March 2011 Combat debut in Libya. The Typhoon began combat missions in Libya on 21st March 2011 as part of operation Odyssey Dawn decided by the United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1970 & 1973. The mission marked the first time the Typhoon have been deployed in enemy combat and the debut as a swing-role platform. February 2011 The RAFs Typhoon of 6 Squadron begin QRA operation at Leuchars Air Base. January 2011 The operational fleet of Eurofighter Typhoon, in service since the second half of 2003 achieved the impressive milestone of 100,000 flying hours in January 2011. A celebration was held in Hallbergmoos, Munich on the 25th January to mark the milestone. December 2010 The Eurofighter Typhoon programme delivered the 250th aircraft to the customer. IS038 was handed over to the Italian Air Force in a small ceremony at Pratica di Mare base. The 250th aircraft will join 311 squadron as part of their current duties. November 2010 The UK's Secretary of State for Defence Dr. Liam Fox visited the Eurofighter Typhoon Office in New Delhi. Bernhard Gerwert, CEO of Cassidian Air Systems and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Eurofighter GmbH briefed Dr. Liam Fox. In addition, the Supervisory Board of Eurofighter GmbH met in New Delhi for the first time. September 2010 Eurofighter Typhoon celebrated operating at an 11th Air Force base this weekend as 6 Squadron settled into their new home at RAF Leuchars in Fife, Scotland. The Squadron landed during the annual air show last weekend and will be the backbone of Britains Northern air policing Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) force, replacing the Tornado F3 of 111 Squadron. July 2010 The UKs Royal Air Force, Spanish Air Force, Italian Air Force and the German Luftwaffe began taking delivery of the advanced Helmet Mounted Symbology System (HMSS) which will form a key component of their Eurofighter Typhoon weapon systems.
Eurofighter GmbH and Euroradar, together with their industrial partners, began full scale development of a latest generation Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar on 1st July 2010. A new Italian Air Force Squadron is equipped with the Eurofighter. The X Gruppo of the Italian Air Force has become the second Italian Squadron to be equipped with the Typhoon. 300th Eurofighter wing manufactured in Spain at EADS Defence & Security's facilities in Getafe, Madrid. March 2010 The Eurofighter Typhoon successfully reached the 1,500 flying hours milestone in service with the sterreichische Luftstreitkrfte, Austrias Joint Armed Forces Command. February 2010 The Spanish Air Force reached a key milestone as their Typhoon fleet achieved 10,000 flying hours. The 10,000th hour came during a training mission of Ala 113 at the base which received its first Typhoon - or C.16 as it is known within the Ejercito de lAire - in October 2003. December 2009 A new unit receive the Typhoon. The German Air Forces Jagdbombergeschwader 31 Boelcke received its first four Eurofighter. The Eurofighter delivered to Nrvenich, in North Rhine Westphalia will replace the Tornados today in service with the Wing by the end of June 2010. November 2009 The 200th Eurofighter Typhoon produced was delivered to the German Luftwaffe. This milestone makes the Eurofighter Typhoon the only new generation multi-role aircraft to reach the impressive figure of 200 examples in service.
September 2009 The 15th and last Typhoon for Austria delivered. Italian 4th Stormo reach the 10,000 flying hour target. July 2009 The Italian Air Force 4th Stormo is the first Eurofighter flight unit to obtain a NATO operational evaluation. The Typhoons of the Gioia del Colle Air Bases 36th Stormo of Italian Air Force started their air policing task over the Albanian air space as requested by NATO. Albania, as a new NATO member lacks any asset able to perform this.
