Summary
Brief Story
The year is 2018. The economic downturn is taking its toll on the citizens of United Columbus States. In an attempt to decrease the populations growing depression rate, a drug company issues out a new experimental drug. However, the drug has its side effects and causes the users to become more agitated. A riot ensues months after the drug is released and the protagonist gets caught in the middle, eventually getting knocked out in the chaos. Waking up from a coma in an abandoned hospital, it is soon clear that the country has gone to ruin. The protagonist learns of a place called Haven where his/her family might reside and sets of on a journey to find it.
The Game
Outbreak is a 3rd person shooter with elements of action-adventure, survival horror and role-playing in it. The player has to battle zombie-like enemies as well as humans as he journeys though the game. It also has light tower defence gameplay. The game is set in the fictional country United Columbus States (based on United States of America) and the player is thrust upon an open-world as their digital playground. The openworld takes place in three cities, Dawnzerg, New Zerkaa and Lexington. The player will be controlling a character named Jones. The character will be fully customizable to the player liking at the start of the game. The player is set on a journey through this world in an attempt to discover clues on how to find Haven and reunited with the protagonists family. The game was created in reference to the increasing popularity that the zombie genre has received in recent years. I strongly believe that there will be market for the game.

Story
The story is set in 2018. The rising inflation and declining economy is causing the citizens of United Columbus States (fictionalized United States of America) to become overly stress and depressed, reaching its highest ever percentage of people having depression. A pharmaceutical company, Telcorp, releases a new experimental drug designed to reduce stress and combat depression for the public. Within weeks, the drug is sold out at most pharmacies and clinics after the drug is advertised. However, side effects of the drug start to occur. People start becoming more irritable and agitated as time passes on. 7 months after the drug is released, a riot breaks out in Dawnsberg, one of the states of United Columbus. Our protagonist is caught in the middle of the riot and is eventually knocked out by one of the rioters. The protagonist wakes up 3 months later in a hospital. Searching around for a doctor, he/she later finds out that the hospital has been abandoned as there is no sign of life. He/she later encounters one of the infected and gets attacked by it but is saved by travelling group of people who were raiding the hospital for supplies. The group explained that the drug caused people to lose their minds and become rabid to the point of cannibalism. They explained that there is a government manned quarantine zone called Haven, and that the protagonists family might be residing within the zone. Unfortunately, they have no clue where this zone might be. Determined to find his/her family (consisting of a sister and parents), the protagonist sets out to find out where Haven is. Shortly through the journey, the protagonist encounters Miller, a teenager who too wants to find Haven and accompanies the protagonist through the journey. Shortly after meeting Miller, they encounter bandits. The bandits are people who mercilessly kill anyone, infected or not, for supplies. They learn after taking down the bandits that there is more of their group scattered around the country and they take orders from a mysterious person named Strauss. They later find a small group of people who have built a small area for survivors. Their leader, Robert, tells them that they can find more information on Haven in the state of New Zerkaa, the state where the government first evacuated its people. Arriving in New Zerkaa, they find the place mostly occupied by the bandits, after picking up more clues the protagonist finds out that Haven is in Lexington but are soon captured by bandit forces and taken to their headquarters and there they find out who Strauss is, turning out to be the protagonists sister. After seeing her parents get killed by raiders when they were residing at a shelter for survivors, the sister became a merciless leader of bandits, only sparing those she trusts.
16
If the player chose to be merciless to most survivors and kill them for supplies, Strauss will give the protagonist a choice of whether to join her group. Choosing her group would mean Miller would be killed. Choosing not to join would result in Strauss sparing the protagonist and Miller just this once because of her family ties. If the player chose to spare survivor they met, Strauss gives the order for the protagonist to be killed instead. The protagonist would eventually escape and save Miller before continuing on to Lexington with Miller. The player travels to Lexington either with Strauss or Miller depending on the choices. Shortly through the journey to Lexington, if the player chose to be merciless to survivors, Miller would leave the protagonist because of the immoral things he/she has done. Nothing changes if the player showed mercy. Arriving in Lexington, the protagonist finds no trace of Haven. After gathering more clues, it is revealed that Haven is not a safe zone but actually a cure for the disease. After finding Haven, the player can choose to synthetize it or destroy it. If the player chose to side with Strauss and synthesize the cure, Strauss and the protagonist go on to take over United Columbus, creating a system whereby they release to those that only they deem worthy. If the player chose to side with Strauss but destroys the cure, the protagonist ends up accidently killing Strauss through an scuffle and later takes over being the bandit leader. If the player did not side with Strauss, is left by Miller and chooses to synthesize the cure, Strauss intervenes but gets killed by the protagonist. The protagonist only gives the cure to those who obeys him/her and is later given a new threat in the form of Miller who becomes the new bandit leader. If the player did not side with Strauss, is left by Miller and chooses to destroy the cure, Miller later intervenes and kills off the protagonist. Miller is unable to save the cure and eventually commits suicide as he has nothing left to live for. If the player still has Miller by their side and chooses to synthesize the cure, Strauss intervenes and kills off Miller but later gets killed off by the protagonist. The protagonist brings the cure to Robert where they plan to slowly give the cure to the public. If the player still has Miller by their side and chooses to destroy the cure, Miller intervenes and but gets killed by the protagonist. The protagonist returns to Robert s village to start life anew.

