a) Recession period is not a reason for Malaysia from keep progressing in construction development. The ongoing housing projects have led to traffic congestion due to the increased number of vehicles. With the aid of diagrams, proposed a suitable method of tunnel construction in order to divert the traffic congestion for the existing route. Describe in detail the sequence of construction for the proposed tunnel. (15 marks) b) Explain briefly, five (5) environmental impacts that might affect the whole process of marine structure construction. (10 marks)
QUESTION 2 a) Referring to our local projects, there are lot of issues and constraints associated to marine structure construction . You have been appointed as the new Project Manager of Naza Sepang Properties to construct a 200 metre sea breaker to protect the existing reclaimed area. With the aid of annotated illustration and an extensive explanation, you are responsible to prepare a method of construction using equipment involved and material required by taking the surrounding condition into consideration. (15 marks)
b) Elaborate briefly four (4) factors influencing the construction of an airfield by using any case study as justification. (10 marks)
QUESTION 3 a) With the aid of annotated illustration and an extensive explanation, you are responsible to prepare an airfield construction for the extension area of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). Appropriate diagrams and justification on each step are required by taking any related case study as references. (15 marks)
b) Explain briefly, five (5) potential challenges during the construction of a tunnel in the city centre. (10 marks)

PARTB QUESTION 1 Propose a suitable type of dam to be constructed across a broad river and in an area of compressible subsoil. The construction is to make use of the available rock in the area. a) With a fully annotated diagram, illustrate in detail the construction sequence of the proposed dam. (20 marks) b) For safety reason, ancillary structures are integrated into dam or constructed separately in order to regulate the water level in the reservoir. Describe briefly two (2) structures/appurtenances normally used to control the water level. (5 marks) QUESTION 2 a) Travelersform is normally used for the construction of highway bridges. i) State the type of highway-bridge suitable to be constructed using the travelers form. (3 marks) ii) With the aid of sketches, describe in detail a method of construction of a highway-bridge using travelers form. (15 marks) b) Describe briefly, the different methods of depositing or discharging of dredged materials by a dredger for land reclamation work. (7 marks) QUESTION 3 a) Analyze the information gathered from an exploratory site investigation, propose the type of road pavement suitable for the area and state the rational for the proposal.