The Italian Typhoons are the first Eurofighters committed to the air policing task for nations lacking any such capability, as requested by NATO. For the first time Luftwaffes Eurofighters - Jagdgeschwader 74 Typhoons - has been on detachment to Decimomannu in Sardinia, Italy. June 2009 The first two Typhoons have been delivered to the Royal Saudi Air Force. April 2009 Gioia del Colle, Italian Air Force Base, inaugurated the first ASTA (Aircrew Synthetic Training Aids) - full Mission Simulator for the Eurofighter Typhoon. Italian Air Force achieved its 10,000th flying hour with the Eurofighter Typhoon, in service with the Grosseto and Gioia del Colle based wings. March 2009 A unique AMRAAM firing trial outside Moron Air Base in Southern Spain was successfully completed on the 31st March. The objective of the testing was to fire the AMRAAM missile from a Eurofighter Typhoon whilst its radar was in passive mode and thus invisible for Electronic Support Measures (ESM) Systems. On the 16th March, the German Air Force achieved its 10,000th flying hour, with the Eurofighter Typhoon from Fighter Wing 74 in Neuburg. February 2009 The German Airforce took three Eurofighter Typhoons to Aero India 2009, the first time the Luftwaffe have participated in an Air Show in Asia with fighter aircraft. January 2009 Italian Air Force XII Gruppo at Gioia del Colle starts Quick Reaction Alert Air Defence duties 5 January. Tranche 2 deliveries continue in 2009 with GS032 delivered to Germany on the 12th January and BS043 delivered to the UK on the 14th.
December 2008 The air force fleet in Germany, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and Austria surpassed the 50,000 flying hour mark. The second Italian Eurofighter unit, XII Gruppo, surpasses the 1,000 flying hours mark. First Tranche 2 aircraft for Germany delivered. November 2008 Eurofighter Test Fleet surpasses 6,000 Flying Hours.
In a combined effort of German Air Force, Operational Test Centre WTD 61 and EADS in-flight refuelling trials start with Airbus A310 MRTT. The Italian Air Force concludes in-flight refuelling trials with KC-130J Hercules Tankers. Two German Eurofighter Typhoon are deployed to Emmen, Switzerland, for a flying/technical evaluation. First Tranche 2 aircraft for Italy delivered. October 2008 Spain takes delivery of their first Tranche 2 aircraft SS012 on 24 October. The first aircraft for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia took off for the maiden flight at BAE Systems in Warton on 20 October. The handover of BS040 to the Royal Air Force on 10 October marks the beginning of Tranche 2 aircraft deliveries to the four partner air forces. Flight tests for the advanced capabilities covered by the Phase 1 Enhancement (P1E) programme for Eurofighter Typhoon Tranche 2 weapon systems commence 24 October 2008 with the first flight of a Paveway IV on Instrumented Production Aircraft IPA2 at Alenia Aermacchis facility in Turin, Italy. September 2008 Following the successful flight tests and the full delivery of the associated documentation, Type Acceptance for Block 8 (Tranche 2) Eurofighter Typhoon weapon systems has been agreed. Eurofighter Typhoon of Italy's 4 Stormo fly from Grosseto to Konya in Turkey for exercise "Anatolian Eagle". August 2008 Spanish Students of the Leonardo Da Vinci High School in Madrid, Spain, win the Eurofighter Typhoon Trophy in the 2008 International Aerospace Summer School. The five customer Air Forces and the industrial Flight Test programme see the Eurofighter Typhoon multi-/swing-role combat aircraft surpass the 50,000 flight hours milestone end August. July 2008 Eurofighter Typhoon begins Air Surveillance in Austria on 1 July under the leadership of the Joint Armed Forces Command, Graz, and the Air Surveillance Command, Wals, of the Austrian military. The Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Air Force, Air Chief Marshal Sir Clive Loader calls Eurofighter Typhoon the most operationally flexible aircraft it [the RAF] has ever
