CHAPTER-1
GENERAL INFORMATION

9

History of Ceramic Tiles
It is believed that the first clay tiles were produced seven to eight thousand years ago in
the area now known as the Holy Land. Many sources independently verify that the actual
known history of Tiles (and the known usage of wall and floor tile coverings) can be
traced back as far as the fourth millennium BC (4000 BC) to Egypt.

In those days, in Egypt, tiles were used to decorate various houses. Clay bricks were
dried beneath the sun or baked, and the first glazes were blue in colour and were made
from copper, very exquisite!

During that period ceramics were also known to be found in Mesopotamia. These
ceramics bore decorations, which were white and blue striped and later possessed more
varied patterns and colours. Later on, in China too, the Great Center of Ceramic Art, a
fine, white stoneware with the earliest Chinese glaze was produced during the Shang-Yin
dynasty (1523-1028 BC).

The usage and the art of making and decorating ceramic tiles had spread and by 900
A.D., decorative tiles had become widely used in Persia, Syria, Turkey and across North
Africa. As transport and communication developed, tile usage and its penetration in other
territories increased. Wars and territory take-overs caused this art to spread even faster.
The Romans introduced tile making in Western Europe as they occupied territories. The
Low Countries of Northern Europe somehow acquired the technology from Persia, while
the Moors brought African tiles with them when they invaded Iberia (Spain). It was
aboard the ships of Spanish conquistadors that decorative clay tiles found their way to the
New World, where they were used primarily to decorate the Churches of newly built
missions.

By the end of the 12th century, use and manufacture of Ceramic Tiles had spread across
Italy and Spain and into the rest of Europe. Till that time they were mainly used to
decorate the floors of Cathedrals and Churches. The skill had eventually vanished from

10

Europe in the 16th century following the reformation. But the decorative wall tile art had
survived in Turkey and the Middle East and the Delft tiles art survived in Holland. A
form of tile making had also evolved among the natives of North and South America at
some point. The first decorative tiles to appear in Colonial North America were imported
from Northern Europe, mainly England the Brits having hijacked the technology from the
Dutch. The tiles were too expensive for utilitarian purposes in the Colonies and were
found almost exclusively in the homes of the wealthy.

Through the centuries, tile decoration was improved upon, as were methods of tile
manufacture. For example, during the Islamic period, all methods of tile decoration were
brought to perfection in Persia. Throughout the known world, in various countries and
cities, Ceramic tile production and decoration reached great heights. The tile mosaics of
Spain and Portugal, the floor tiles of Renaissance Italy, the faiences of Antwerp, the
development of tile iconography in the Netherlands, and the Ceramic tiles of Germany
are all prominent landmarks in the history of Ceramic tile.

In the early days, the tiles were hand-made, each tile was hand-formed and hand-painted,
thus each was a work of art in its own right. Ceramic tile was used almost everywhere on
walls, floors, ceilings, fireplaces, in murals, and as an exterior cladding on buildings.

Today Ceramic tile throughout the world is not hand-made or hand-painted for the most
part. Automated manufacturing techniques are used and the human hand does not enter
into the picture until it is time to install the tile. They are used in an almost infinite
number of ways and you dont have to consider yourself wealthy to own them. In
commercial buildings, where both beauty and durability are considerations, ceramic tiles
will be found, particularly in lobby areas and restrooms.

11

Ceramic Tiles Industry in India
Ceramic Tiles today have become an integral part of home improvement. It can make a
huge difference to the way your interiors and outdoors look and express. The Indian tile
industry, despite an overall slowdown of the economy continues to grow at a healthy
15% per annum. Investments in the last 5 years have aggregated over Rs. 5000 crores.
The overall size of the Indian ceramic tile industry is approximately Rs 18,000 crore
(FY12). The production during 2011-12 stood at approx. 600 million square meters.

The Indian tile industry is divided into organized and unorganized sector. The organized
sector comprises of approximately 14 players. The current size of the organized sector is
about Rs 7,200 Crores. The unorganized sector accounts for nearly 60% of the total
industry bearing testimony of the growth potential of this sector.

India ranks in the top 3 list of countries in terms of tile production in the world. With
proper planning and better quality control our exports (presently insignificant)
contribution can significantly increase.

