INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAKING GRANNY SQUARES (Make 10 large and 6 small grannies.) Note: Instructions for small granny squares can be found in italics at the end of Row 2. Ch 4, sl st in first sc to join. Row 1: With MC, ch 3 (counts as first dc), 2 dc in center of ring, ch 2, 3 dc in ring ch 2, two more times in ring. Sl st in beg ch 3. Finish off. Row 2: : With AC1, ch 3 in any ch 2 space (counts as first dc), 2 dc in space, ch 2 to form corner, 3 dc in same space, in next ch 2 space, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in next ch 2 space, repeat 2 more times, sl st to join to the 3rd chain stitch you crocheted at the beginning of the round. (Stop here and finish off for collar grannies. Finish off. Row 3: With AC2, ch 3 in any ch 2 space (counts as first dc), 2 dc in space, ch 2 to form corner, 3 dc in same space, sk 3 dc, 3 dc in next space, sk 3 dc, 3 dc in next space, ch 2 to form corner, 3 dc in same space) repeat 2 more times, sl st to join to the 3rd chain stitch you crocheted at the beginning of the round. Finish off. CARDIGAN BACK Foundation: With MC, ch 47. Row 1: Work 1 ehdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 2, turn. Row 2: Work 1 ehdc in each ehdc across, ch 2, turn. Rows 3-24: Repeat Row 2 (back should measure approximately 10" long). Finish off. FRONT (make 2) Base: Sl st 2 large grannies together. (Note: It doesn't matter how you position them.) Row 1: sc across 23 sts, ch 2 turn. Row 2: Ehdc across 23 sts, ch 2, turn. Row 3-16: Repeat Row 2 (front pieces should measure the same as the back (10")). Finish off. SLEEVES (make 2) Base: Sl st 3 large grannies together. Row 1: sc across 36 sts, ch 2, turn. Row 2: Ehdc across 36 sts, ch 2, turn. Rows 3-11: Repeat Row 2, finish off. CONNECTING Front and back: With WS facing you, sl st shoulders together 2.5" from outside edge Sleeves: Center sleeve with shoulder seams and sl st together. Sides and bottom of sleeves: Sl st together. COLLAR Sl st together alternating colors of small grannies (6). With WS up (facing you), sc collar to neck opening. (Using a sc it helps to not only secure the collar but helps it to stand up a little better.) FINAL TOUCH Sl st around the entire garment (including the collar and sleeves). Sew your small buttons where you would like them, keeping in mind that the ehdc will be your buttonhole.
