CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) can be defined as the ethical behavior of a company towards the society initiated to build a platform for noble ideas of human values by profit organizations. The goal of CSR is to embrace responsibility for the company's actions and encourage a positive impact through its activities on the environment, consumers, employees, communities, stakeholders and all other members. CSR has become increasingly prominent in the Indian corporate scenario because organizations have realized that besides growing their businesses it is also vital to build trustworthy and sustainable relationships with the community at large. CSR is not a new concept in India. Corporate like the Tata Group, the Aditya Birla Group, and Indian Oil Corporation, to name a few, have been involved in serving the community ever since their inception. Many other organizations have been doing their part for the society through donations and charity events generally termed as philanthropy. Today, CSR in India has gone beyond merely charity and donations, and is approached in a more organized fashion. It has become an integral part of the corporate strategy. Companies have CSR teams that devise specific policies, strategies and goals for their CSR programs and set aside budgets to support them. CSR Programs ranges from overall development of a community to supporting specific causes like education, environment, healthcare etc. Government of India View on CSR Government of India has taken a lot of initiatives for upholding CSR values among which lies the famous COMPANIES BILL 2001 which mandated strict expenditure and disclosure guidelines for CSR activities of companies. The Bill makes disclosure of CSR spend mandatory for companies with a net worth of Rs 500 crore or more, or turnover of Rs 1,000 crore or more, or a net profit of Rs 5 crore or more during any fiscal. It asks these companies to earmark two per cent of their three years average profit for CSR and isclose the manner in which it was carried out.

ENVIRONMENT
Majority of corporate are taking over this issue seriously, as enough damage is being done by manufacturing units which is due affecting our ecological balance, our climate and worst polluting our environment and creating a lot of trouble for us. Steps Taken
Manufacturing units are now being converted into international standards so as to emit less harmful particles and constant research is being taken up spending is done on new ideas . Most of the corporate are now conducting seminars to let people know about the importance of environment Planting trees and celebrating environment day has been carried out Helping farmers for agriculture Applauding and providing certificates and monetary assistance to locals NGO for being forward and concerned about environments.
HEALTH It has been a rather huge agenda for corporate be it the health of their work force or their families corporate are now steeping in for helping the un reached and going for community works to help the needy and down trodden by availing them better medical facilities Corporate are indulging health workers to assist remote peoples in their health issues They are opening various hospitals to treat them Free treatment and medicine is also on top priority Many operations are being performed by team of doctors for free and continuous monitoring is done post- operation Special care has been taken for educating peoples about health related issues Expecting mothers are availed with hygienic foods, medicine, check up and made to understand the needs of their body and try to eradicate misconcepts Elderly and children are being provided with free operations and regular check up.
Physically challenged are provide with artificial limbs etc as per their body requirements so as to cope up with the society and be independent.
Sanitation has been given due importance while providing from clean safe drinking water proper sanitation methods are being spread out . Toilets are being made in near about most of rural areas Clean water being provided by water tankers Proper drainage system being built in rural areas Wells and hand pumps being dug Ponds being dug out so as to asses them with bathing option Peoples being taught about good sanitation habits their requirements and filling up stagnant water logged areas.
NATURAL CALAMITY No one has control over natural calamities like flood, earth quake .. Corporate are trying their best to help affected by providing them with their helping hands in terms of monetary issues, food , medicines .. Major work has been done in these un avoidable issues by corporate Good amount of money are donated to relief funds for seeking relief to the affected Food, medicine, clothes, shelter are provided to the affected Corporate are funding for mending the affected houses and providing with work force Clean water is provided to stop epidemic diseases
Roads are built over again to make the lifes normal Most importantly creating shelter homes in rural homes so they can keep themselves safe if they are caught in natures fury again
Canals are dug to bring water to dry land so as to help farmers in their agricultural activities
Education
Education has been an important aspect of human civilization. Corporate are carrying on the mission education mission with their filled heart. Mission education has been successful in most rural areas; education has been creating a whole new revolution in India. Corporate are building up schools Providing schools with basic amenities like tables chairs etc Providing free education in rural areas Appointing teachers in these schools Providing scholarship to the talented and needed for higher education Providing scholarship to the toppers so to create very competitive atmosphere in schools Opening up technical centers like ITI so as to enhance students employability.
