Nat3 - Quick Start

1. The document provides instructions for setting up and using Acustica audio's NAT3 software to sample hardware devices either using ASIO sampling or offline sampling. 2. For ASIO sampling, the user needs to connect their audio hardware to their audio interface, select the proper audio settings and inputs/outputs, and then sample by filling out a sampler form and monitoring levels. 3. For offline sampling, the user generates a large wav file, loads it into their DAW, renders it with the target plugin, overwrites the original file, and then uses NAT3 to deconvolve the sample from the processed wav.

Start the application

Open the Settings -> Audio Settings menu

Not needed if you plan to sample OFFLINE. In that case, go to step 5.

Select the ASIO driver, input and output connections

Please note, if you dont have an ASIO driver, download and configure the ASIO4ALL universal driver from www.asio4all.com.

Here you configure INPUT and OUTPUT connections that will be used for ASIO sampling.

Calibrate your ASIO delay (optional)

Sub-step A: Connect the Output 1 (left) of your audio card to the Input 1 (left) of your audio card using a mono cable.

Sub-step B: DISCONNECT YOUR LOUDSPEAKERS and push the check button.

Open the Settings -> Preferences menu, General tab

Select your preferred Nebula instance

Connect your hardware device

For a proper stereo sampling you need at least 4 mono cables and:

Outputs from your audio card should be connected to the inputs of your hardware device. Outputs from your hardware device should be connected to the inputs of your audio card. DISCONNECT your loudspeakers AND your headphones. It could be DANGEROUS for your health and your equipment.

10

Open a sampling session

Drag&drop a session file.

TIPS: A Session is a file with XML extension. A Template is a file with N2X extension. You need a specific Session and Template for a proper sampling. They should be located in the same windows folder. Download more Sessions and Templates from www.acusticaudio.net

11

Alternatively you could load a Session from the File -> Open menu.

12

10

Fill the Sampler form

Select a proper name, category and description.

Select a File Name from your program data. It will be the name used for storing the program file (N2P extension) and the vector file (N2V extension).

Select a File Name for your temporary data. A couple of Gigabytes of free space are recommended.

13

11

Push the Sample button

You could check the elapsed time in the left corner of the Sampler form.

Check both input and output meters. If they are not visible, click on the meters item located in the tree menu on the left.

14

12

Check your input meter

TIPS: The input meter should never clip. The input level should be greater than -30dB.

You could stop a sampling session, adjust the gain level and start it again.

15

TIPS: Adjust the gain on your hardware device if needed. Adjust the gain of your audio soundcard if equipped with input/output controls. For a fast detection, push the Check button.

At the end of the sampling step, Nebula will process the recorded file automatically:

TIPS: It could take a long time, depending on the actual Session. The process is complete when the Sample button changes its state again.

16

13

Enjoy
Close NAT3 (mandatory). Load Nebula from your preferred host sequencer or editor. Select the proper category and program.

17

OFFLINE sampling
The procedure is similar to the one discussed for ASIO sampling, but the process is slightly different: You should select a proper OFFLINE Session. Download them from www.acusticaudio.net. When the Offline form is completely filled, you should push the Generate button.

A big wav file will be created in your Temporary Data folder (Temporary Data group-box). Load it in your preferred host sequencer or editor.

18

19

Load the target plug-in, and render it.

Overwrite the original file.

Close your host application and open NAT3 again. Select the SAME session previously loaded.
