Responsibilities:
The Development and Outreach Department in the Geneva Office of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking an intern to support the work of the Development team. The intern will be responsible for supporting the team in the organization of the HRWs Voices for Justice Geneva Annual Dinner 2013, our main fundraising event. S/he will also support the activities of the Geneva Committee, an international membership group that seeks to increase awareness of human rights issues and build financial support for HRW. The intern will conduct all preparation for Committee meetings, assist in donor follow-up and regularly occurring Committee events. The intern will be an active member of HRW's Development and Outreach department, working closely with other staff members to identify and create opportunities for donor involvement in HRW by keeping existing and prospective supporters informed of our work. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Assisting on all event logistics, with a focus on our upcoming Geneva Annual Dinner Maintaining donor information on our fundraising database, the Raisers Edge Researching new donors and foundation prospects to the organization Servicing donor prospects through material compilation and communications Drafting correspondence and advocacy materials for Committee members Liaising with event and Geneva office vendors Preparing briefing papers, mailings, acknowledgments & other membership support services Responding to requests for information and supervise the distribution of publications and other documents Carrying out other duties as required, including but not limited to: taking minutes at meetings, drafting and editing correspondence and other documents, word processing, photocopying, filing, faxing, answering phones and processing incoming mail

Qualifications:
A bachelors degree in international relations, journalism, social sciences or related studies is required. Strong oral and written communications skills in both French and English are required, as well as computer skills (Microsoft Office suite and the Internet). The successful applicant will be a disciplined self-starter who can work independently but also function as a member of a team. S/he will have a demonstrated commitment to human rights and/or international issues and the ability to master and represent well the mission and program of HRW. The intern will be expected to commit for a minimum of three months renewable period. 60% to 100%, flexible working hours.

Benefits:
HRW pays the transport and lunch compensation. This internship is an unpaid position. However, engaging with HRW provides a unique opportunity to learn about a major international organization from the inside. The intern will have access to a vast network of human rights professionals and be invited to attend substantive meetings and briefings on the organizations work.
