Lesson Plan 2.1 Definition Element, Compound

This lesson plan is for a 7th grade science class on elements and compounds. It will take place over 3 periods of 40 minutes each. Students will work in groups to discuss the meanings of elements and compounds. They will observe samples to group them and write symbols. Students will determine names of compounds and formulas. Assessment includes written tests on definitions and symbols as well as a performance test where students group samples. The lesson aims to help students describe the meanings of elements and compounds as well as write symbols and names.

Solution:

1. Element is substance that cannot be broken down into simpler substance by ordinary
chemical methods.
Compound is a substance containing two or more elements joined together by
chemical bonds.