Age: 24 The character will be fully customizable to players at the start of the game. Things that would be customizable include facial features (eyes, nose, mouth, ears), hairstyles (multiple styles consisting of long, medium and short length), body structure (height and weight), voice and gender (male or female) Backstory: The ecumenical cripple has caused many people to lose their jobs. The protagonist is one of them, losing his/her job of a writer. Tensions arise in the family when the protagonists father, the last breadwinner, has also lost his job. This forces t he protagonist to go in search of a job. As the protagonist walks home after having an interview, he/she is caught in the middle of a riot and is knocked out. The protagonist wakes up and finds the city in ruins. Determined to find out whats happened to the country and to the family, the protagonist sets out on a journey, with only the mysterious Haven in mind.
Strauss

She had the demeanour of a normal teenage girl, worried about looks and boys attention. During the outbreak, Valerie and her parents were forced to move out of the house and survive outside. They found a shelter available for survivors and things went well until raiders invaded the shelter. Her parents were killed in the ensuing invasion and caused Valerie psychological damage. Miller
Age: 19 Height: 1.86 Gender: Male Hairstyle: Medium length shaggy curly hair Backstory: Miller didnt do well in his Finals and was waiting to be re -entered into school when the outbreak occurred. Enemies
Enemies include the infected, which are zombie-like people, and bandits, who are human.
Infected- common
These infected people are the most common of the infected. Appearance: Looks like a normal human, however there are some distinct features. Their faces have veins easily visible. Eyes are also bloodshot. They moan when not alerted but make growling noises when they are alerted. Backstory: The side effects of the drug have caused the infection of the Hypothalamus, the part of the brain that affects aggression, and caused people to become more aggressive. At first found to make people more agitated, it eventually made people become rabid beings who have no control over their bodies and have a taste for flesh. The infection spreads to the blood stream, making anyone bitten infected.
Infected Stalker
These infected people are not as common as the common infected. Appearance: Appears hunched over and emaciated, pupils of their eyes are faded out due to them being blind. Backstory: Stalkers are people who had a unique reaction to the infection. The infection had caused the infected persons eyes to lose its sight, however it allowed their sense of smell and hearing to be heightened. Stalkers are also more feral than common infected and get hungrier.
Infected - Brute
These infected people are rare to be found Appearance: Has protrusions that resemble tumours on the infected persons face. The muscles on the infected persons body overgrown to huge proportions and gives the appearance of a monster. Backstory: Brutes are also infected people who had a unique reaction to the infection. Not only infecting the persons bloodstream, it also had a reaction to the muscle system in the body and caused them to grow to monstrous proportions, including the face s muscles which produced the protrusions.