OBJECTIVE
The main objective of CSR policy is to lay down guidelines for CORPORATE to make CSR a key business process for sustainable development of the Society. It aims at supplementing the role of the Govt. in enhancing welfare measures of the society based on the immediate short term and long term and environmental consequences of their activities.

Every year, Indian Oil sets aside a fixed portion of its profits for spreading smiles in millions of lives across the country through a comprehensive community welfare and development programme. About one-fourth of the community development funds are spent on the welfare of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe beneficiaries.

The Indian Oil Foundation (IOF), a non-profit Trust was created in 2000 to protect, preserve and promote the National Heritage, in collaboration with ASI and NCF of the Government of India.The following sites have been identified for developing tourist friendly facilities in the monument complex:
Konark Sun Temple, Odisha in Eastern Zone Vaishali, Bihar in Eastern Zone Kanheri Caves, Maharashtra in Western Zone Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh in Central Zone Warangal Fort, Andhra Pradesh in Southern Zone The Corporation also supports a variety of endeavors in arts, culture, music and dance, apart from organizing programmes on its own under the banners of Indian Oil Art Exhibition, Indian Oil Sangeet Sabha and Indian Oil Kavi Sammelan.

Indian Oil Educational Scholarship Schemes: Indian Oil awards scholarships to meritorious students pursuing full-time courses in 10+/ITI Engineering/Medical and Business Administration
To nurture and support talent among the deserving students belonging to families with less than rupees one lakh as the gross joint annual income. The whole Scheme for awarding Scholarships is meant for deserving extremely poor and downtrodden children.
Indian Oil Sports Scholarship Scheme: Indian Oil awards Sports Scholarship to promising young sports persons representing State in team games and on National ranking in others. The Sports Scholarship Scheme awards 150 for 10 games/sports (Cricket, Table Tennis, Badminton, Tennis, Chess, Hockey, Golf, Billiards/Snooker, Carrom and Athletics) to upcoming junior players in the age groups up to 19 years. The scholarship amount varies from Rs.9000/-p.m. to Rs.14000/- p.m. based on the performance of the scholar for 3 years in addition to kit items. The Corporation also provides assistance towards travel and lodging etc. for scholars in individual games. Assam Oil School of Nursing, AOD, Digboi: Assam Oil School of Nursing, established in the year 1986, offers a three year diploma course in General Nursing and Midwifery, recognized by the Indian Nursing Council, where local girls are trained to be professional nurses. 20 Students per year are awarded Diploma by the Nursing School and till date over 294 girls have obtained diploma in Nursing and Midwifery courses. The entire cost of training is borne by the Corporation and the students are also paid a monthly stipend during their training. SANITAION/COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT The Community Development Programme adopts a multi-disciplinary approach incorporating health, family welfare, education, drinking water and sanitation, empowerment of women and other marginalized groups in the vicinity of our major installations. While utilizing the Community Development Funds, more emphasis is laid on the projects for providing Clean Drinking Water, Health & Medical Care and Education. Providing Clean Drinking Water: Installation of hand pumps/bore well/tube wells/submersible pumps, construction of elevated water tanks, providing water tap connection, rainwater harvesting projects/kits, aqua guard water purifiers/water coolers to schools/community center etc.