Apart from their decorative looks, Ceramic Tiles are primarily hygiene products and that
is how our broad spectrum of consumers view the product. This is fairly evident from its
varied usage from bathrooms and kitchens in average Indian households to medical
centers, labs, milk booths, schools, public conveniences, shopping malls and numerous
other centers; which dot our day to day life. A ceramic tile is basically a "utility product"
and that remains our promotional slogan. Popular housing projects are increasingly
switching over to Ceramic Tiles moving away from the traditional use mosaic and even
granite or marble, owing to several factors viz. ease in laying ability, versatility, low price
and hygiene.
Nevertheless, this decorative aspect of a Ceramic Tiles has forever been in the forefront.
Heavy churning out of bolder and colorful designs by the industry are testament to the
fact that most households regard a ceramic tile as an "adornment" for an otherwise "drab
look" of their age-old floorings or an unfurnished wall Overall picture of the Industry

12

A ceramic tile as a product segment has grown to a sizeable chunk today at
approximately 680 Millions Square meters production per annum. However, the potential
seems to be great, particularly as the housing sector, retail, IT & BPO sectors have been
witnessing an unprecedented boom in recent times.

The key drivers for the ceramic tiles in India are the boom in housing sector coupled by
government policies fuelling strong growth in housing sector. The retail boom in the
Indian economy has also influenced the demand for higher end products. Overall the
bullish growth estimates in the Indian economy has significantly influenced the growth of
the Indian Ceramic tile industry.

The main product segments are the Wall tile, Floor tile, Vitrified tile and Industrial tile
segments. The market shares (in value terms) are 20%, 23% 50%, and 7% respectively
for Wall, Floor, Vitrified, and Industrial tiles. The tiles are available in a wide variety of
designs, textures and surface effects. They cater to tastes as varied from rustics to
contemporary marble designs in super glossy mirror finishes.

Both, traditional methods of manufacturing (tunnel) and the latest single fast firing
methods are deployed in manufacturing. Some of the latest trends in manufacturing
methods can be seen in India.

The industry also enjoys the unique distinction of being highly indigenous with an
abundance of raw materials, technical skills, infrastructural facilities despite being fairly
capital intensive. A total of over 5,50,000 people are employed in the sector. Out of this,
50,000 people are directly employed and 5,00,000 are indirectly associated. The potential
is huge considering the per capita consumption of ceramic tiles in India.

Roof tiles

Roof tiles are designed mainly to keep out rain, and are traditionally made from locally
available materials such as clay or slate. Modern materials such as concrete and plastic
are also used and some clay tiles have a waterproof glaze. A large number of shapes (or
"profiles") of roof tiles have evolved. These include:
Flat tiles - the simplest type, which are laid in regular overlapping rows. An
example of this is the clay-made "beaver-tail" tile (German Biberschwanz),
common in Southern Germany. Flat roof tiles are usually made of clay but also
may be made of stone, wood, plastic, concrete, or solar cells.
Imbrex and tegula, an ancient Roman pattern of curved and flat tiles that make
rain channels on a roof.
Roman tiles - flat in the middle, with a concave curve at one end at a convex
curve at the other, to allow interlocking.
Pantiles - with an S-shaped profile, allowing adjacent tiles to interlock. These
result in a ridged pattern resembling a ploughed field. An example of this is the
"double Roman" tile, dating from the late 19th century in England and USA.
Mission or barrel tiles are semi-cylindrical tiles laid in alternating columns of
convex and concave tiles. Originally they were made by forming clay around a
curved surface, often a log or the maker's thigh. Today barrel tiles are mass-
produced from clay, metal, concrete or plastic.