Gameplay Overview
The game is played in a 3rd person perspective. It will have an open-world for the player to explore. Here is a list of important components.
Weapons
There are multiple weapons for the player to use to defend themselves against enemies. These weapons are split into two categories, ranged and melee. Ranged weapons are weapons that damage from range, and consist of things like bows, and guns. Melee weapons are weapons that damage in close proximity, and consist of knives and swords. Ranged weapons need ammunition and melee weapons need to be sharpened to be able to use.
Sneaking
Players are encouraged as much as possible to be quiet in the game while doing missions or exploring the world. Making too much noise will alert enemies and cause the player to be overwhelmed by enemy numbers. When near an enemy, players should crouch to move around and sneak up to dispatch them.
Supplies
Supplies can be found when exploring the world, as enemy loot, through side missions or through killing survivors. Supplies are split into three categories, resources, health, and ammunition. Resources are used to maintain the homestead and consist of things like wood, steel and food. Health supplies are used for healing the player and any survivors taken with them when not in the homestead. Ammunition supplies are used for weapons. Ammunition consists of bullets/arrows for ranged weapons and cinder blocks for sharpening the melee weapons.
Expendables
Expendables can also be found when exploring the world, as enemy loot, through side missions or through killing survivors. Expendables are mainly used to create explosives to either damage enemies or distract them. Expendables can in different varieties such as alcohol, cloths and gunpowder. These expendables are then combined to create things like Molotov cocktails, flash bangs and smoke grenades. However, the player has to be careful as combining expendables is done in real-time and takes time to make. The player should find a place to hide when there are enemies in order to avoid being found by them.
30
Day-Night cycle
There is a day-night cycle within the game. Players can keep track of it by looking at the clock which appears onscreen. Certain missions are only available at certain times so the player should keep an eye out for the time. During the day time, there is less of the infected but more bandits while the night time has more infected but less bandits.
Missions
Missions are broken into 2 categories, story and side. Story missions are done to further the story in the game and doing all of them completes the game for the player as well as provides some supplies for the player. Side missions are completely optional missions for the player to do. Although optional, these missions provide supplies for the player and are recommended to do.
Speech Choices
The player has the chance to initiate a conversation with other characters in the world. Initiating a conversation will bring up several speech options to talk about. These speech responses are entirely unique and can make player responses range from being neutral to aggressive to the NPCs (Non-playable Characters) they talk to. Depending on how the player responses to NPC conversations, NPCs would react differently. This would affect how the NPC communicates with player in the future and also with gameplay. For example, if the player was aggressive to a certain NPC, the NPC would not help the player in future missions.
Spare or Kill
Being that this game will be open-world, the player would be to explore the world freely. While exploring the world, the player might encounter other NPCs roaming the world. These NPCs are not enemies but neutral and called survivors. Encountering one presents the player with two choices, spare them or kill them. Sparing them would allow them to join your group. Joining the players group mea ns that the player can bring them out on missions or for general exploration of the world. Survivors have their own skills to help the player with. However, since they have joined the players group, supplies will be depleted more quickly at homesteads. Killing them would help the player garner valuable supplies which are usually rare to find in the game. These supplies can help the player with homestead maintenance and on missions as well. However, killing too many survivors might affect how other NPCs react to you and will affect the story component.
31
Homesteads
Throughout the world, the player can find areas which will serve as a base for them. These areas, called homesteads, help the player rest from injuries sustained from missions or from exploring, and help them gain back full health. Multiple homesteads can be used at the same time and can be occupied by survivors spared by the player while exploring. Homesteads can be individually upgraded to house more survivors and to defend better against the infected. Homesteads must also be maintained. Attacks by infected provide damage to the homestead and the survivors. Supplies are needed to either repair the homestead or heal the survivors who have taken damage.

Appendix - Story
This delves into more detail on 3 parts of the story from the protagonists point of view.
The Backstory
Everything seems to be in a muddle. Stock prices are at an all-time low, the economy has gone to hell and people are losing their jobs. Heck, I just lost mine a week ago. It seems that the suicide rates are getting higher as well; people just cant handle the stress of it all. Theres this talk of a drug company creating a new drug to help people cope with stress and depression, Konetocin I think its called. They say its supposed to get people to relax and could cure depression. Bring Yourself to paradise, thats their headline. Apparently its going to start selling the next week. Ill probably pass on it, not a fan of taking pills. I cant help but feel that this is probably being rushed out though, with the situation being this dire. Nevertheless, Telcorp have hit the gold mine. If the drug really works as advertised, its going to sell like hotcakes. Perhaps the drug could help everyone get pass this struggle, help people start anew.
