The Godoy family is a extended patriarchal family composed of 15 members. The family is headed by Mr. Arvin Godoy, 24 yrs. old who lives with his mother, siblings, stepfather, uncle, auntie, cousins, brother in law and niece. The family is currently residing at Dolmar Golden Hills Subdivision Caloocan City. The primary dialect spoken inside and outside their house is Tagalog. They lived in that house for more than 10 years now. They said that they own the house but they didnt own the lot. They dont know who owns the lot. Mark Joseph and Maria Teresa practice the common law for 5 years now. Both of them love and respect each other. Both come from traditional families where the husband is the dominant authority figure and the parents are accorded unquestioned respect and obedience. However, on major matters affecting the family welfare, both of them make joint decisions. Major money matters, belong to Mark Joseph while routine household and minor health matters are left to the discretion of Maria Teresa. Maam Teresita, Maria Teresas widowed mother, along with her new spouse and 5 other children, stay with the family. She helps run the household and take care of the children. The family established a smooth relationship with each other and the client and her husband spent lots of time dealing with their daughter. The members of the family have an open communication with each other. The client has pointed out some usual problems that arise in the family such as money and the attitude of her husband. The father is the breadwinner in the family and is currently working in different areas in the region as a globeline cable operator. He is earning 275 pesos per day and is working for 3 days in a week. The mother, on
the other hand is a plain housewife who takes care of their children and do all the household chores. She is also the one who budgets their expenses for a week and a lot most of their money for foods. Other expenditures would be for water bill which cost 150 pesos per week and some for their clothing. They dont have electricity in their house and instead, they use candle as a source of their light. Our client says that sometimes, they experienced problem on financial matters especially for their food expenses and it is her duty to budget their money for their weekly expenses but when they are really in need, they ask help from his neighbors. Our client is had finished her Grade 5 and considered as an elementary undergraduate while her husband is a highschool undergraduate. Both of them didnt continue their studies. All of the members of the household are Roman Catholic. The family relates well with their neighbors and is actively involved in community. When there are programs launched by the community, they cooperate well and sometimes join some activities of the barangay. One of the most frequent programs that they are utilizing is the health care benefits of their barangay.