15

Interlocking roof tiles are similar to pantile with side and top locking to improve
protection from water and wind.
Antefixes: vertical blocks which terminate the covering tiles of a tiled roof.
Roof tiles are 'hung' from the framework of a roof by fixing them with nails. The tiles are
usually hung in parallel rows, with each row overlapping the row below it to exclude
rainwater and to cover the nails that hold the row below. There are also roof tiles for
special positions, particularly where the planes of the several pitches meet. They include
ridge, hip and valley tiles. These can either be bedded and pointed in cement mortar or
mechanically fixed.
Similarly to roof tiling, tiling has been used to provide a protective weather envelope to
the sides of timber frame buildings. These are hung on laths nailed to wall timbers, with
tiles specially moulded to cover corners and jambs. Often these tiles are shaped at the
exposed end to give a decorative effect. Another form of this is the so-called
mathematical tile, which was hung on laths, nailed and then grouted. This form of tiling
gives an imitation of brickwork and was developed to give the appearance of brick, but
avoided the Brick Taxes of the 18th century.

History

16

Roman roof tile fragment (78mm wide by 97mm high) found in York, UK, with the
impression of a kitten's paw.
Fired roof tiles are found as early as the 3rd millennium BC in the Early Helladic House
of the tiles in Lerna, Greece.

Debris found at the site contained thousands of terracotta
tiles having fallen from the roof.
[]
In the Mycenaean period, roofs tiles are documented for
Gla and Midea.
The earliest finds of roof tiles in archaic Greece are documented from a very restricted
area around Corinth (Greece), where fired tiles began to replace thatched roofs at two
temples of Apollo and Poseidon between 700-650 BC.Spreading rapidly, roof tiles were
within fifty years in evidence for a large number of sites around the Eastern
Mediterranean, including Mainland Greece, Western Asia Minor, Southern and Central
Italy. Early roof tiles showed an S-shape, with the pan and cover tile forming one piece.
They were rather bulky affairs, weighing around 30 kg apiece
.
Being more expensive and
labour-intensive to produce than thatch, their introduction has been explained by their
greatly enhanced fire resistance which gave desired protection to the costly temples.
The spread of the roof tile technique has to be viewed in connection with the
simultaneous rise of monumental architecture in ancient Greece. Only the newly-
appearing stone walls, which were replacing the earlier mudbrick and wood walls, were
strong enough to support the weight of a tiled roof. As a side-effect, it has been assumed
that the new stone and tile construction also ushered in the end of 'Chinese roof'
(Knickdach) construction in Greek architecture, as they made the need for an extended
roof as rain protection for the mudbrick walls obsolete.
Production of dutch roof tiles started in the 14th century when city rulers required the use
of fireproof materials. At the time most houses were made of wood and had thatch
roofing, which would often cause fires to quickly spread. To satisfy demand, many small
roof tile makers began to produce roof tiles by hand. Many of these small factories were
built near rivers where there was a ready source of clay and cheap transport.

17

Digital tile

Printing techniques and digital manipulation of art and photography are used in what is
known as "custom tile printing". Dye sublimation printers, inkjet printers and ceramic
inks and toners permit printing on a variety of tile types yielding photographic-quality
reproduction. Using digital image capture via scanning or digital cameras, bitmap/raster
images can be prepared in Photoshop and other photo editing software programs.
Specialized custom-tile printing techniques permit transfer under heat and pressure or the
use of high temperature kilns to fuse the picture to the tile substrate. This has become an
increasingly popular method of producing custom tile murals for kitchens, showers, and
commercial decoration in restaurants, hotels, and corporate lobbies

18

Government support in Ceramic Industry
With the discovery of huge deposits of China clay in Kutch district, the state government
is hoping to place the ceramic industry in the state on the world map. The government
has set an ambitious target to overtake Chinese exports by the end of 2005

According to preliminary indications, China clay deposits are estimated at over 200
million tones. However, Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC) is
conducting a survey in Kutch to estimate the amount of availability of the Mineral in the
region.

The government has identified four clusters in Kutch, Rajkot, Morbi, and Mehsana for
the development of the ceramic industry in the state. The clusters are expected to be
developed and be operational by the end of 2006.
The foreign Direct Investment (FDI) limit in the real estate and property sector, and the
governments thrust on the housing sector through initiatives like the Bharat Nirman and
the National Urban Renewal Mission, under which the government aims to focus on 66
selected cities, are set to accelerate the growth of ceramic industry.

The Duty Entitlement Pass Book (DEPB) scheme, under which companies get a 14 % tax
concession in exports, is only available to glaze units.

