INTRODUCTION


Field Trips are important in our educational field. Field trips are a vital requirement of
their educational curriculum. It is here where public schools lack funding and effort to have more
access to providing field trips for its students. Teachers who conduct hands-on learning
activities on a weekly basis out-perform their peers by more than 70% of a grade level in math
and 40% of a grade level in science

Field trips give children a welcome break in routine. Kids can look forward to and
prepare for the field trip for several days or weeks. Then, they get to spend the day in a different
learning environment and can complete a lesson on the topic covered after the trip is over.
Learning in assorted ways can appeal to varied learning styles, helping children to succeed
whether they are visual, auditory or kinetic learners.

A field trip or excursion, known as school trip in the UK, New Zealand, Philippines
and school tour in Ireland, is a journey by a group of people to a place away from their normal
environment. The purpose of the trip is usually observation for education, non-
experimental research or to provide students with experiences outside their everyday activities,
such as going camping with teachers and their classmates. The aim of this research is to observe
the subject in its natural state and possibly collect samples.






THE IMPORTANCE OF FIELD TRIPS

Field Trips are important to help bridge the gap between education and hands-on
experience. Just look to private and charter schools as examples, you will see that field trips are a
vital requirement of their educational curriculum. It is here where public schools lack funding
and effort to have more access to providing field trips for its students. Studies published by
RAFT, Resource Area for Teaching, show Teachers who conduct hands-on learning activities
on a weekly basis out-perform their peers by more than 70% of a grade level in math and 40% of
a grade level in science. I believe if we had more field trips, education would be more creative
and effective in getting kids to successfully graduate high school and college. As well as
preparing them to make big differences to communities and life as we know it. Field trips are
crucial for every student to acquire increased knowledge, culture and hands-on experience.
Hands-on experience produce questions and answers that help shape a childs future.

Enhance the Curriculum

Field trips give the teacher an excellent opportunity to show students that different
academic subjects can be studied simultaneously and that learning does not have to be an
isolated experience. An example of this would be a trip to a famous home or building to study
the math and writing that is used in architecture. Social studies can be incorporated by listening
to the tour guide give an oral history of the building.

Overview

Field trips give students educational experiences away from their regular school
environment. Popular field trip sites include zoos, nature centers, community agencies such as
fire stations and hospitals, government agencies, local businesses and science museums. Not
only do field trips provide alternative educational opportunities for children, they can also benefit
the community if they include some type of community service.


HANDS-ON LEARNING

Students visiting different educational facilities learn in a more hands-on and interactive
manner than they do in school. Science museums, for example, often have displays that children
can touch to help them understand the material that is being covered. Zoos, nature centers and
botanical gardens show kids animal and plant life up close, and often have areas where kids can
touch displays, such as petting zoos and interactive computer programs.


VARIETIES OF FIELD TRIPS

NEW EXPERIENCES



Children travel on a ferry to the city.


Children learn about different professions, ideas and opportunities when they travel
outside their own neighborhoods. A field trip can awaken the desire in a child to try new things
and pursue previously unconsidered dreams. Field trips can introduce children to job
opportunities and can spark new interests and passions.