had at RAF Coningsby, as the United Kingdom declared their Typhoon force as multirole capable 1 July. Eurofighter Typhoon is exhibited at Farnborough. As of 17 July all five air forces operating Eurofighter Typhoon perform QRA Duty with the type with Spain joining the other four air forces. Last Tranche 1 aircraft delivered, to Austria. June 2008 The UK Ministry of Defence announces the successful completion of Eurofighter Typhoons participation in the annual Exercise Green Flag at Nellis AFB, USA. The German Air Force Fighter Wing 74 starts NATO QRA duties with Eurofighter Typhoon. May 2008 Eurofighter Typhoon is present at Internationale Luftfahrtausstellung ILA at Berlin. The RAF takes part in 'Exercise Green Flag West' at Nellis Air Base in the US, bringing seven Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft with them and dropping over 80 bombs. March 2008 For the first time, all four Eurofighter Typhoon core Air Forces from Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom take part in a mutual exercise at Morn Air Force Base, near Sevilla, on the 10 to 14 March. GT015, a German Twin-Seat aircraft, is the final aircraft out of Tranche 1 destined for the four partner Air Forces of Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom, delivered March 20, 2008. January 2008 The Second Tranche of Aircrew Synthetic Training Aids (ASTA) Programme is launched and the next batch of 15 ASTA devices can be delivered. The Eurofighter Typhoon fleet in air forces and industry logged over 35,000 flying hours by end 2007. IPA7, the first Tranche 2 aircraft, takes off for its maiden flight at EADS in Manching, Germany. December 2007 Eurofighter GmbH sign the contractual documents with BAE Systems for the supply of 72 Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
November 2007 First flight of IPA6, the first Eurofighter Typhoon to be loaded with Tranche 2 avionics, at BAE Systems Warton site, United Kingdom. The Combined Test Team, comprised of BAE Systems and Royal Air Force pilots, conduct the first laser-guided bomb drop using a Litening III Laser Designator Pod (LDP) on BT005 at the Aberporth Weapons Range, Wales. The Royal Air Force conducts the first in-service bomb drop from Eurofighter Typhoon, with laser-guidance provided by a Litening III Laser Designator Pod (LDP) on BT005. Eurojet GmbH deliver the 400th EJ200 engine. October 2007 First Tranche 2 EJ200 engine flight tested on IPA2 at Caselle, Italy. September 2007 Second Eurofighter Typhoon delivered to the Austrian Air Force base at Zeltweg. August 2007 Following the delivery of ST008 to the Spanish Air Force, EADS CASA successfully completed the handover of all Tranche 1 Eurofighter Typhoons for their national customer. July 2007 AS001 is delivered to Austrian Air Force, making Austria the fifth Nation to be operating Eurofighter Typhoon. Combined with the earlier delivery of GS024 to the German Air Force, all five Nations are operating Block 5 standard aircraft. June 2007 Eurofighter GmbH and the Austrian Government reach agreement on cost reductions for the Eurofighter Typhoon procurement, including a reduction in number of aircraft to 15. The Royal Air Force assign two Eurofighter Typhoons to 24-hour Quick Reaction Alert duties. On standby at RAF Coningsby, the aircraft are responsible for protection of Southern United Kingdom airspace. May 2007 IPA2 continues data gathering trials with the Meteor BVR missile. On completion of this Italian test campaign, the missile has flown on all six of the weapon stations where it is intended to be carried during operational service. E-Scan radar flown for the first time on Eurofighter Typhoon. DA5, flying out of Manching, is used for the test campaign which is part funded by the German Procurement Agency (BWB) through NETMA.
Eurofighter GmbH and the Norwegian Ministry of Defence sign a Co-operation Agreement worth a potential 75M over the next four years. The four Partner Air Forces achieve a combined 20,000 flight hours by the end of May. March 2007 IPA4 achieves the 5,000th flight hour on behalf of the Flight Test fleet. A new campaign of Meteor testing begins at EADS CASA, Spain, with IPA4, with the missile flown on the front and rear fuselage stations investigating how it responds in the vibration, load and temperature environments. First flight of the first export Eurofighter Typhoon. AS001, bound for the Austrian Air Force, took off from EADS Military Air Systems Manching facility on 21 March. NETMA and Eurofighter GmbH sign the First Batch of Enhancements for the Eurofighter contract on 30 March, extending the capabilities beyond those already delivered with Tranche 1 aircraft. SS011, first Block 5 aircraft, delivered to the Spanish Air Force. February 2007 Type Acceptance of the Block 5 standard aircraft. The Block 5 aircraft provide full air-toair and initial air-to-ground capabilities, opening up the swing-role potential of Eurofighter Typhoon. First ASRAAM firings from a Royal Air Force frontline Eurofighter Typhoon. January 2007 3,000th test hour achieved on PMAFT (Production Major Airframe Fatigue Test). PMAFT is intended to qualify the Structure System of the Series Production Aircraft. IPA1 achieves first firing of an AMRAAM C5 missile. December 2006 First flight of a Block 5 Series Production Aircraft (SS011) at Morn, Spain.
