In the essay below I wrote in my English composition class in October of 2013. We were told to write about education.

I chose to write about keeping the traditions inside the classroom and technology out. In this essay you will read the benefits of keeping the traditions and keeping technology to a minimum. elow I state that kids don!t learn as much anymore" because if they don!t know the answer they end up looking it up on the internet instead of pushing through and pushing themsel#es academically. I chose to share this essay with you" because I know that you ha#e a strong opinion about education and I would like to share mine with you. $his essay also hit home" because when I was in school there was #ery little technology while I grew up. $hen when I got into high school technology was e#erywhere" and I think that is where education came to a screeching halt in my school. %chool is an important aspect and should be taken more seriously by e#eryone. I en&oyed writing this essay" because it was almost all opinion based. I like being able to state my opinion and ha#ing facts back me up.

-eeping the $raditions Inside the *lassroom and $echnology Out. (any people think that technology is a necessity of life" and some also think it could be hampering students learning ability in the classroom. When it comes to a classroom" many types of technologies can come in handy" but there are also many down sides. *hildren need to learn to be self.sufficient" the technology is getting in the way of learning" and /merican children are falling behind in the world of academics. With technology within easy grasp" many kids are more apt to &ust look up their answers on the internet" or rely on the technology gi#en to them. 0$he Internet" an immeasurably powerful computing system" is subsuming most of our other intellectual technologies. It!s becoming our map and our clock" our printing press and our typewriter" our calculator and our telephone" and our radio and $12 3*arr4. $herefore" in the classroom" technology becomes a hassle to deal with" and many kids lean on the technology too much. +or e5ample" when the students are gi#en an essay or a paper" it is easy for them to look up the answer or maybe the paper might already be written for them. $he trouble with 0learning2 by doing research or looking information up is that the brain won!t process that information it would if they were to read a book or do something more tactile. I belie#e the use of traditional aspects in a classroom" such as books and writing should always be in the classroom because it is a good stimulation for the mind. 6owe#er" school is called school for a reason and that reason is to learn. (ost teens7kids I know ha#e a cell phone" te5t" and with that comes the distraction of te5ting in class" facebook" instagram" and any other social media sites. %ome technology is wonderful for the classroom8 for e5ample smart boards and power points. With great success of technology can come great failure as well. If a teacher prepares the whole entire lesson on a type of technology program and it crashes" they now ha#e to teach by memory and could possibly lea#e out #ital information. I work in a classroom and I belie#e that keeping things simple for kids is the best way for them to learn their material. When one complicates his7her work by using technology" it could make the student stressed out. %ome kids aren!t able to access the criteria that might be needed for the assignment. 9nfortunately" the children in /merica are a step behind the world in their academics. I belie#e some of the lack in academics for /mericans is due to the use of technology. I ha#e learned by writing to one of my good friends in another country that they are much more ad#anced in their writing skills than /mericans. If all we do is type and turn our assignments in online" we e#entually start to forget about penmanship and spelling. /s I stated before" I work in a classroom" and I see more children not knowing how to use cursi#e now than I did when I was in school. If people &ust rely on spell check when they type" what happens when they actually ha#e to write something important such as a &ob application: I belie#e that keeping traditions inside the school is imperati#e to the learning process of humans because" it!s a part of our history. I hope as you read this it opened your eyes to see that sometimes technology should stay out of our li#es to an e5tent. $here are always going to be those pros and cons to e#ery issue we face in today!s society. $echnology is putting /mericans behind in academics and the

learningcur#e is slowly decreasing. We should use technology to a point but also know when to keep it out of the classroom. Carr, Nicholas. "Is Google Making Us Stupid?" The Atlantic. N.p., 1 July 2008. Web. 01 Oct. 2013.
