defeat this strong demon in war. /e built three towns of three different metals. Towns were
built by gold, silver and iron. These towns were non.destroyable and known as Tripur. #fter
ruling these towns by him and his two brothers he was known as Tripurasur. /e started $rusade
against gods and easily own battle against god4s king !ndra. /e looted angles, power and
treasure of god and ruled ;den. Being helpless and powerless !ndra and other gods went to beg
help from Bramha. 1ord Bramha gave advi$e to them that he $ould not beat Tripurasur and went
to beg help from 1ord ishnu. 1ord ishnu also told them that he also $annot beat Tripurasur
and suggested them to beg help from all gods of 1ord Shiva. #ll gods in$luding Bramha + ishnu
went to beg help from 1ord Shiva to destroy Tripurasur and his non.destroyable towns.
Bramha, ishnu and all gods started to state their grief to lord Shiva and prayed to ruin
Tripurasur and his towns. Shiva as always ready to help his devotees and revealed to all gods
that he will ruin Tripurasur. /e ordered to build a spe$ial $hariot to exe$uted demon Tripurasur.
"hariot was made of earth: wheel was made of sun and moon, 1ord ishnu himself be$ame
arrow of Shiva4s ar$h and the lord Bramha drove $hariot.
#fter the $ompletion of the $hariot 1ord Shiva lead with Bramha, ishnu, !ndra and all gods to
battle and destroy Tripur. /e rea$hed the pla$e where he $an destroy Tripur by one arrow. #t
that time Shiva took Rudra &anger' rup &pose'. 3hen he was ready to burst the arrow all gods
be$ame so happy and start to pray. 1ord Shiva exe$ute arrow and ruin Tripur and demolish all
devil.
#fter the demolition of Tripur lord Shiva, Bramha, ishnu, !ndra and other gods went to
/imalayas to get rest. 1ord Shiva $losed his eyes and meditated for some time. 3hen he opened
his lotus shaped eyes tears fell from them on the earth. Those tears de$ent over Sitsail hill.
Sometime after those tears be$ame Rudraksha trees. The fruits that grow on this tree are

#$$ording to another religious text Shiva Mahapuran, %arvati the divine $onsort of 1ord Shiva

teardrops fell to the ground and from these tears, the Rudraksha tree $ame into existen$e. The

#rtifi$ial Rudraksha is often made from the wild berry seeds or nuts. But these berries $annot
be made as real as the ones that are in the genuine ones and therefore easily be dete$ted by an

Rare Rudraksha beads like 2ne Mukhi are sometimes made by tampering with higher Mukhi
beads. This Rudraksha will also sink.

myth. # variety of Rudraksha $alled ? mukhi half moon is thus sold in its pla$e whi$h is genuine
and belongs to a family tree of Rudraksha. This bead is found easily and pri$e is also not high.
/owever there are suppliers who sell this half moon variety also at exorbitant pri$es taking
advantage of the rarity of round ? Mukhi Rudraksha. Round ? Mukhi Rudraksha however is the
most highly sold bead and is faked in many forms by uns$rupulous suppliers. Many of these
beads are made from berries and betel nuts and #re$a nuts. Some have a stem implanted in
them artifi$ially to give a real look. #lso some suppliers sell fake ? Mukhis whi$h have Serpent,
Trishul, 1ingam et$ $arved on them. # real Rudraksha does not have these markings. Rudraksha
having B,C,A,E and > fa$es are found abundantly and hen$e their pri$es are not high. -ake
Rudraksha are made by $arving extra lines in these lower Mukhi beads to obtain the rare and
higher pri$ed higher Mukhi beads.
#lso some s$rupulous people fake ,auri Shankar Rudraksha by gluing together two Rudraksha
beads. But these $an be again dete$ted by little experien$e and awareness. %lease note that the
idea of informing about -ake Rudraksha is not to s$are away people, but to make them aware.
,enuine Rudraksha sold are also available in plenty naturally. But it is the greed of suppliers to
make more money that for$es them to deal in fake beads. #lso in the $ase of rare Rudraksha
beads of higher Mukhis fakes are sold by su$h suppliers to satisfy the in$reasing demand of
these beads.
!t is not very diffi$ult to re$ogni8e a real Rudraksha. 2n a$$ount of its in$reasing importan$e
and pri$e, it is made artifi$ially also and these artifi$ial Rudrakshas are also being sold in
market. #rtifi$ial Rudraksha used to be made long ago by using wild berry seeds or nuts or
wood. But now this is an outdated te$hni9ue and the (epal suppliers of today are making these
by $arving out extra lines in a lower Mukhi bead to get a higher Mukhi bead, or hiding extra
lines to obtain a rare lower Mukhi bead and even by gluing together parts of Rudraksha beads to
obtain another Rudraksha. Thus these fake Rudraksha look externally like real Rudraksha and
thus have to be examined more $arefully. But in these artifi$ial Rudraksha, no fa$et $an be
made as real as the ones that are in the genuine ones and $an easily be dete$ted by an
experien$ed eye ./ere the fa$et &Mukh' means deep lining from the upper part to the lower part
of Rudraksha. 1ooking at these deep linings.fa$ets one $an re$ogni8e real Rudraksha. 2ne
needs to use magnifying glass for this purpose and examine for artifi$ially $arved lines &whi$h
are generally very sharp' and glued surfa$es on the bead.
There are many other $riteria written to re$ogni8e Rudraksha, su$h as the sinking and floating
of Rudraksha in the water and revolving between two $oins. But it is not a $orre$t $riterion.
;ven an unripe but genuine Rudraksha may float in the water, and a non genuine ones made out
of wood impregnated with lead or by tampering a real Rudraksha may sink. Therefore, we
should not bother about these suspi$ions and false notions. The Rudraksha should be brought
from a genuine supplier who is a$$ountable to the people. Buying Rudraksha is like buying ,ems
in whi$h buyers buy from a trusted supplier only and thus buyers needs to $onsult other
previous buyers for the genuine suppliers and their experien$e of dealing with them, before
taking a de$ision to pur$hase these beads.
#nother thing to be noted is that Rudraksha being a natural produ$t, it is available in many
9ualities from low, medium, high to $olle$tor. # buyer should avoid low 9uality beads whi$h are
light weight, have broken surfa$es and are unshapely and have extremely dry surfa$e. These
beads rarely provide any effe$t. 2ne should go for Rudraksha whi$h are heavy, bright, lustrous,
shapely and emit a positive vibration.
Many long time suppliers in (epal and !ndia deal in $ounterfeit Beads as part of their normal

Bead so there $an be no valid test for #uthenti$ity based on sinking or floating. !f the authenti$

is totally dry. But still it is an authenti$ Bead. !f you leave the Bead in the water for a $ouple of
days it will take on enough water and sink !f the Bead is new from this season then the Beads
are normally not dry due to their freshness and there is moisture trapped in the Bead. 3hen
pla$ed in glass of water the Bead will find its buoyan$y level somewhere from the bottom of the
glass of water to the top depending on the amount of moisture it is $arrying. 3e have found
that any and all authenti$ Beads will either sink or float depending on whether it is really dry or
still has moisture from being a freshly harvested Rudraksha Bead.
"ounterfeit round ? Mukhi are sold in both !ndia and !ndonesia. Small pie$es of Rudraksha are
glued on four of the lines of a five Mukhi bead thus leaving only one deep line. !t $an be
