Interpretation of Data

1. Objectives of the study The objective of this research project is to make a comprehensive study on the impact and level of awareness among different strata of society about the new born legislation Right to Information, Act 2005. For this purpose, a field study was carried out, empirical data was collected and accordingly inferences were drawn. Objectives of project report are following: i. ii. iii. To study whether people in the society have adequate knowledge about their right to get information under this act. To study the awareness level of people about the penalties imposed under RTI, Act. To study whether people know the appeal procedure of a complaint.

2. Significance of the Project As we all know Right to Information Act, 2005 is a very effective and powerful tool given to the people of society to ensure checks and balance which is an integral part of democratic system. This project aims at checking the awareness level among people so that necessary measures can be dug out to ensure its expansion to each corner of society. Also, as budding lawyers it may further provide us with required practical knowledge about the legislation. 3. Hypothesis of the Project The three hypothesis of the project are: People are aware about their right to seek information from government office under RTI, 2005. People are aware of the appeal procedure under this Act.

4. Methodology of the Project The Project study is empirical in nature. At first stage, preliminary data will be collected to as to whether or not the person is aware of his right to seek information under RTI, 2005. Sample will include anyone above the age of 18 and who can take benefit out of this legislation. All the sample groups were administrated questionnaires/interview-schedules. Same questionnaires/interviewschedules were prepared for all the sample-groups. These questionnaires/interview-schedules were developed by concerned faculty and no further amendments were made. The next stage will include collection of data regarding the awareness about tenure of reply of complaint, penalty imposed in case of no-reply and appeal procedure to the common people. The third stage included the information regarding the past experience of a person if he/she has previously filed an RTI application as to under which office it was filed, reason for filing, its status and re-filing of appeal against the decision of P.I.O.
