Hosted annually at several venues in Orange County, this years festival screened more than 400 lms from 50 different countries. This weeklong event of lm screenings and after-parties began on Thursday, April 26, and ended Thursday, May 3.

On opening night, the NBFF presented the world premiere of the lm Jewtopia at the Big Newport Theatre in Fashion Island. Spotlight events for Friday and Saturday evening included multiple breakthrough lms, as well as a series of after parties, notably Saturdays festivities at the Equinox, which included Jack Mack and the Heart Attacks performing 80s hits.

Tuesday night was a big night for the cast and crew of Songs for Amy, who ew out from Ireland to attend the Irish Spotlight event for the European Showcase. After the screening, the night ended with a celebration at Muldoons Irish Pub.

Filmgoers who attended the French, Italian, or Swedish screenings for the European Showcase entered a packed after-party at Fashion Island.

Festival attendee and coordinator Natasha Nowakowski not only helped host the afterparty but was able to enjoy some of its perks.

I found the photo booth to be a great cherry on top for the European Showcase, as everyone was able to be silly if just for a moment, Nowakowski said. Everyone was there for a good time and brought a delightful energy to the whole event.

Closing night included two sold-out screenings of Shanghai Calling, at the Lido Theatre and at the Big Newport in Fashion Island. At least 1,500 people saw the lm and joined the after-party.

In the end, the festival hosted more than 50,000 attendees, and co-founder and CEO of the NBFF Gregg Schwenk continues to build on the success of the festival each year.

We bring the best in classic and contemporary lmmaking, Schwenk said. The most exciting part of the lm festival is the ability to interact with the people in front of and behind the camera.

February 1, 2012 Charles Osgood CBS News Sunday Morning 524 West 57th St. New York, NY 10019 Dear Mr. Osgood: As a representative of the Newport Beach Film Festival, I am writing to you to express my interest to have our nonprot organization presented on your morning news program. Your broadcast of CBS News Sunday Morning attracts audiences with specialty headline and feature stories on the arts, so I think your audiences would benet from watching a segment on the Newport Beach Film Festival. For the April 1, 2012, edition of CBS News Sunday Morning, your viewers can enjoy an insight into the festival, the lms, the attendees, and the celebrations. During the ve to seven-minute news feature segment, one of your correspondents, either Rita Braver or Tracy Smith, can do a sit-down interview with the festivals CEO and Executive Director Gregg Schwenk who will discuss the festivals background and purpose. In addition to the interview, the segment can also include a virtual tour of the organizations ofces, interviews with employees, volunteers and sponsors, as well as footage from the premiere parties and red carpet events from previous years. The end of the segment could include a call to action as tickets go on sale that Sunday. On two separate occasions Gregg will be available for 1-2 hours for the interview, as well as being available to take the camera crew to his ofces. The crew can lm freely, and the interviewer has access to all employees and volunteers working that day. As for the lm locations and post celebration sites, we will provide a b-roll from previous years. If you would like to interview representatives from the lms being showcased at this years festival, we will need to discuss that in further detail. It was a pleasure sharing my plan with you, and I hope we can expand on this idea in the near future. Expect a call from me by the end of next week, because I would like to set up a time to meet in person. Thank you so much for your consideration, and I look forward to working with you. A BUSTLING DAY IN THE LIFE OF A NEWPORT BEACH FILM FESTIVAL COORDINATOR NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. Its 8 a.m. on Tuesday, May 1, which means the European Showcase for the Newport Beach Film Festival begins in the next 12 hours. Christina Brown, the lead coordinator for the French Spotlight (NBFF), is stressing to nalize. Her rst priority is reviewing the site plans for the after-party at Fashion Island. When everything feels in place, Christina calls Glase Lomond, the senior producer for event production at the NBFF. Glase has been vital in organizing the set-up for the party. Later that morning Christina heads over to the NBFF ofces to pick up all the production passes for the vendors attending the party. From then on, Christina focuses her time calling all the necessary and important people participating in the production of the event. She calls the orist, the baker, the photographer, and her team members. -more-

A Day in the Life Page 2 When everything that can be done, has been done, its only early afternoon and Christina still has three and a half more hours before she needs to arrive at the screening site at the Big Newport Theatre in Fashion Island. It was the eye before the storm, Christina said. At 6 p.m., Christina met with her team to scope the site, reviewing the shot list with her photographer, and going over last minute details with the CEO and Executive Director of the NBFF, Gregg Schwenk. Gregg is also Christinas event planning professor at Cal State Fullerton. In the middle of setting up the programs, brochures, and magazines for guests that enter the screening of The Day I Saw Your Heart, Christina receives a call from the orist. The orist has dropped off all the ower arrangements for the party in the center of Fashion Island. Rushing to the site to make sure the owers are accounted for, Christina asks HagenDazs to hold onto the arrangements until her team returns from the screening. Christina returns to the theatre just in time to greet guests, supporters, partners, and sponsors, and now the event is underway. -more-

A Day in the Life Page 3 Since the end of last August, Christina has been working hard to organize the French Spotlight and now her moment is nally here. After all the attendees are sitting in their seats, and Christina addresses the crowd to thank everyone for coming to the event. I was so happy to see the turn out for our lm, and the feedback from the audience about the lm was amazing, Christina said. But the night still isnt over. When the lights dim, and the audience eagerly awaits the screening of the lm, Christina and her team head over to the after-party site to set-up. Red and yellow ower arrangements are set on table tops, macrons and cupcakes are delivered, a photo booth is set-up, and DJs begin to blast fast-paced music. Then oods of guests begin to pour into the party. Christina is no longer worried or stressed because she feels that the event itself, owed really nicely, and the turn-out was amazing. It was an amazing accomplishment, Christina said. And once I felt relaxed, I decided to support one of our title sponsors Absolut Vodka. ###
