Introduction
This document describes the recovery procedure for the "login" password and "enable" password. These passwords are used to protect access to Cisco VG248 Voice Gateway and configuration modes. The login and enable passwords are encrypted. Therefore, you need to replace your password with a new password.

Caution: Be aware that the password recovery procedure clears your current configuration and resets the Cisco VG248 to factory defaults.

Step-by-Step Procedure
Complete these steps: 1. Attach a terminal or PC with terminal emulation to the console port of the router. Use these terminal settings: 9600 baud rate No parity 8 data bits 1 stop bit No flow control For information on the console cable specifications, refer to Cabling Guide for Console and AUX Ports. 2. When you connect to the Cisco VG248, a login screen is displayed:

3. Power cycle the VG248. Complete these steps: a. Pull out the power cable. b. Plug in the power cable. While the VG248 boots up, the "Paus i ng f or FTP. . . . . . . Pr es s ESCAPE f or boot l oader m enu " message is displayed:

4. Press ESC within 10 seconds. The Cisco VG248 Loader Main Menu is displayed. 5. Select Restore to factory configuration from the Main Menu.

You are prompted to confirm the action. 6. Select Yes. 7. Select Restart from the Main Menu. You are prompted to confirm your selection.

8. Select Yes. The system restarts. 9. Press ESC again when the "Paus i ng f or FTP. . . . . . . Pr es s ESCAPE f or boot l oader m enu " message is displayed. The Cisco VG248 Loader Main Menu is displayed. 10. Select Configure network interface from the Main Menu.

11. Fill in the relevant network interface details:

12. Press ESC to return to the Main Menu. 13. Select Restart again. 14. Allow the system to boot normally. Your Cisco VG248 is now ready for configuration as described in the Software Configuration Guide.
