Through working together, the best is yet to come www.wldps.com

Issue 8 19th June 2013

Dear Parents, MEDICINE IN SCHOOL TIME If your child needs medicine within school time and it is prescribed by your doctor, you will be required to fill out a form which is available from the school office. We would like to remind you not to send your child in with the medicine, but to bring it to the office yourself. We are not allowed to give out any medicine that is not prescribed by your doctor, however you are welcome to come in during school time to administer this to your child. HEADLICE! We are being invaded by head lice and parents are understandably frustrated when their children collect and bring them home. I would be incredibly grateful if you would all be extremely vigilant and check your childs hair in an attempt to eradicate them from our school community. I have found Hedrin to be a popular and successful treatment which can be obtained free of charge from any pharmacy using the minor ailments system. Usually, this involves one treatment, and then another a week later to ensure that all eggs are completely removed. I am afraid that there is no magic solution to this problem apart from regular checking and quick treatment when found. I have contacted the school nurse for further guidance for parents to help with this matter and it will be circulated to you as soon as possible. SPEEDMARK EVENT As part of National Sports Week next week, the children will be enjoying opportunities next week getting them involved with physical activity. Please can we ask that all children come prepared with their sports kit each day of the week. One major event will be SPEEDMARK. This is a large inflatable goal which measures the speed of a shot taken at the goal. Each class will have a competition to decide on the fastest shot. We would also like to ask all children to obtain sponsors for this event as there are great prizes to be won by SPEEDMARK for each individual amount raised. Children that are able to raise 20 upwards win differing types of footballs, football bags and packs of goodies. Children that raise 50 obtain a full set of goodies which includes two different types of training ball. All monies raised will be dedicated to improving the sports equipment within our school to make a real difference and helping our children to enjoy physical activity. This has been a very popular event in the past which can raise great levels of funding if all children get involved. Many thanks for your support! CHEERLEADING A quick reminder cheerleading stared Monday 17 this has been opened to Years 4-6 and will run for 6 weeks. This is an activity suited for boys and girls, as it requires gymnastic ability and includes exciting lifts definitely no pompoms! Places are still available, if your child is interested; please see the school office for details. A letter has also been sent out to members of Year 4 who have been invited as of this week. SCHOOL UNIFORM We seem to be collecting large quantities of uniform in this warm weather but we are unable to give it back! Please can we remind parents to label all items of school clothing carefully to ensure if it is lost we can return it to the correct child. If you wish to purchase labels to sew into the uniform, order forms are available from the school office. Also a quick reminder to order any school uniform you need now for September to ensure we can get this to you in time! As of 1 October 2013 School will no longer be selling uniform . This will be passed on to Bamber Bridge Sports which is located at Bamber Bridge Football Club. The shop will be open from 11am 5pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday..

You will still be able to purchase uniform from school until this handover. Jerseys bought in October will be slightly different as they will have a V neck collar, rather than a round collar. I would like to say that this is a minor change but a really smart one. The usual polo shirts can be worn under these V neck jerseys as normal. Irongate Ground, Brownedge Road, Bamber Bridge, PR5 6UX, 01772 321425 TEMPEST PHOTOGRAPHS Monday 20 May Tempest photography took class and group photographs. The deadline for ordering these is th Wednesday 26 June. If you order after this date you will have to send off your form at an extra cost. Feel free to come in to the office to view the sample photographs of your childs class. PTA FEEDBACK We always like to hear back from our parents how well our PTA events are going. Attached to this newsletter is a feedback form about the PTA and we invite you to complete and return this to school office. We thank you in advance th and once completed, you will be entered into a prize draw. Completed questionnaires need to be handed in by 26 June. PTA EVENT PITCH & PLAY You may be aware that we are planning an event which allows our children and parents to enjoy a camping experience on our grounds. We will be also planning some games and matches such as races, cricket, rounders and football. A refreshment caterer will be here to feed you throughout the evening and in the morning for breakfast too! Marshmallows will be toasted, hopefully to music and singing around a campfire. I would like to ask all handy dads/joiners if they would be interested in helping the school with a small project of constructing eight raised planting beds on the school field which will be most beneficial to the children when completed. If you are interested in helping us with this and could give school a little bit of your time, please come into the school office/ring us and leave your name and contact details and we will be in touch to let you know more details. I would really appreciate your help with this if you are just that little bit handy! I have had one or two replies but some more would be wonderful. This work is planned for the start of next term in September. STRIKE ACTION I am pleased to inform you that school will operate as normal on the proposed strike day (27 June). This is owing to the fact that a very minor level of action is being taken by members of the teaching staff body. LIFE EDUCATION BUS 4

JULY REMINDER OF 2 CONTRIBUTION

We would like to invite the Life Education Bus to come to our school in July. It is a mobile classroom which will be deposited on our school site for 4 days. Each child in every class will be invited to spend time with the Life Bus Teacher. It will help our children learn all manner of important issues of how to look after our bodies and the positive impact that exercise has on our bodies. It also involves making children aware of issues including looking at the risks of alcohol, smoking, drugs (all appropriate to the childrens ages!). This is a very much enjoyed resource enjoyed by children across Lancashire and helps improve all our childrens awareness of keeping their bodies safe and healthy. It

will be subsidised by the school but I would like to ask for your support in offering a 2 contribution towards the cost of this visit per family. It is worth every penny and children usually look forward to the next visit once it has gone!

Please could payments be made in a labelled envelope to the school office by Friday 21st June.
FRUIT DISTRIBUTION HELPFUL PARENTS REQUIRED! In school we have a delivery of fruit for our children in nursery to year 2. We are currently looking for a parent to distribute this in the mornings after you have dropped off your child/ren. This will take approximately 10-15 minutes. If you are interested in helping school with this please ring the office or come in and let us know. SWIMMING Well done to Lauren from Jaguar class who completed her 1 mile swim! This is the equivalent to 107 lengths of our swimming pool! ROTAKIDS DEVELOPING LINKS WITH SOUTH RIBBLE DISTRICT A small number of year 3 children will be attending the RotaKids Conference at Lancaster University on Friday 28 June. I would like to propose that the school links with a well established rotary district of South Ribble as they are keen to work with schools also. Next year all Year 4 children in September will be invited to become RotaKids and lead projects which will benefit less advantaged communities in Swaziland Africa. It is very difficult to makes links with schools in other countries, however the Rotary Club have fantastic links already established with a number of school in this region of Africa some of which are orphanages. This will then be continued the year after by asking the next Year 4 to be out next RotaKids.
