The Company is the world's fourth largest truck manufacturer, and the world's third largest bus manufacturer. The Company's over 25,000 employees are guided by the vision to be "best in the manner in which we operate, best in the products we deliver, and best in our value system and ethics." Tata Motors is also expanding its international footprint, established through exports since 1961. The Company's commercial and passenger vehicles are already being marketed in several countries in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, South East Asia, South Asia and South America. It has franchisee/joint venture assembly operations in Kenya, Bangladesh, Ukraine, Russia, Senegal and South Africa. The foundation of the Company's growth over the last 50 years is a deep understanding of economic stimuli and customer needs, and the ability to translate them into customer-desired offerings through leading edge R&D. With over 4,500 engineers and scientists, the Roll.no.1112370011Saroj Institute of Technology & Management 24
Company's Engineering Research Centre, established in 1966, has enabled pioneering technologies and products. The Company today has R&D centre in Pune, Jamshedpur, Lucknow, Dharwad in India, and in South Korea, Spain, and the UK. It was Tata Motors, which developed the first indigenously developed Light Commercial Vehicle, India's first Sports Utility Vehicle and, in 1998, the Tata Indica, India's first fully indigenous passenger car. Within two years of launch, Tata Indica became India's largest selling car in its segment. In 2005, Tata Motors created a new segment by launching the Tata Ace, India's first indigenously developed mini-truck. In January 2008, Tata Motors unveiled its People's Car, the Tata Nano, which India and the world have been looking forward to. The Tata Nano has been subsequently launched, as planned, in India in March 2009. A development, which signifies a first for the global automobile industry, the Nano brings the comfort and safety of a car within the reach of thousands of families. The standard version has been priced at Rs.100,000 (excluding VAT and transportation cost). Designed with a family in mind, it has a roomy passenger compartment with generous leg space and head room. It can comfortably seat four persons. Its mono-volume design will set a new benchmark among small cars. Its safety performance exceeds regulatory requirements in Roll.no.1112370011Saroj Institute of Technology & Management 25
India. Its tailpipe emission performance too exceeds regulatory requirements. In terms of overall pollutants, it has a lower pollution level than two-wheelers being manufactured in India today. The lean design strategy has helped minimize weight, which helps maximize performance per unit of energy consumed and delivers high fuel efficiency. The high fuel efficiency also ensures that the car has low carbon dioxide emissions, thereby providing the twin benefits of an affordable transportation solution with a low carbon footprint. In May 2009, Tata Motors ushered in a new era in the Indian automobile industry, in keeping with its pioneering tradition, by unveiling its new range of world standard trucks called Prima. In their power, speed, carrying capacity, operating economy and trims, they will introduce new benchmarks in India and match the best in the world in performance at a lower life-cycle cost. Tata Motors is equally focused on environment-friendly technologies in emissions and alternative fuels. It has developed electric and hybrid vehicles both for personal and public transportation. CHAPTER 1
38
1940s the Indian automotive industry was at a very nascent stage. An embryonic automotive industry emerges in India.
In the initial years after independence Indian automobile industry was plagued by unfavorable government policies. All it had to offer in the passenger car segment was a 1940s Morris model called the Ambassador . In 1953, government of India and private sector came together to build an automotive component manufacturing industry to meet the rising needs of the automobile industry. Nonetheless the growth was not on the expected lines, rather relatively slow in the 1950s and 1960s due to the prevalence of nationalization and license raj.It was in 1897 that a resident of Calcutta brought the first car to India. The next year, there were four cars in Bombay, one of them owned by Jamshedji Tata and the other three also by Parsis. That same year, the first pneumatic tiers arrived in Bombay, with Dunlop opening an office in the city.

Madras, it would appear, lagged behind, though it is related that a car was seen on Mount Road on a brief outing in 1894. If that unconfirmed appearance is ignored, the first recorded date of a car being in regular use in Madras is 1901. The car was owned by A J Yorke, a director of Parry & Co. He drove it daily from Bens Gardens, Adyar, to Parrys in Black Town. The Souths first registered car, MC-1, belonged to Francis Spring, at that time Secretary of the Madras Railway Board and, in 1904, to become the Chairman of the Madras Port Trust and father of the Madras Harbor.
The first Indian-owned car in Madras, MC-3, was building contractor T Namberumal Chettys . In 1903, Samuel John Green of Simpson & Co, Madras, built Indias first steam car and caused a sensation on the roads of the city. The Madras Mail hailed its appearance as the beginning of a new industry for Madras. Two years later, Simpsons built the first steam bus. It ran between Bezwada (Vijayawada) and Masulipatam (Machilipatnam) in what was possibly the first motor When TVS commenced operations in 1912, motor transport received a fillip in South India. The firm was founded by T V Sundram Iyengar to operate a bus service. T V Sundram Iyengar and Sons Ltd (now Sundaram Motors) became a vehicle dealer in 1922 after the lifting of Government restrictions on imported vehicles of all types had been put in place during the Great War (1914-18). By 1920, the number of imported vehicles of all types had

