Snow day closures dont include extreme cold


As the song goes, Baby its cold outside! The unusual weather conditions this winter have forced us to reevaluate our policies for snow day closures. Hopefully you have seen the flyers posted at the entrance, the sign -in table and at the classrooms stating that GLCDC will stay open when local school close for extremely cold temperatures. Because we do not have students who walk to school or wait at a bus stop, its not necessary to close GLCDC on very cold days. We will continue to follow school closures for Warren Consolidated if the district is closing due to heavy snowfall and unsafe road conditions. When the weather isnt too frightful, Pre-K and preschool students need appropriate outer wear for playing outside. Please make sure your child has a coat, snowpants, boots, mittens and a hat every day.

GLCDC working on technological updates


The center is working with a computer tech guru to update the way we share information with the world. Part of the new system will include the ability to send mass emails to all parents, alerting you to a snow day or some other emergency closure. In addition, we will move toward a paperless system where this newsletter, the menu and monthly classroom calendars will only be available on-line. You can choose to print them out at home, or access them from any mobile device. Save trees go paperless! The entire process will take a few weeks, but were very excited to get up and running as soon as possible! Our website will not change; you can still find us at www.greatlakescdc.com

Happy Valentines Day at GLCDC


Love is in the air at GLCDC! Our annual Valentines Day party is Friday, Feb. 14. We are asking $1 per child to cover the cost of a special pizza lunch. We dont need treats or snacks that day, but you can send in wrapped candy if you choose. If your child wants to bring Valentines for his or her classmates, just put your own childs name on each card. Pre-K students should try to write their own names on their cards. Its good practice!

Hip hip hooray! Its 100 days


Days and weeks of hard work, piles of papers, hours of playtime all add up to 100 days of school hooray! The Pre-K classes will mark 100 days of school on Tuesday, Feb. 11 with some special activities. Help your Pre-K student celebrate 100 days of school: Each child should count out 100 of something to eat such as Cheerios, raisins, M&Ms, Froot Loops, Goldfish crackers, Chex, chocolate chips, or any other small munchie. We will take all of the items and mix them together into one, big 100 Day Party Snack Mix!! The days celebrations will include a parade through the school and lots of counting fun!

Do you know someone who cant find the positive in any situation? On the other hand, you probably know someone who is always happy, no matter how bad things get. The bottom line is, no one can make you unhappy. You can allow unpleasant situations to bring you down, or you can focus on the positives. Dig down deep and find the happiness within your own soul. To paraphrase President Lincoln, make up your mind to be as happy as you can be.
