Communication Mechanisms
Media (TV, Newspapers, Radio, Internet) Public displays and exhibitions Public talks and meetings (with Q&A)
In an application for funding you could: -Mention utilising your press office and producing press releases at key project stages -Say you will track any media coverage a project receives -Create summary reports or publish documents (when suitable) online -Embed rolling news, a blog or twitter link to your website (if you will use it) -Think about key stakeholders relevant to your research and how you might communicate to them e.g. magazines, support groups -Identify a mediating organisation e.g. local University of the Third Age

In an application for funding you could: - Highlight any of the above that appear as a method for their public engagement dimension - Think about a public stakeholder participating in an advisory group - Invite comments on any summary reports or published documents (but consider any response you may need to make)

In an application for funding you could: - Mention seeking additional funding for one of the above to occur during National Science and Engineering Week or Festival of Social Science - Make connections with the local Science Cafs in Bristol and Bath - Make contact with relevant museums, cultural organisations or science centres who need experts - Remember participation is , cover its costs within the bid if possible

- Avoid tokenism - Be specific - Highlight the key beneficiaries or audiences - Make it appropriate to your skills, experience and confidence - Seek the support/advice of others e.g. professional facilitators

Indicators for Impact- Cultural Enrichment, including improved public engagement with science and research Useful to:
- Keep clippings of media coverage/ use Nexis for retrospective/secondary coverage - Capture anecdotal evidence/emails/letters in response - Incorporate evaluation in your public engagement work/consider a link to student projects
