Academic/Merit Scholarship
Cathedral High School offers over $800,000 in financial assistance annually, which is distributed to over 90% of its
students. Part of the financial assistance comes in the form of academic/merit scholarships. Each year Cathedral High
School allots full merit scholarships to freshman who demonstrate both academic and leadership potential as evidenced by
their 7th & 8th grade transcripts as well as their performance on the Catholic School High School Placement Test (HSPT).
This scholarship is renewable for each year the students attend Cathedral provided he/she maintains a “B” average, remains
a good citizen, and continues to demonstrate leadership.

1. Imagine that you have graduated from high school and college and have become famous. You have been contacted by an author who wants to

Catholic co-educational high school prepare you to be able to make these contributions? How has your life’s work reflected the lessons you
learned in high school?
2. Life is full of challenges and opportunities. Some of the challenges may seem overwhelming and appear to prevent us from reaching or goals,
whatever they may be. Describe the biggest challenge you have faced so far and how you have overcome or dealt with this challenge. What has
been the most important opportunity you have ever had? How did you use that opportunity?
3. Imagine that your job is to recruit volunteers to do community service work for your favorite charity or case. Describe the purpose or goal of the
charity or cause and why you believe this is such a worthwhile project. Then construct a speech you would give encouraging these people to do
volunteer work with this group.