Providing some relief to the industry, the government of Gujarat had cut sales tax on the
products from 15% to 8% in the last to last budget.

The government has rationalized the excise duty structure to a large extent from roughly
55% few years ago to current 16%.

In a major breakthrough that is expected to have a far reaching impact on the ceramic
industry, Ahmadabad-based Central Glass & Ceramic Research Institute (CGCRI) has
developed a new technology, which is claimed to generate wealth from waste material.

19

This technology converts hard, vitrified and dense fired ceramic scraps into breakable
and brittle material so that they can be easily ground into fine powder and then recycled
as raw material for the ceramic industry. This uses the wastage to create wealth and it
also protects environment from scraps of ceramics.

The ailing ceramic industry, known world-wide for the quality ceramics tiles it produced,
will get gas within 4 months as the state energy and petrochemicals department has
decided to expedite the work on laying pipeline, as part of the proposed state-wide gas
grid, up to Morbi.

The government hopes that its enterprise, Gujarat State Petronet Ltd (GSPL), which is
responsible for the gas grid project. By doing research at Ceramic Research Institute in
Calcutta, government has suggested to the manufacturers that energy cost in ceramic
manufacturing, which is about 25% of total cost, can saves by microprocessor based
control system and variable speed drivers. By this way companies can save 15% of
manufacturing cost.

Government has established Indian Council of Ceramic Tiles and Sanitary ware
(ICCTAS). The goal of this council is To promote sales of products of ceramic tiles and
porcelain articles by India in domestic and overseas markets.
Its activities are, to arrange Trade exhibitions, events, seminars and representation of
Indian ceramic manufacturing overseas.

Under the aegis of government Chemical and Allied Products Exports Promotion Council
(CAPEXIL) is actively supporting Indian ceramic companies. Major activity of this
council is to transfer trade inquiries from overseas to Indian manufacturers.

TYPE OF PRODUCT
AVLON is aesthetically and functionally for more supine or to Italian marble and
comes in wilds variety of natural Italian marble designs and colour.
PRODUCTION PLANNING & QUALITY CONTROL

Production planning & control is a managerial function which plans, directs & controls a
material flow system is a plant to achieve the targets set by marketing with utmost
economy & efficiency.
AVLON is a fully homogenous tile AVLON is an glazed product it is made of single
compact body mass and is fully tiles (water absorption near zero) this makes it stronger
and move durable the never zero water absorption resulting from a high degree of
compaction impacts move strength and reduces the moisture & thermal expansion thus
facilitating joint free applications.
The superiors technical properties of deco granite ensure that its wear resistance and
straiten hardness are significantly higher than ordinary calamite floor tiles or natural
marbles depending on usage of the polished surface that life of deco granite well be much
more than that at the best Italian marble or granite.
The designs on the tile are painted with what are know as soluble salts or penetrating
pigments as the name suggest these salts punctuate to a 2-3 mm below the surface of the
tiles thus the design is present up to 25% of the thickness of the tiles being such a hand
material it is virtually impossible to remove this amine of material to make the design
disappear. All deco granite tiles our fully homogenous vitrified and they have uniform
properties all though its body which grantees the quality of the late.
It can be fixed on the existing floor but by employing synthetic adhesives deco granite is
a pre sized product with very low moisture and thermal expansion it may be used for a
joint tree application.

PRODUCTION PROCESS

1. Weighing of raw material: - fiats at all raw materials are weighted on the scale
and according to composition of body.
2. Mixing in ball mill: - By conveyor belt systems this 30 tons raw materials are
carried to ball bill. Ball mill are of 30 tan capacity all raw materials are kept in
ball mill and grinding 8 hours for mixing there are 45 tans various pebbles of
30,40&50 mm size in the ball mill moreover 15 tans wailed is addle inside the
ball mill felled mixing at 8 hours there are prepared homogenous slurry that are
called slurry.
3. Aging in slurry tank :- after unloading the slip from ball mill, slurry passes
trough vibratory that removes big pedicels from the slurry & balance slurry are
keeping in aging tank.
4. Spray Drying: - In this department slurry is spayed by pumps in the spray diaper
though time nozzles where slurry sprayed particle gets heats form HAG that
removes water.
5. Aging of Powder: - This powder may have un-even moisture to get uniform
mixture minimum 36 hours of storage of powder in required in big silo we have
14 tone of storage silo for powder having capacity of 80 tans each.

