EDC16 Tuning Guide

This document summarizes the key fuel and boost maps in the EDC16 engine management system, which is used in cars like the Seat Leon and Golf 5. It describes 5 main maps: 1) the drivers wish map, which determines torque based on throttle position and RPM 2) the torque limiter map, which limits torque based on RPM and atmospheric pressure 3) the NM to IQ conversion map, which converts requested torque to injected quantity 4) the boost map, which sets required boost based on torque and RPM 5) the boost limiter map, which limits boost based on atmospheric pressure and RPM. Information like map names, locations, dimensions and scaling factors are provided.

Introduction: The EDC16 system is used in cars like the Seat Leon, golf 5 and other cars that are produced in the same period. The system looks a lot like the EDC15 system, but the EDC16 system is based on Torque (Nm) instead of Injected Quantity. There are a few more differences that are explained in this document. For all examples in this document I used the Seat Leon 105hp file

Fuel related maps 1. Drivers wish Maps: General: This map shows the required torque based on the RPM and the Throttle position. The output of this map is Torque in Nm. There may be more drivers wish maps, in the file I used for this guide there were 8 drivers wish maps.

2. Torque limiter: General: This map limits the torque of the engine based on RPM and atmospheric pressure. The output of this map is also Torque in Nm.

3. Nm to IQ conversion map: General: This map converts the requested Torque in Nm into IQ (injected quantity).

4. Turbo map: General: This map set the required boost depending on the requested torque and current rpm. There might be more than one boost map. In this file there are 2 boost maps.