grown to nearly 13,500 and two international automobile manufacturers, Ford and General Motors, sensing the potential, set up local companies that year to sell and service their motor cars and trucks.
In 1928, General Motors India Ltd commenced assembling trucks and cars in its factory in Bombay, the first car assembled in India rolling off the assembly line on December 4th. Two years later, Ford Motor Co of India Ltd commenced assembly of automobiles in Madras, and the next year in Bombay and Calcutta. And in 1936, Addison & Co Ltd commenced assembly of cars and trucks in Madras. Hindustan Motors Ltd, Calcutta, and Premier Automobiles Ltd, Bombay, were established in 1942 and 1944 respectively to progressively manufacture complete automobiles. Hindustan Motors, a Birla group company, began manufacturing operations in 1948 by assembling Morris Oxford cars and Bedford trucks, gradually indigenizing the components. In 1957, the Morris Oxford, substantially indigenized, was re-introduced as the Hindustan Ambassador.

In the year 1769, a French engineer by the name of Nicolas J. Cognate invented the first automobile to run on roads. This automobile, in fact, was a self-powered, three-wheeled, military tractor that made the use of a steam engine. The range of the automobile, however, was very brief and at the most, it could only run at a
Roll.no.1112370011Saroj Institute of Technology & Management
47
stretch for fifteen minutes. In addition, these automobiles were not fit for the roads as the steam engines made them very heavy and large, and required ample starting time. Oliver Evans was the first to design a steam engine driven automobile in the U.S. A Scotsman, Robert Anderson, was the first to invent an electric carriage between 1832 and 1839. However, Thomas Davenport of the U.S.A. and Scotsman Robert Davidson were amongst the first to invent more applicable automobiles, making use of non-rechargeable electric batteries in 1842. Development of roads made traveling comfortable and as a result, the short ranged, electric battery driven automobiles were no more the best option for traveling over longer distances.
The Automobile Industry finally came of age with Henry Ford in 1914 for the bulk production of cars. This lead to the development of the industry and it first begun in the assembly lines of his car factory. The several methods adopted by Ford, made the new invention (that is, the car) popular amongst the rich as well as the masses. U.S Automobile Industry was flooded with foreign automobile companies, especially those of Japan and Germany.

The current trends of the Global Automobile Industry reveal that in the developed countries the Automobile Industries are stagnating as a result of the drooping car markets, whereas the Automobile Industry in the developing nations, such as, India and Brazil, have been consistently registering higher growth rates every passing year for their flourishing domestic automobile markets.
In 2009 estimated rate of growth of India auto industry is going to be 9 percent. Auto industry in India has been hit hard by ongoing global financial recession. Sales figures of India automobile industry for December 2008 have shown However, there is still hope for automobile industry of India in 2009 as there are certain factors working in its favor. India is blessed with a middle class, which is Roll.no.1112370011Saroj Institute of Technology & Management 49
getting economically stronger with every passing day. This class is being touted as potential consumers for India auto industry in years to come.
Indian economy has been, more or less, able to withstand tremors of global financial meltdown. Even though its rate of growth has slowed down considerably, there are hopes of an economic revival. Work force of auto industry of India is relatively well trained. All these factors indicate that there could be a decent future for India auto industry in days to come.
Hyundai, a major automobile establishment of South Korea, has put in large sums of money in India automobile market. As per its estimates, India auto industry could become a major center for small car manufacturing organizations in future. There are some other automobile companies of world who have shown interest in India auto market. Major names among these are General Motors, Skoda Auto and Mercedes-Benz. These companies have major plans lined up for India auto

industry and are likely to invest a huge amount of money in India automobile market.
World The high growth in the Indian economy has resulted in many foreign car manufacturers entering the Indian market. Rolls Royce, Bentley and Maybach are examples of the few high end automobile manufacturers to enter India in the recent years1980s. Most of these were outdated models like Hindustan Motors' Ambassador .

Motors' Ambassador (which is still produced and sold). The only car with the latest technology then was the Maruti 800. It became very popular because of the low price, high fuel efficiency and good reliability. Since then the market has grown with over 20 manufacturers and hundreds of models and variants. The Maruti 800 is at the lower end of the price range costing approx US $5,000 and Bugatti Veyron at the other with a price tag of over 2 Million US dollars.
The Indian automotive industry has also greatly matured. The Tata Indica was indigenously developed by Tata Motors. Another Indian manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra also came up with its own SUVs, the Scorpio and the Bolero. These cars have proved very popular here and are also exported to the European markets. An electric car is also manufactured by a local company, REVA. Tata Motors plans to produce the world's first air powered in partnership with MDI of France.