6. Pressing: - This powder is sent to press through converter belt by passing
vibrator the press capacity is 4200 tons pressing deco to 6% moisture & heavy
pressing tiles are manufactured from the powder.

7. Drying: - Then tiles is sending for dying 150 meter long horizontal dour
having 180 c to 210 c temperature to remove moisture from the green tiles that
gives day strength to the tiles.
8. Printing: - After drying the tiles now tiles are ready for printing design
screen & design paste (i.e. made from soluble salt) are used for printing the tiles

the panic inside the tiles body.
9. Drying: - Additionally water from the tiles is removed by arrivers in this
escheatment it is 25 meters long and having 200 c temperature.

10. Heating: - In this section tiles is going inside the Kilan where 1200 c
temperature make the tile tough hard and having more strength this tile is now
called unpolished tiles.

11. Polishing: - an unpolished tile is passed through different machines of polishing
line as furrows calibrating machine polishing machine sizing (squaring &
chamfering machine).

12. Sorting & Packing: - Then tiles are stored according to 1

LITERATURE REVIEW

50

3.1 Review of literature
Grossman (2000; 1972) has developed inter-temporal utility model, which is based on the
household production framework. The model, for the first time introduced the concept
that consumers do not demand medical care per se, but it is a derived demand generated
through the demand for health. Individual demands health for two purposes: consumption
and investment purposes. Individual can maximize his utility by generating good health
and better health enhances utility or happiness. Health is desired as an investment good
since good health enhances earning capacity. Health, thus, is both a consumption and
investment good.

Scott et al. (1996) conducted a research to explore the associations between outcome
variables and the consumer's characteristics using three set of binary choice: decision to
follow up; to prescribe; and to perform or to order a diagnostic test utilizing national
health survey data 1989/90 of Australia. Yip et al. (1998) estimated the utilization of
health care using multinomial logit model to estimate the factors that influenced
consumers choice of medical provider in the three tired health care system in rural china.
Gertler and van der Gaag (1990) and Mwabu et al. (1993), a few of them, have
investigated impact of user fee in choice of health care services using nested logit and
multinomial logit models.
Cameron et al. (1988) have developed a count data model to analyze the choices of
insurance plans and health care providers using household survey data of Australia. Dow
(1995) has compared the specification of the models: parsimonious non-linear, linear and
flexible using Cote dIvoire health care data and found that results are sensitive to choices
of model specification and flexible model was considered more appropriate to get robust
estimation of health care demand. Similarly, Bolduc et al. (1996) has estimated demand
for health care using three different models: multinomial logit, independent multinomial
probit and multinomial probit using data from rural villages of Africa. They have found
similar result as suggested by Dow (1995) about the impact of model specification on
results and questioned previous results of using multinomial logit specifications. Kenkel

51

(1990) has applied ordered logit model in categorical measures of health related
information of US national health interview survey to estimate the effect of
socioeconomic variables to health information and demand for health care. Recently,
Borah (2006) has applied a very sophisticated and more powerful model, mixed logit
model, on health care data collected in India.

59

What is the Demand Analysis

Demand is the amount of goods that consumers or buyers are willing and capable to buy
at a specific price in a specific time period al else remaining the same.
Demand is an economic principle that describes the willingness and desire of consumers
to purchase specific goods or services at a specific ceteris paribus.

60

Law of Demand:
The Law of Demand describes the inverse relationship of price and the quantity
demanded, all else remaining constant. If the price is high, the quantity demanded
decreases and if the price goes down, the quantity demanded will increase.
Substitution Effect:
In substitution effects, when the price of a good or product decreases, the relative price
of that good makes buyer more eager to buy that good or product.
When the price of a good increases, the relative price of that good makes the buyer less
eager to buy that good or product. The price of one product is contrasted with the prices
of other products, thus causing the substitution effect. Consumers will substitute towards
the cheap or less expensive product.
Income Effect:
Income can be measured in terms of the services and goods that one can purchase. If the
price of goods and services decreases and nominal income remains constant, real income
increases. In this way, when one can buy goods at the cheapest rate, then ones income
goes furthest and thus increases in real terms.
Change in Consumer Income:
Changes in consumer income causes demand to fluctuate on par to the change in ones
income. If income increases, demand for normal goods will increase. If income
decreases, demand for normal goods will decrease. Contrarily, if income increases,
demand for inferior goods decreases and if the income decreases, the demand for inferior
goods will increase.
Change in Related Goods Price:
Price change in one good can change the demand of other related goods. For example, if
the price of one good is increased, more consumers will buy another relative good and if
the price of the first good decreases, more consumers will buy it.