HEALTH & MEDICAL CARE Organizing Medical/Health Camps on Family Planning, Immunization, AIDS awareness, Pulse Polio, Eye, Blood Donation, Pre and Post-natal Care, Homeopathic Medicine etc., providing anti-mosquito fogging treatment, toilets, medicines to primary health centers, mosquito nets, ambulances to Medical Centers/Hospitals/NGOs, hearing aids/wheel chairs to physically challenged, financial assistance to hospitals, medical equipments etc. 50 Bed Swarna Jayanti Samudaik Hospital, Raunchi Bangar, Mathura: Indian Oil has set up a 50 bed Swarna Jayanti Samudaik Hospital, at village Raunchi Bangar, Mathura, Uttar Pradesh for providing medical assistance to the residents of the area. Two mobile dispensaries have been set up by Mathura Refinery to provide primary medical care in the nearby villages of Mathura Refinery. The entire cost of operation and maintenance of hospital including operation of two mobile dispensaries is borne by the Corporation. The hospital provides free treatment to destitute and offers subsidized treatment to others. 200 bed hospital set up by Assam Oil Division, IOCL at Digboi, Assam: Indian Oil has set up and runs a 200 bed hospital at Digboi with ultramodern medical facilities for the benefit of the people of the area. The hospital doctors along with paramedical staff also visit the nearby villages for providing health care services to the villagers. The medical care services provided by the hospital are heavily subsidized. Kisan Seva Kendra is an award-winning retail outlet model pioneered by Indian Oil to cater to the needs of customers in the rural segment. Under the Indian Oil Rural Mobile HealthCare Scheme, mobile medical units with a dedicated team of doctor, pharmacist, community worker and driver would travel amongst the villages near a Kisan Seva Kendra as per a fixed schedule providing primary healthcare to the local community.
ENVIRONMENT
As an active partner of the Global Compact Programme of the United Nations, Indian Oil is fully focused on sustainable development. As a dominant player, the Corporation recognizes protection of environment as a core commitment of its business. All Indian Oil refineries fully comply with the prescribed environmental standards and incorporate state-of-the-art effluent treatment technologies. Sustained efforts are being made to further improve the standards by introducing new state-of-the-art technologies further improve the existing standards and facilities. The environment management systems of all Indian Oil refineries, pipeline Installations and major marketing installations/terminals are certified to ISO-14001 standards. Most Indian Oil refineries have commissioned secondary processing units for improving fuel quality and reducing emissions . Sulphur recovery units have been installed at all the refineries. Indian Oil has invested about Rs. 7,000 crore so far in green fuel projects at its refineries; ongoing projects account for a further Rs. 5,000 crore The R&D Centre of IndianOil is engaged in the formulations of ecofriendly biodegradable lube formulations. Unleaded Motor Sprit (petrol or Gasoline) was made available all over the country since February 1, 2000. Green fuels (petrol and diesel) conforming to Euro-III emission norms have already been introduced in 13 cities/states; the rest of the country is getting BS-II fuels. Indian Oil is fully geared to meet the target of reaching EURO-III compliant fuels to all parts of the country by the year 2010; major cities will upgrade to Euro-IV compliant fuels by that time.

JINDAL STEEL AND POWER ABOUT Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) is one of India's major steel producers with a significant presence in sectors like Mining, Power Generation and Infrastructure. It is consistently tapping new opportunities by increasing production capacity, diversifying investments, and leveraging its core capabilities to venture into new businesses JSPL operates the largest coal - based sponge iron plant in the world and has an installed capacity of 3 MTPA of steel at Raigarh in Chhattisgarh. With a 0.6 MTPA wire rod mill and a one million tone capacity bar mill at Patratu, Jharkhand, a medium and light structural mill at Raigarh, Chhattisgarh and a plate mill to produce up to 5.00 meter wide plates at Angul, Odisha. The company aims for a fast-paced growth so as to contribute substantially to India's long term prosperity.

EDUCATION JSPL aims to nurture young minds and educate them, so that they contribute to the nations development. A number of initiatives have been undertaken in this respect and some of the important benchmarks achieved are:
Vocational Training
JSPL supports self-help groups for imparting vocational training in tailoring & embroidery in order to empower women from the weaker sections of the society. The staff, material cost, and other infrastructure are borne by JSPL. JSPL, Patratu is imparting a beautician course for females, having already trained more than 70. It is also conducting mushroom cultivation training for self-help groups. IT Certificate Course
Exclusively for tribal and marginalized girls belonging to poor families in the remote village of Kunjimora. A computer course of duration of 3/6 weeks has been conducted here after setting up a computer lab in the school in the village.
Instructors and teachers have been outsourced from registered and accredited LCC institutes.
More than 200 girls have undergone this course and more are expected to join. This initiative is the first of its kind in the area, which has been well received.