November 2006 Start of Retrofit R2 programme, whereby all earlier capability standards in Tranche 1 (Block 1, 2 and 2B) are to be brought up to the Final Operational Capability Block 5 standard. October 2006 The first Tranche 2 Eurofighter Typhoon Aircraft begin Final Assembly in Germany and the United Kingdom.
Delivery of 100th Series Production Aircraft, BS022 to the Royal Air Force. The four Nation Flight Test fleet achieve the 5,000th Eurofighter Typhoon flight. The Eurofighter ASTA team complete the Acceptance Testing of software load 1.0 in Manching. September 2006 Eurofighter GmbH and leading Danish aerospace company, Terma A/S, sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to ensure that the consortium will be in a good position to pursue industrial possibilities in Denmark should Eurofighter Typhoon be selected by the Danish Government. August 2006 First Eurofighter Typhoon Full Mission Simulator (FMS) in operation following completion of check out activities by Fighter Wing 74 Steinhoff of the German Air Force. The Eurofighter Typhoon in-service fleets of the four Partner Air Forces surpasses 10,000 flying hours. July 2006 The second Eurofighter Typhoon destined for the Austrian Air Force, AS002, starts Final Assembly at EADS Military Air Systems, Manching. Fighter Wing 74, based at Neuburg/Donau, becomes the second German Air Force Wing to take Eurofighter Typhoon. Eurofighter GmbH and NETMA sign the Austere Contract for the integration of a Laser Designator Pod (LDP) and the Enhanced Paveway II Laser Guided bomb on Royal Air Force Eurofighter Typhoons. June 2006 Six Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft of the RAF took part in Queen Elizabeth IIs birthday celebrations, flying in formations over Buckingham Palace. May 2006 IPA1 continued the Heavy Loads trials at BAE Systems Warton facility, taking off with six Paveway II, two AIM-9L Sidewinders, and one 1,000L fuel tank. The aim of the flight was to prove the aerodynamic stability of the aircraft in a heavy loads configuration. IPA4 became the first Eurofighter Typhoon to carry out an air-to-ground weapon release. Spanish Air Force Pilot, Alfonso de Castro, took off from Morn Air Base, Spain, and made several approaches to the planned impact point in order to check release procedures, before going for the hot-run and releasing the GBU-16 store from the starboard wing centre pylon. Further store jettison trials were conducted in the days after, with the clearance campaign scheduled to run over the summer months.
IPA1 made the first flight loaded with Phase 5 Flight Control Software. This was the first time the aircraft has flown carrying a software package dedicated to handling an air-tosurface payload. April 2006 The first Eurofighter Cockpit Trainers (ECT) are delivered to the German and Spanish Air Forces, at Laage and Morn respectively. These will assist Air Force pilots in the conversion to type as part of the Aircrew Synthetic Training Aids (ASTA) programme. March 2006 No.3 (Fighter) Squadron of the Royal Air Force forms the first operational Eurofighter Typhoon squadron. February 2006 Italian Air Force deploys two Eurofighter Typhoons from 4 Stormo, based at Grosseto, to patrol the skies over Turin during the 2006 Winter Olympics. They became the first of the partner Air Forces to use the aircraft operationally. EADS begins the first in a series of Heavy Load trials with Instrumented Production Aircraft Three (IPA3). The aircraft was fitted with four Paveway II, three external 1,000l fuel tanks, and an air-to-air fit of four AMRAAM and two IRIS-T. December 2005 UK sign Government to Government Understanding with Saudi Arabia for Eurofighter Typhoon to replace Tornado ADV and other aircraft in the Saudi Arabian Air Force. Final flight of Development Aircraft One (DA1) after 11 years of flight operations. The Italian Air Force place two armed Eurofighter Typhoons in constant operational readiness as part of the Surveillance of Aerial Spazio (SSSA) in Grosseto. Eurofighter Typhoon Block 2B achieves four-Nation Type Acceptance. First flight achieved with the METEOR Beyond Visual Range air-to-air missile. Two GHTMs (ground handling training missile) were loaded onto an RAF 17 Sqn Typhoon for the trials at RAF Coningsby, UK. Eurofighter Typhoon has now demonstrated the ability to carry all air-to-air weapons assigned to it in the Air Defence role. First deliveries of IRIS-T short range air-to-air missile to the German Air Force. November 2005 Italian Air Force surpass 1,000 operational flying hours, as the entire in-service fleet achieve 5,000 flying hours. Major General Klaus L. Axelsen, Chief of the Royal Danish Air Force Air Materiel Command, takes a VIP back-seat flight in Eurofighter Typhoon. On landing, he stated You should be proud of this very capable aircraft.