61

Change in Consumer Expectations:
Any change in consumer expectations affects demand. If a consumer expects his or her
income to rise in the future, the existing demand will increase and if the consumer
expects his or her income to reduce in the future, the existing demand will decrease
accordingly.
What Is Market Demand Analysis
Companies use market demand analysis to understand how much consumer demand
exists for a product or service. This analysis helps management determine if they can
successfully enter a market and generate enough profits to advance their business
operations. While several methods of demand analysis may be used, they usually contain
a review of the basic components of an economic market which are:
1. Market identification
2. Business cycle
3. product niche
4. growth potential
5. competition
Market Identification
The first step of market analysis is to define and identify the specific market to target
with new products or services. Companies will use market surveys or consumer feedback
to determine their satisfaction with current products and services. Comments indicating
dissatisfaction will lead businesses to develop new products or services to meet this
consumer demand. While companies will usually identify markets close to their current
product line, new industries may be tested for business expansion possibilities.
Business Cycle
Once a potential market is identified, companies will assess what stage of the business
cycle the market is in. Three stages exist in the business cycle: emerging, plateau and
declining. Markets in the emerging stage indicate higher consumer demand and low

62

supply of current products or services. The plateau stage is the break-even level of the
market, where the supply of goods meets current market demand. Declining stages
indicate lagging consumer demand for the goods or services supplied by businesses.
Product Niche
Once markets and business cycles are reviewed, companies will develop a product that
meets a specific niche in the market. Products must be differentiated from others in the
market so they meet a specific need of consumer demand, creating higher demand for
their product or service. Many companies will conduct tests in sample markets to
determine which of their potential product styles is most preferred by consumers.
Companies will also develop their goods so that competitors cannot easily duplicate their
product.
Growth Potential
While every market has an initial level of consumer demand, specialized products or
goods can create a sense of usefulness, which will increase demand. Examples of
specialized products are iPods or iPhones, which entered the personal electronics market
and increased demand through their perceived usefulness by consumers. This type of
demand quickly increases the demand for current markets, allowing companies to
increase profits through new consumer demand.
Competition
An important factor of market analysis is determining the number of competitors and
their current market share. Markets in the emerging stage of the business cycle tend to
have fewer competitors, meaning a higher profit margin may be earned by companies.
Once a market becomes saturated with competing companies and products, fewer profits
are achieved and companies will begin to lose money. As markets enter the declining
business cycle, companies will conduct a new market analysis to find more profitable
markets.

63

Sales Promotion
Sales promotion can be described as any action or decision that will promote or help to
promote sales. Sales promotion means to increase the sales. It is an incentive given to
the customer as well as dealers to increase the sales. It attracts new customers and also
encourage the existing customers to buy more.
For sales promotion, AVLON CERAMIC PVT. LTD. do exhibition at international level
and also do demonstration of their goods.
EXPORTS
Company exports its productions directly in seven cities like Bombay, Bangalore, Pune,
Dubai and Punjab. They export about 70% of total out put.
TRANSPORTATION
A chief function or physical distribution is to take goods to the place where they are to
be consumed.

70

Data Collection

All marketing researchers can two type source of data for research.

2. External data

Internal data is companys own records, register, documents, etc. The
internal data source helpful for me while preparing my report.

External data those data which are collected from market. It is avaible by
contacting the retailers by meeting them personally.

Second type of data collection

1. Secondary data
2. Primary data
Secondary data

There are numerous source a of secondary data. Each year quantity of
secondary source a material expands of a tremendous rate. Secondary data
is ready to use. It is much cheaper to use.

