Key Questions:
26. (a) 12 pack $3.49 / 12 = $ 0.29 cents per roll
24 pack $5.69/24 = $ 0.24 cent per roll
48 pack $6.99/48 = $0.15 cents per roll
(b) A single person might purchase a 12 pack since they will need less, while a couple
may buy a 24 pack, and a family buy the biggest pack of 48.
27. (a) Estimate:
2 batteries $5/2 = $2.50 per battery
8 batteries $10/8 = $1.25 per battery
(b)Actual cost:
2 batteries $4.79/2 = $2.40 per battery
8 batteries $10.29/8 = $1.29 per battery
(c) The package with the lower unit price might not be the better buy since sometimes all
you need is 2 and not 8.
(d) $4.79 x 4 = $19.16 8 batteries at the package price of 2 would cost $19.16
(e) 10.29 x 1.15 = $11.83
Sale total: $11.83 Amount tendered: $20.00
+ 2 pennies = $11.85
+ 1 nickel = $11.90
+ 1 dime = $12.00
+ 1 loonie = $13.00
+1 toonie = $15.00

+ 5 dollar bill = $20.00

28. $3.99 / 420 = .0095 cents per gram (rounded to .01)
(a) 800g x $0.0095 = $7.60
800g x $0.01 = $8.00
(b) 375g x $0.0095 = $3.56
375g x $0.01 = $3.75
(c) 125g x $0.0095 = $1.19
125g x $0.01 = $1.25
(d) 500g x $0.0095 = $4.75
500g x $0.01 = $5.00
29. 59 / 750 ml = $0.079 per ml
24 x 355 = 8520ml
499 / 8520 = $0.059 per ml
750ml bottle: .079x100 = 7.90 cents per 100ml
24 pack = $0.059x100 = 5.90 cents per 100ml
The pack of 24 works out to be 5.9 cents per 100ml.
30(a) Estimate:
$35.00 + $3.50 + $2.50 = $41.00
10% - $41.00 x .10 = $4.10 rouned down to $4.00
5% - $41.00 x .05 = $2.05 rounded down to $2.00
$41.00 + $6.00 = $47.00
(b)Actual cost:
$34.99 + $3.49 + $2.34 = $40.82
$40.82 x 1.15 = $46.94