October 2005 Italian Defence Minister, Antonio Martino, takes a VIP flight in Eurofighter Typhoon. He claims Flying this aircraft is like a drug! First flight of upgraded avionics software. Four-ship formation of Eurofighter Typhoons make a fly-past over Heldenplatz, Vienna, as part of the celebrations marking the 50th Anniversary of the Austrian Armed Forces. Handover of Aircrew Synthetic Training Aids (ASTA) building to the German Air Force, at Fighter Wing 74, Neuburg. September 2005 Eurofighter Typhoon makes first-ever appearance in Turkey. The Italian Air Force send two aircraft from Grosseto as part of the International Defence Fair (IDEF) 2005, in Ankara. Assessments of Air-to-Air Refuelling Handling Qualities completed. Successful firings of AIM-9L Sidewinder missiles. German and Spanish Air Force support EADS campaign efforts in Greece with aircraft in the aerial and static displays, at Archangel 2005 Airshow, Tanagra Air Base, Greece. August 2005 Gross Manoeuvring Levels flight trials completed on IPA5. Campaign of Flutter Test flights completed with DA3 at Decimomannu Air Base. First flight with Phase 4 software and three external tanks. July 2005 IPA4 commences ambitious heat trials in Southern Spain. The aircraft is to make around 40 flights in extreme high temperatures. Royal Air Force 29 (R) Squadron moves to RAF Coningsby, from BAE Systems Warton facility. June 2005 The number of aircraft delivered into service with the four Eurofighter partner air forces of Germany, UK, Italy and Spain soared through fifty, following simultaneous acceptance by the German and Spanish Air Force. Eurojet deliver the 250th Series Production EJ200 engine to the customer. EADS CASA Military Aircraft begins long-term tests under operational conditions on Eurofighter Typhoon at the Spanish Air Force base of Morn. The Government of Norway increases funding levels for its Eurofighter Industrial participation programme by a further 12.5 million Euros.
April 2005 With deployment of IS002 from Alenias facilities in Torino to 4 Stormo Amadeo dAosta at Grosseto, Italy, all four partner air forces in Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom now operate series production single seaters with Batch 2 standard. These aircraft have PSP2 Capability (Production System Package) with Initial Defensive Aids Subsystem (DASS), Multifunctional Information and Distribution System (MIDS), Initial Direct Voice Input (DVI) and Sensor Fusion. Six Batch 2 aircraft have been accepted by the customer air forces so far, totalling the number of now delivered series production aircraft at 41 (including 5 Instrumented Production Aircraft IPA). March 2005 Successful weapon trials of Advanced Medium Range Air-Air Missile (AMRAAM) guided firing trials at QinetiQ Deep Sea Range at Benbecula in the Outer Hebrides. The test flight on Typhoon DA 4, piloted by BAES Chief Test Pilot Paul Hopkins and Dave Sully in the rear seat, was supported by a RAF flight refuelling tanker, a Nimrod MR2 to check for surface vessels within the danger area, and by the Royal Navy, who provided the unmanned Mirach targets. The profile for this test required the Typhoon aircraft to track two targets by radar, to simulate an attack on one Mirach using a captive AMRAAM missile while simultaneously attacking the second target with an active missile. The active AMRAAM scored a direct hit on the target and destroyed it. February 2005 Major General Erich Wolf, Chief of Staff Austrian Air Force, has flown Eurofighter at a visit to the RAF at BAES in Warton. General Wolf commented after the flight: This was the most