Chapter 6 Coordinate Geometry

1. The document discusses topics in coordinate geometry, including: - Finding the coordinates of points on a parallelogram given some points' coordinates - Finding the equation of lines and loci (paths) of moving points - Calculating areas of shapes defined by points with given coordinates 2. Examples include finding the equation of a circle locus for a moving point, determining if a locus intersects an axis, and calculating the area of a trapezium where some points' coordinates are provided. 3. Solutions are provided for coordinate geometry word problems involving finding equations, points, and geometric measurements.

3.

Point R moves along the circumference of a circle, with centre M(1, 3). The circumference of the circle passes through points A(3, 0) and B(4,k). (a) Find (i) the equation of the locus of the point R, (ii) the values of k. (b) The tangent to the circle at the point A cuts the y -axis at point C. Find the area of the triangle OAC.

4.

A point Q moves in such a way that its distance from the point T(2, 3) is twice its distance from the point S(0, 3). (a) Find the equation of the locus of point Q. (b) Hence, determine whether the locus of point Q intersects the x-axis or not.

5.

The diagram below shows a trapezium ABCD. The straight line AB is parallel to the straight line CD. The straight line AB is perpendicular to the straight line BC. The coordinates of the points A, B and D are (2, 3), (4, 9) and (6, 5) respectively.
