This document discusses overhead conductor types used for power transmission and distribution lines. It provides tables that specify the properties of various aluminum conductor steel reinforced (ACSR) overhead conductors including their nominal area, weight, resistance, and current rating. It also shows the appropriate ACSR type to use for different voltage levels from 11kV to 500kV. Additionally, it provides data on Pakistan's transmission and distribution system including the length and number of substations for different voltage levels and the total power transmitted.

Overhead Conductor Types with Specifications
Aluminum conductor steel reinforced (ACSR) is normally used as overhead conductor.
According to [1] [2] types of ACSR are given in the following table 1.1.
TABLE # 1.1 Code Name Nominal Area Approximate Weight Nominal DC resistance at20 o C Current Rating mm 2 kg/km Ohm/Km A Gopher 25 106 1.0930 115 Weasel 30 128 0.9077 129 Ferret 40 172 0.6766 155 Rabbit 50 214 0.5426 178 Horse 70 538 0.3936 225 Dog 100 394 0.2733 271 Wolf 150 726 0.1828 351 Dingo 150 506 0.1815 346 Lynx 175 842 0.1576 384 Caracal 175 587 0.1563 379 Panther 200 974 0.1363 420 Jaguar 200 671 0.1367 411 Zebra 400 1621 0.0674 636
Note: This table is given according to BRITISH SIZES.
Voltage Levels and ACSR Types: According to [3] the selection of ACSR type is dependent on the voltage levels. Different voltage levels are used in transmission and distribution lines. The following table clarifies the selection of ACSR type for different voltage levels.
TABLE # 1.2 Voltage Levels ACSR Type

Note: Moose is ACSR type characterized by BS-215.
Power Transmission: According to [4] , In Pakistan voltage levels are being used are given below. Transmission Voltages: 33/66kv, 132kv, 220kv, 500kv. Distribution Voltages: 11kv. According to [4] the detailed information is given in the table 1.3.
TABLE # 1.3 Voltage Levels Length Of Line No. Of Substations KV Km 500 5077 12 220 7318 27 132 29999 484 66/33 7617 183 Total 49511 706
According to [3] ,the power transmitted for any size of conductor depends on its current carrying capacity and can be calculated from the following formula.
Power in KW = V I Cos Assume power factor Cos =0.8 V=Voltage in KV I=Current in A.
FOR 132KV: P 132kv =1.73*132*420*0.8/1000= 76.8 MW Total 132KV circuits in Pakistan=484 P total =
484*76.8=37180 MW
For 220KV: P 220kv =1.73*220*636*0.8/1000= 193.6 MV Total 220KV circuits in Pakistan=27 P total =27*193.6=5228 MW
For 500KV: P 500kv =1.73*500*720*0.8/1000=498MW Total 500KV circuits =12 P total =12*498= 5978MW