impressive aircraft Ive ever flown and Ive flown many aircraft including the F16, F-18, MiG-29 and the Gripen. An outstanding aeroplane with outstanding performance that meets our expectations and requirements. The man-machine interface is superb and pilot orientated. At the invitation of the Italian Air Force two pilots of the Turkish Air Force had the opportunity to fly Eurofighter at Grosseto Base in a three ship formation with pilots of the hosting 4th Squadron. During the flight, that lasted 45 minutes, the Turkish pilots experienced the excellent aircraft performance of high manoeuvrability and exceptional thrust. Several manoeuvres were performed to underline the incredible acceleration and the optimum handling of the aircraft and its intercepting capabilities. January 2005 Delivery of Single Seaters started in December 2004, with Spanish & Italian Air Forces to receive the first aircrafts. Germany and UK will follow shortly. These aircraft are equipped with DASS (Defensive Aids Subsystem), MIDS (Multiple Information Distribution System), Chaff and Flare. December 2004 Signature of the Tranche 2 Supplement 3 Contract. The signature, worth Euro 13billion, will allow for the production of the Tranche 2 Eurofighter Typhoons, which will feature
the full air-to-air and air-to-ground swing-role capability that the four Partner Nations require. Eurofighter GmbH and NETMA sign the Type Acceptance agreement for the Eurofighter Typhoon Batch 2 aircraft. This signature will allow the delivery of the first series production single-seat Eurofighter Typhoons to the four Partner Nations German Parliaments Budget Committee announce their decision on the release of funding for the Tranche 2 procurement initiative. November 2004 Eurofighter Typhoon IPA2 successfully completes the first night-time Air-to-Air refuelling exercises. October 2004 First flight of GS002, the first single-seat Series Production Eurofighter Typhoon. This Production Flight Acceptance Test (PFAT) is a critical requirement to achieving Type Acceptance of the single-seat variant. July 2004 Eurofighter Welcome German Government Decision The decision effectively provides a route forward for contract signature of the Eurofighter Typhoon Supplement 3 / Tranche 2 production contract. Eurofighter, in close collaboration with the Eurofighter Partner Companies, is in detailed discussions with NETMA and the four Partner Nations to finalise a contract that will provide the basis for future production of the Eurofighter Typhoon Weapon System. May 2004 First German Eurofighter Squadron to receive Aircraft The first German Air Force Eurofighter Service Aircraft were welcomed by Fighter Wing (Jagdgeschwader) 73 Steinhoff (JG73 S) to their operational base at Rostock-Laage in Northern Germany. The event was attended by Chief of the German Air Force LtGen Klaus-Peter Stieglitz and Dr. Peter Eickenboom, Under Secretary of State within the German Ministry of Defence. Signature of ILS PC8 Umbrella Contract Integrated Logistic Support PC8 umbrella contract provides the final contract relating to the future in service support of the Eurofighter Typhoon Weapon System. The contract has an initial value of 250 million. April 2004 Gun and IRIS-T Firing The first series of in-flight gun firing trials of the BK27mm Mauser cannon and the first air launch of an IRIS-T short range air-to-air missile (SRAAM) from the outboard and ITSPL station was completed. The trials were undertaken as part of a weapons flight test campaign that will progressively clear advanced missiles and systems for the Eurofighter Typhoon Weapons System.
