INTRODUCTION
The aim of the project is to learn what a mission
statement is and how it is useful to people when they
are planning their lifes goals as well being a good way to
tell people/describe to people more about yourself.
Another aim of this project is to make your own
mission statement, it is a nice way to see what
you are aiming for in life. I planned my mission
statement by first reading the definition and
examples. I then proceeded to draw up a mind map
(describing my goals and interests) and then finally
I made my own mission statement.
ANALYSE THE INTERVIEW RESPONSES
I learnt from the mission statement that I
obtained, that the persons main goal (throughout
all the questions) was to contribute and uplift the
community in a positive healthy way. This tells me
that the impact and influence this person has on
the community is huge. This person has to work
with the community everyday as part of her job
and she has to give healthy advice and support in
order to make a positive contribution to society.
Therefor this persons role in the community is
very important as she influences a great deal of
people by her behaviour (as a dietition) as well as
by her teachings.
DEVELOP YOUR OWN MISSION STATEMENT
My main goal/life purpose is to have a successful
career as a film-maker whose main devotion is to
uplift Africa. I plan to study in America (at UC
Berkeley) in 2015. There I would like to obtain a
degree in Film-making so that I can become a
director. Once I have reached this goal I would like
to start giving back to my country (and Africa) by
contributing/helping to uplift the continent as much
as I can. I will do this by making documentaries,
focusing people on the most urgent situations at
hand. My values are creativity and honesty. I hope
that by achieving these goals I can inspire others
(especially those who do not think that they can,
or are able to) to want to aim high as well. By
doing this I am already working in some way, to
positively uplift this society. I really want to
change the way Africa is viewed from the rest of
the world. I want to help in building a continent
that is healthy, prosperous and full of potential.
COMPARE AND CONTRAST YOUR MISSION
STATEMENT
I think the two statements are very similar in the
main goals. Both statements involve working in the
community/society, in uplifting it in a positive way.
Both involve trying to help others as well as giving
back to society in some way or form. Another
similarity is the way the goals are planned to be
achieved. Both statements involve going to a
university to get a /obtain a degree, so that the
person can work towards their end goals. Another
similarity is that both statements involve trying to
teach people to change the ways (where in their
opinions of themselves or physically)
The statements are different in the career choices
that are dealt with. The first statement involves
teaching and supporting people from the community
to make healthy food choices in order to life a
healthy life while the second statements aim is to
through the persons career, change the way people
view Africa as well as to present more
opportunities to people in Africa. They both deal
with issues (wanting to change a urgent issue)
however the issues are quite different.
CRITICALLY EVALUATE THE IMPACT OF THE
INTERVIEWEES MISSION STATEMENT ON YOUR
OWN
My mission statement: My mission statement does
have a very big impact on the way I behave. It is
basically a description of the person I am aiming to
become so it sets for me the values and morales
of my life that I will live by. I think it also has a
big influence on others in the community. My main
aim in life is to be successful so that I can help
others in society. I want to make a positive change
in society so this involves influencing them with
what I do. This effect is not harmful it is helpful.
It is good. Its helpful because I will by no means
be influencing people in a negative way but rather
in a positive light, by trying to help them be
successful in life in/by presenting them with
opportunities that can help improve their lives as
well as the lives of those around them. I do regard
myself as a good citizen and role model. I believe
that I have been fortunately presented with many
opportunities in life that most people dont have. I
plan to give back and to try and help others with
their goals. This is why I think I could be a good
role model and why I think I am a good citizen.
M. Torress Mission Statement: This person had a
very important effect on herself as well as on the
community. By achieving her goal (becoming a
dietition) she gained more awareness about her own
life/health. It was also very influential to the
community because she worked with different
people from the community as her job. She had to
give them advice as well as to help them learn to
live a healthier life. This had a very helpful effect
on the community because she helped people live
longer lives by teaching them to live healthier. She
had a very good effect on the community.
MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS
My mission statement can be improved by being
more specific (less vague) about how I intend on
uplifting the community/on achieving this goal. I
can add what I have in mind (like starting some
sort of community project.. etc..)
I suggest that for a grade 12 learner to make their
mission statement , he or she needs to first take a
second and figure out what his or her personal life
goal is (what the person wants to achieve out of
life). This is a good way to start, because once you
have your goal you can start trying to figure out a
way to achieve it. A hint to help make a powerful
statement would be to try and find something your
passionate about. A mission statement is telling
someone (and yourself) what you want achieve in
your life so it should be something your very
enthusiastic and passionate about. It also needs to
be realistic. A mission statements goal might seem
quite far away/big but it should be something
(that if required, through hard work) can be
achievable/attained.
GIVE A BRIEF CONCLUSION
A mission statement is something very important
to have. It basically presents you with something
that gives you an idea if what you plan to do with
your life (which is especially nice if you dont really
know what you want to do after school, it helps
you at least realise that there are some goals that
you can work towards). It also helps you gain
insight into what kind of person you want to be
and what kind of influence you can actually have in
society. In conclusion: I learnt a lot about myself as
well as the person I interviewed. I learnt that I
actually do have long term goals and that there is
something I am striving to achieve (other than
getting a degree).