Published Survey of Markets.
General Library Research.
Government Publications and Reports.

71

All Advertising Media (Newspapers, magazines etc.)
Trade Associations.
Universities.
Internal Sources.
Primary data

It is a vital role for any research. It is act base for preparation of any
project.

Ex. Personal observation
Personal survey
Panel research
Experiment research
Behavioral research

In my project work I adopt is survey method through questionnaire. A
questionnaire was drafted and further it was analyzed to prepare the
project.

72

Research instrument

Questionnaire is a device of marketing research to collect information. It is
a technique of communication with the respondent. It may be simply
defined as formal list of questions designed to gather information from
respondent on a given topic.

Open-ended question
Dichotomous question
Multiple Choice question

An open ended question has no fix alternates to which the answers must
conform. The responds answers in his own words and at length he choice.

Dichotomous question is one where the respondent select a pre designed
categories of responses coming closer to his/him own opinion.

Multiple questions is one which provide several objectives to answer for
it. It is longer and complex. I use multiple choices dichotomous.

73

Nature of the project

The project is based with involvement of field work. Main of project was
to know the consumers perspective and satisfaction & analyze the demand
of the product .

74

Scope of project

Basically the scope of project is bifurcated in two types:-
Geographical scope
Time scope
In geographical scope all district
In time scope for project is Very important to the student, competitors and the ceramic
members. This scope is very wide.

75

Sampling

Sampling is a part of the universe or population. Population is a collection
all elements defined over space and time, which are relevant to scope of a
problem.

Sampling refers to study of the part of universe instead of the whole of it,
to draw conclusion for entire universe. It is a tool or a technique to study
the feature of the whole universe.

A sample as name suggested is smaller reprehensive of larger body. in
other words a section of population selected from latter in such a way that
they represent universe a sample. A single member of population is
element.

There are six steps, which create a sample plan for research purpose.

76

Define the population:

It is an aggregate of all the elements defined prior to selection of sample. Here,
population means,

Element
Sampling
Extent
Time
Identify the sampling frame:

This the second stage for finding out sampling decision. Identifying sample
frame, which could be telephone directory, a map of all sampling units. It may be
pointed out that if the frames incomplete or defective, sampling will not be able
to solve matters.

Specify the sampling unit

The sampling unit is basic congaing the element of the targets population. The
sampling unit may different from the element.
Specify the sampling method

It indicates how sample units are selected. One of the most important decision in
this regard,

77

Probability
Non-probability
Sampling Population:
Determine the sample size :

In this determine the sample size is 100.
Specify the sampling plan:

This means that one should indicate how decision mode so far are to be
implemented.
Select the sample:

These final steps in sampling. A good deal of office and fled work is involved in
actual selection of sample elements. The interviewer faces most of the problems
in these stages, which contain sample respondents. I select 100 sample .

LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

1. Conclusion was derived by people as respondents.
2. Sample size is only 100, which may not represent the overall population.
3. Only 80 respondents are not enough to show the exact picture of the whole market
share.
4. Sampling technique used is random stratified convenient sampling; it may result
in personal bias.
5. A methodology relying on standardization forces the researcher to de minimally
appropriate for all respondents, possibly missing what is most appropriate to
many respondents.
6. Surveys are inflexible in that they require the initial study design (the tool and
administration of the tool) to remain unchanged throughout the data collection.

SUGGESTION
After visiting BLUE ART GRANITO PVT LTD. I have some suggestions to give them
which are as follows:

A firm has to increase the efficient worker, so production done more and
in rewards sakes increase.

A firm has to care about his machinery. They should checkout their
machinery after 4 months or 6 months. So production process becomes
fast.

They should have experts to solve the problems when they are in jeopardy.

93

CONCLUSION
BLUE ART GRANITO PVT LTD. is a very reputed company achieving success
in the path of ceramic world.

With wide range of products and other machineries, BLUE ART GRANITO PVT
LTD. has a good monopolistic position having effective management. The all
over performance of administrators, executives and workers is good.

Seeing the present situation, we can conclude that it has got a bright and

They have to make their cost attractive to the consumer.

They should improve their transport facilities.
