The friend's 10-year-old son wants a cell phone to text his friends but the friend thinks it will distract him at school and hurt his grades. Two possible solutions are: 1. Letting him message friends on the home computer which has disadvantages of needing supervision and keeping others from computer use. 2. Making him wait until age 12 for a cell phone which has the disadvantage of him feeling left out and not liking school. The friend asks for advice on the best solution and to explain why the other solution was not chosen.
