Pasolink NMS
Pasolink NMS
The PASOLINK Network Management System (PNMS) is designed to bring comprehensive, easy-touse and cost-effective management to the integrated microwave network environment. A userfriendly graphical interface together with a set of integrated tools enable the network operators to + remotely monitor and control the status and configuration of the entire PASOLINK and PASOLINK network. This UNIX based system also provides monitoring of the live microwave link performance, easy viewing of various radio parameters, and advanced alarm management.
Standard Platform
For ease of operation and maintainability, the UNIX operating system is employed as the platform for the central management software (PNMS) and Windows 2000/NT/98/95 operating system is the platform for the software at the NE site (PNMT).
Remote Access
Whether at the central or a remote site, access to any network element (NE) in the network is seamlessly connected through one of the service channels.
SYSTEM OVERVIEW
The PASOLINK Network Management System comprises three elements, a high performance computer with peripheral equipment, a software package called PASOLINK Network management system (PNMS) and PASOLINK Management Card (PM CARD, only for PASOLINK) to be equipped in the PASOLINK equipment. The PNMS is located at a central or a regional operation center and enables network operators to + monitor and control the PASOLINK / PASOLINK network and its elements remotely. Alternatively, a laptop computer with simplified software package, called PASOLINK Network Management Terminal (PNMT) is available for maintenance purpose. A PASOLINK/PASOLINK NE at the central site interfaces with the PNMS through one of the following interfaces. - PASOLINK : RS232C 19.2/9.6kbps, Async (through Router) + - PASOLINK :10BASE-T(LAN) or V.11 19.2kbps, Async (through Router) Communication to the Remote PASOLINK/ PASOLINK is established through one of the digital service channels in the network.

KEY COMPONENTS
PNMS
Sun Workstation with its peripheral equipment and UNIX operating system is used to support PNMS software. It provides a central access point to monitor and control the entire network remotely. The PNMS software provides map viewing of the entire network as well as its individual subnetworks. The PNMS provides means to edit, upload, and download the configuration files to each of the + PASOLINK / PASOLINK network elements. Multi-level access privileges are implemented to ensure the security of the system. PNMT A mobile terminal such as of a laptop PC running Windows 2000/NT/98/95 Operating system containing a simplified version of the PASOLINK Network Management software called PNMT, is provided for maintenance purpose. This configuration can monitor and control a + single PASOLINK / PASOLINK link at a time. Any link through the network, connected via digital service channel, can be monitored and controlled remotely from the laptop.

Remote Control
The PNMS software provides remote control of various link related parameters such as transmit power and frequency allocation.
Auxiliary Input/Output
Six photo-coupler input ports and four relay output ports are available in the PASOLINK / + PASOLINK equipment to allow monitoring and controlling of the miscellaneous equipment at site. PASOLINK Link Summary window (reference only) The types of alarm and control for these ports can be defined freely by the operator.
Events occurring in the operation of the network and the management system are stored automatically and displayed in the event logging window. The following events are logged: - Status change - Alarm occurrence - Alarm recovery - Control initiation - Parameter change
The events to be logged can be filtered in accordance with some specified events and a specified period. Filtering options include + PASOLINK / PASOLINK equipment, status, and items.
Alarm Management
Two alarm logging windows are provided. One is a list of all active alarms in the network and the other, a list of recent alarm occurrence and recovery. The alarms to be logged can be filtered in accordance with some specified events and a specified period. Filtering options include + PASOLINK / PASOLINK equipment, status, and items.
Security
PASOLINK Network Management System employs high security measure to protect the network and network management system from unauthorized access. Ten levels of user privileges are defined. The highest level is the administrator level which assigns the full access to the network and network management system and has the ability to create and assign privileges to other users. Privileges differ in the extent of access to a + certain PASOLINK / PASOLINK groups and stations and in the extent of right of control and configuration initiation. Privilege settings include: + - Monitor of individual PASOLINK/ PASOLINK - Network editing

Event Logging
Events stored in the PM CARD can be uploaded, and saved in the PNMT. The logged events are the same as those in the PNMS. Event log window (reference only)
Performance Monitoring
The PNMT displays the performance data stored in the NEs at both ends of the selected + PASOLINK / PASOLINK link. The performance parameters are the same as those in the PNMS. Thresholds can be defined in each parameter to signal an alarm when a performance objective has failed.
Security
Users are registered by means of log-in name and password.
NETWORK CONFIGURATIONS
The PNMS supports various network configurations, from a simple trunk-line network structure to complex multi-branch networks. A PNMS can control and monitor up to 10,000 NEs depending on the type of PNMS.There are 2 types of PNMS (for up to 1,000NEs and 10,000NEs) available for difference of processor performance. In addition Central/Regional NMS configuration is also available. Examples of the PNMS network configuration are shown as follow.