February 2004 IPA 4 first flight The fourth Instrumented Production Aircraft (IPA 4) successfully carried out its first flight on the 26. February 2004. IPA 4 is the first single seat production aircraft to roll off the final assembly line. IPA 4 offers the highest standard of the hardware / software integration, which represents a technical and functional evolution of the weapon system. The aircraft also incorporates an enhanced standard EJ200 engine that was tested in the air for the first time during the IPA 4 maiden flight. IT 001 was delivered on the 20. February to Cameri Air Base after Italian Air Force and Alenia Aeronautica concluded the necessary acceptance procedures. Completion of the build of the one hundredth Processor and Receiver LRIs (Line Replaced Items) for the Eurofighter radar. The significance of this milestone is an enormous team effort for the IPT (Integrated Project Team). The CAPTOR radar, developed and produced by the multinational Euroradar consortium led by SSD in Edinburgh, is the primary sensor of the Eurofighter Typhoon. The first single seat production standard Eurofighter Typhoon (IPA 4) underwent final tests prior to its imminent first flight. The test involved weighing the aircraft in order to establish its mass and centre of gravity. The results of the test confirmed that the mass prediction for the single seat production aircraft are well in line with the contracted requirement. The Basic Mass Empty (BME) for the single seat is 11 tons. December 2003 Eurofighter Typhoon participated in a memorial event organized by the Italian Ministry of Defence. Location was the Italian Aeronautica Militare air base at Grosseto, home of the 4th Stormo (Wing) comprising 9th and 20th Squadrons the first Italian units to receive Typhoon in Italian service. The event featured a unique presentation of Eurofighter Typhoon IPA 2, flown by Alenia Aeronautica Chief Defence Aircraft Test Pilot, Maurizio Cheli, and the Ferrari F1 F2003-GA car driven by F1 2003 World Champion, Michael Schumacher. The presentation included a series of race challenges over 600 m, 900 m and 1200 m. The first race over 600 m was won by Ferrari, whereas the 900 m and 1200 m races were won by Eurofighter. DA1 in Getafe, Spain (EADS CASA) Eurofighter Typhoon DA1 has completed a first series of air-to-surface weapons flight test. The aircraft was armed with two 2000lb GBU-10 weapons, fitted under the wing in the central station. The flight lasted 55 minutes and during this time, EADS CASA Test Pilot Alfonso de Castro, performed different flight conditions at altitudes from 10,000 to 40,000 feet and at speeds of M 0.4 - M 0.9. DA7 has completed a number of key milestones in firing trials conducted at the Air Weapons Range in Decimomannu. Tests included AIM-9L Sidewinder firing trials from the outboard wing station - conducted by Marco Venanzetti, Alenia Aeronautica, Eurofighter Typhoon Project Test Pilot. A second series of trials featured firing tests from the outboard wing station of the new generation short range air-to-air missile
ASRAAM. This trial was undertaken by Matteo Maurizio, Italian Airforce Experimental Pilot. October 2003 Official designation of the first Eurofighter Squadron in Spain. The official ceremony was attended by His Majesty King Juan Carlos I. The first Spanish Eurofighter was handed over to Colonel Javier Salto, Commander of Wing 11, the first Eurofighter Squadron to be formed in Spain. Start of integration of the METEOR Beyond-Visual-Range Air-to-Air Millie to the Eurofighter Typhoon, following recent fit and form' trials at BAE SYSTEMS Warton facility. The trials were conducted with a representative METEOR missile and Eurofighter Typhoon IPA1. August 2003 Delivery of first Series Production Aircraft to the German Air Force. This Aircraft, GT003, will be used for Service Pilot Instructor Training based at Manching, Southern Germany. Later in the year, this aircraft will be delivered to Laage in Northern Germany where the process of integration to the operational fleet will commence. June 2003 Type Acceptance signature on 30th June. This signature is the final stage in clearance by NETMA, the four-nation customer organisation. This will now allow the delivery process for Eurofighter Typhoon to commence with all four partner nations. April 2003 The formal inauguration of the Aircrew Synthetic Training Aids Joint Integration Facility (ASTA JIF) in Manching, Germany. The facility will also be established as the National Support Centre for the German Air Force. March 2003 The formal opening of the joint industry-operator International Weapon System Support Centre (IWSSC) in Hallbergmoos, Germany. This event marks the first formal operational step in establishing the joint service and support network for the Eurofighter Typhoon Weapon System ahead of Entry to Service later in the year.
March 2003 Delivery of the first major components of the single seat version Eurofighter Typhoon (designated PS001) to the Final Assembly line at EADS-CASA in Getafe, Spain. PS001 will make its first flight later this year. February 2003 The first Single Seat Centre Fuselage PS001 was delivered following construction and assembly at EADS-Deutschland facilities in Augsburg and Manching, Germany. The PS001 front fuselage completed and shipped from the BAE SYSTEMS facility in Samlesbury, UK, in just 10 months, from the first parts being put in jig to the delivery of
a fully equipped front fuselage. This demonstrates the significant advances made since production of the first production standard twin-seat front fuselage (IPA1) which took 23 months to complete.
