Zone Control Chart File

User Instructions (Reference CPI Useful Methods No. 210) This file can be used to generate various sizes of Zone Control Charts. To use: 1 Copy/Paste your data into columns A & B of the Data Page. 2 Enter Target and 1 sigma limit into the red input boxes. 3 Press the "Update Zone Charts" button (below). 4 View the desired Zone Chart. Make any formatting changes necessary. 5 To generate a blank zone chart for hand entry, go to "Zone Chart" tab. 6 Press the Printer icon in the Menu bar on any page, to print chart.

Zone Chart Rules

1 Plot points by drawing a circle in the appropriate zone rather than by plotting points at an exact location on the chart. 2 Assign each circle with the appropriate zone box score. 3 With consecutive points that fall on the same side of the centerline, enter the cumulative score inside the circle. 4 Continue the cumulative procedure until a result falls on the opposite side of the line. At that point, the score accumulation ends and a new score begins. 5 If a value falls exactly on the centerline, its score is zero and the previous cumulative score is recorded and maintained. Plot this point directly on the centerline. 6 If a value falls exactly on one of the other zone lines, use the lowest zone score. 7 A cumulative score of 8 or more is a signal that the process average has shifted and is "out of control". A special cause exists. Action should be taken. 8 Record action taken below chart. Following corrective action, the scoring process begins anew. Scoring also begins anew if the process is restarted after a shutdown.