To make up for the deficiency of teachers in government primary, middle & secondary schools in rural areas, 60 teachers have been selected from the local youth to augment the staff strength in various schools. This has not only enabled 10,000 students to upgrade their standard of education, but also generated employment opportunities for the local youth. JSPL has undertaken the following measures to upgrade the facilities in the schools of the adopted villages at Raigarh & Patratu Construction of additional class-rooms, toilets, sheds etc. Installation of computers and distribution of furniture to various schools. Arrangement of training classes for teachers and principals. Appointment of teachers on contract basis.
School
O. P. Jindal School-A 10+2 co-educational school with all modern facilities at Raigarh. The oldest girl's school in the region (Raigarh) has also been renovated to offer better standard of education and facilities. Upgraded school infrastructure and distributed books and other educational materials in schools at Angul and other parts of Odisha, Patratu (Jharkhand) & Raigarh (Chhattisgarh). Established Adult Education Centers in Angul, Patratu & Raigarh O.P. Jindal Community College
The establishment of O.P. Jindal Community College (OPJCC) in 2011 to educate and train a "skilled workforce who make the products and services of industry as per international standards." The college enrolls all literate students, including school dropouts. Over 37 technical vocational programmes are offered on five campuses located in Angul and Barbil (Odisha), Godda and Patratu (Jharkhand), and Punjipathra (Chhattisgarh).
OPJCC also operates four Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) that have been adopted under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Scheme of the Government of India.
OPJCC emphasizes employability as well as educational and economic mobility. Vocational training programmes prepare students for employment, entrepreneurship, and further studies.
HEALTH Hospitals To make medical facilities available to the common man, JSPL has set up many charitable clinics and hospitals in the Raigarh district. An ICU unit at the general hospital at Raigarh has been set up. World-class health facilities are provided to the people of Raigarh at the 100-bed multi-specialty O. P. Jindal Hospital & Research Centre.
Health Camps Regular and integrated medical camps with super specialist doctors from eminent hospitals have benefited more than 40,000 people in the district. Women welfare programs are also organized regularly. Regular village medical camps are organised through mobile medical van services with specialist doctors in Patratu, Angul and Raigarh. Camps for disabled persons Special camps are organized for serving and assisting disabled persons of the society. Assistive equipment such as tricycles, wheel-chairs, crutches, hearing aids, etc are distributed in these camps. Persons with cleft lip/palate are identified and referred for surgery at Raipur
Family Welfare Camps JSPL has been organizing family planning camps in the region since 1996. This initiative has resulted in bringing couples under family welfare coverage and has ensured
better health for the women and also contributed in controlling infant mortality rate in the community.
Eye Camps Leading surgeons from all over India are invited for conducting cataract and lens implantation surgery as Cataract and other ophthalmic disorders are very common in the district of Raigarh. Clean Drinking Water Safe potable water is scarce and in many areas humans and cattle share the same source of water. JSPL took the initiative and installed water and hand pumps in the adopted villages. Till now, 45 pumps have been installed in the area. For the supply of clean drinking water, non-functional hand-pumps have been repaired in all villages of the operational area and follow-up is done regularly by CSR team members.
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT/SANITATION JSPL has undertaken the responsibility of infrastructure up gradation in the villages through the following activities: Construction of approach roads. Construction of water tanks. Construction of drains. Repair and deepening of village ponds.
Apart from these, JSPL has developed the Kamla Nehru Park and a unique musical fountain in the city that provides leisure, recreation and entertainment to the citizens of Raigarh. The company has been providing all possible support to the state & district games association for promoting sports
Animal Husbandry
Farm animals in the areas of Raigarh, Patratu and Angul are checked from time to time and facilities such as de-worming, vitamins supplementation, vaccination, de-horning, etc. are done.
Established by the Red Cross Society and the social welfare department, the Old Age Home at Raigarh is home to 38 senior citizens. JSPL took upon the responsibility of maintaining this Old Age Home by establishing medical examination facilities, hospital and isolation ward and first aid center, developing land for a nursery and kitchen and installing hand pumps. Most people in the villages in and around Patratu lack basic food and nutrition. To address this, JSPL has made model kitchen gardens for providing vegetables to families. The company has aided mushroom cultivation in pockets, helping in income generation of the people here.
