HT Capacitor Sizing-Motor

This document provides the design calculation for sizing 6.6kV capacitor banks for a facility. It describes: 1) Calculating the kVAR rating needed for a 1,500kW ball mill motor based on its power factor and efficiency. The required kVAR was 876. 2) Selecting a 876kVAR capacitor bank with a 6% series reactor. This provides the required compensation at the system voltage of 4.75kV. 3) The ratings of the selected 876kVAR capacitor bank and 80kVAR reactor meet the requirements to avoid motor self-excitation.
