COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course covers the basic principles of effective speech communication such as
pronunciation, articulation, enunciation, intonation, and vocal flexibility. Listening focuses on
comprehension of oral instructions and questions in a series, of vocabulary in context, and of
main ideas and details in sentences, monologues, dialogs and speeches. It also includes
theories, mechanics, and techniques of speech composition and delivery with emphasis on
practical speaking experiences and awareness of audience psychology that will be used in
any varied speech situations.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the end of the semester, the student should be able to:
express ideas, feelings, and emotions clearly and effectively.
become critical of everyday speaking experiences and capable of coping with
communication problems at all levels.
manifest efficiency in active and critical listening.
speak with confidence using any or all methods of delivery in varied functions and
occasions..
train in the effective use of thought, verbal and non-verbal symbols towards ethical
speech communication.
advocate freedom of expression and free speech with a keen sense of responsibility and
high ethical standards.
equip with basic rules and strategies in Formal Public Speaking.
apply acquired knowledge in speaking, both in small group communication and Formal
Public Speaking.
