PANTALONES 2nd MOVE OF 8


Pantalone hides his very expensive coin under a rock (he explains this to audience). 1. Step to the right 2. Lunge with right foot forward 3. Head forward 4. Right hand twirls above eyes like salute 5. Noisy breath in (shocked) 6. Step back to standing position 7. I cant believe he just took that whilst shaking right hand like a fist 8. Mutters whilst rubbing hands together

THE COIN LAZZO


Pantalone move of 8 as he hears someone coming. Pantalone hides his very expensive coin under a rock (he explains this to audience). Pantalone hides behind an object. Arlecchino enters and somehow notices rock and discovers the coin. Pantalone move of 8 I cant believe he just took that! Impro scene between the two characters. Comical end to routine i.e Arlecchino gets Pantalone to go after a lady and forget coin, Arlecchino runs off with coin, Arlecchino shows magic trick and makes coin disappear or your own ending. USE ANY OF THE 4 CHARACTERS

Arlechinno - A low status servant. Arlechinno is hyper-active and a prankster who is constantly becoming carried away with the moment he is in. Because of this he can appear to be foolish but has the ability to outwit everyone else.

THE LOOK
Stand in neutral position with your head facing the floor. The teacher will call out a word, when this happens bring your face up sharply to face the audience with the appropriate word on your face. i.e Come back Sad or Come back worried. Remember to use your mouth as much as possible.

HARLEQUIN KNEES BEND


Stand with the feet fairly wide apart and turned out. Take approx 2 seconds for each count. Count 1. Bend the knees slightly (ballet demi plie) Count 2. Increase the bend. Count 3. Increase the bend more (ballet grande plie) Count 4. Straighten the knees, back to original position. On the first of the bends assume an expression of irritation or annoyance, which increases on each bend. Go to deadpan on the rise.

HARLEQUIN SUPRISED
Stand with feet apart and turned out. Arms by the sides. Count 1. Raise the shoulders. Mime: sudden surprise (jaw drops) Count 2. Sudden drop into full knees bend (I dont believe it). Count 3. Sharply drop shoulders (mildly aggressive). Count 4. Slowly straighten the knees, and at the same time wobble the head from side to side (look of nonchalance: See if I care!).

Remember Remember!
Take a few minutes to remember all the different walks and skills we have explored with Arlecchino today. He takes in the audience. Remember to look at the audience at times. He is low status He is silly...but fun!

We are about to learn a move of 8, the beginning of an improvised scene which we will add to each weekso pay attention! As Pantalone you enter stage 1. Look to the right 2. Return head to centre 3. Lunge diagionally to the right on right leg 4. Extend neck and head 5. Twirl right hand up and hold your right ear out 6. Say Did you hear that? Someones coming 7. Hands down, pull back head and neck 8. Pull right leg back, returning to a standing position Pantalone hides his very expensive coin under a rock (he explains this to audience). When the coin is hidden, Pantalone is to hide behind an invisible tree.

THE STOCK CHARACTERS


The Characters 1) Arlechinno - A low status servant. Arlechinno is hyper-active and a prankster who is constantly becoming carried away with the moment he is in. Because of this he can appear to be foolish but has the ability to outwit everyone else. 2) Pantalone - An old miser. Pantalone is a patriarch/matriarch character who is extremely wealthy and powerful. A hypochondriac who is always desiring to become more rich and powerful. 3) Dottore - The Doctor. An old, pompous windbag who's treatments are often worse than the condition. Loves to lecture and expound without making any sense. 4) Capitano - A Military figure. Arrogant and over-bearing but really an inept coward at heart. 5) Brighella - A low or mid status servant. Big, strong, and loves to eat. He can either be played crafty or dim witted. A regular servant in low status or a foreman character in mid status, however in both cases he is often out for himself and will try to get something for himself out of every situation. 6) Tartaglia - A low status servant or in some cases an accountant or lawyer. (White collar worker.) Although he can be very eloquent when alone, he is a nervous wreck in the company of other people. 7) Isabella - One of the lovers. Often the daughter to Pantalone. She is romantic and can be naive but as the daughter of Pantalone can also be just as self-absorbed and deceitful as he. 8) Columbina - Low status servant. She is a flirt and very intelligent. She is often the love interest of Arlechinno. 9) Lelio - One of the lovers. He is a perfect counterpart to Isabella. He can be the son of one of Pantalone's rivals, someone who Pantalone does not approve of, or Pantalone's son.