Tata Venture has now been launched in Maharashtra today making this state the second market for this MPV after the tourist city, Rajasthan. The MPV has been priced at 4.07 lakh (ex showroom, Thane). It is powered by a 1.4 L TDI diesel engine offering a maximum output of 69 bhp at 4500 rpm and a top torque of 13.7 kgm at 2500 rpm. The mileage offered is 15.42 km. p/l.
Overall
Home grown auto manufacturer, Tata Motors today launched its first ever Van, Tata Venture in Rajasthan to be later introduced pan India. Unlike the dull and run of the mill Van we find in our market today, Tata Venture seems to be a breath of fresh air with its European look which adds to its aesthetics. Shattering the myths about utility vans looking drab as ever, Tata with its Tata Venture creates a niche for itself. The striking design and the plug in glass panel provide an upbeat feel to it.
Little less than 4 meters, Tata Venture comfortably seats eight passengers in three front facing rows. Other variants come as 5 and 7 seater option. Heavy luggage is something one generally does not worry about while traveling in a van and Tata Venture fulfills this standard requirement beautifully by accommodating
59
bag and baggage easily. The rear seats can be removed, just like in any other van to make room for luggage. However even if its not done so, this van takes the load quite easily. Exclusive space for bottles, maps, books inside the van make it an ideal traveler. Comfort has not been spared as Tata puts features such as power steering (taken from Tata Manza and Tata Vista), HVAC, power windows, keyless entry along with engine immobilizer, reverse parking aid and rear wipers. The dashboard is kept minimalist and the instrument panel and buttons, easy to read and operate. Upholstered with two tone beige and black theme, Tata Venture stands out from its rivals in the segment in terms of looks and features incorporated in it.
The beautiful model from Tata comes in three exclusive variants, Tata Venture CX, Tata Venture EX and Tata Venture GX. The mill affixed in Tata Venture is a 1.4 L turbo engine that offers maximum output of 50 PS in base variant Tata Venture CX and 71 PS in the rest two. The powerful engine gives a good fuel economy of 15.42 km p/l (certified by ARAI). The mill is positioned under the seating compartment in front. A lid next to the handbrake makes it easy to get an access to the engine compartment from inside the car in case one needs to replace or check engine liquid.
60
Tata yet again assures customers of its quality product by offering a 2 year or 75000 kms warranty, whichever comes earlier.
The major competitor of Tata Venture in market at present is Maruti Omni, if the budget is kept aside. The two large sized carriers will come face to face in Indian Auto market. Tata Venture wears real up market looks which brings a revolution in the segment.
61
It is the base variant of Tata Venture which comes with some standard features like Collapsible steering, Front Crash Reinforcement, side impact protection Beam and shield lock, Reclining and sliding driver and co driver seat, 3 spoke Steering wheel, 2 Glove boxes, Electrical ports 12V, Provision Tata Venture CX of Music system, Flat Folding 3rd row seats, Digital Clock and Digital Information System, Roof Lamp, Sunvisor Driver and Co driver side, Retractable inner grab handles, lift type tail gate at rear, Butterfly type 3 speed front wipers.

Every report has pros and cons so mine also have some Limitations. They can be pointed as bellow: Conclusion are made from only Luck now city .The duration was short to make any conclusion School segment we can not cover because almost School were closed due to summer vacation. The duration was short to make any conclusion Between the sender and the receiver, due to differing perceptions,
communication errors in the form of miscomprehension, selective perception etc. creep in. In this case too, these were unavoidable, and thus might have added to slight inaccuracy in my results. All customers are not alike. Thus the results may not hold true for every individual In some instances respondents may not have revealed the truth.
106
CONCLUSION
During my summer project, I have got the topic Sale and promotion of Tata Venture. I visited responsible and authentic customer to achieve my objective and I come to this conclusion that consumers are not fully aware about the feature of Tata Venture . Tata Venture is favorite only for institute and hotels industry many consumer which has family has not shown any interest. Many consumer has point that venture has low average in comparison to Maruti Omni and Tata Indico. In my project duration I have prepared detailed Excel Sheet of customer view about venture thus I have also included in my project report therefore all the details are authentic and fare and I am sure it will help for Tata Motors for improving the sales of Tata Venture .
107
RECOMMENDATION
My recommendation on the basis of my project report as bellow: As customer are not fully aware about Tata Venture the marketing should be done on a mass basis. More Varity of advertisement should be shown of Tata Venture in Media as well as in News Paper. Some customers has point that Venture look like Tata Magic so the exterior feature should be improved which shows a style and status. Some new and exciting offer should be done to attract the customer to purchase. The driver can not adjust his posture and not fell comfort for smooth driving hence it should be solved by the manufacturer of Venture.
108
Finding
My Findings
There are equal numbers of people who are self employed and in service. During the survey I found that still there are 50% people who were not having any passenger car. Most of the people said Nano fits in the city traffic During the survey I found that young people are more attractive towards feature of the model. I found that most of the people have a TATA companys car. 80% people satisfy with the performance of car. In my finding TV channel is more effective media for advertisement. Comparison of model is more effective advertisement.
109
Suggestions
Tata has always been a product centric company. Its no way a consumer oriented company. It is visible from all the passenger products it has launched. The only advantage it enjoys presently is its first mover advantage but it cant enable you to sustain competitive advantage for a longer period. Nano and Indica good initiatives but where are the looks of a passenger car. Look at the roof, the positioning of tail lamps, indicator positioning of headlamps, no side indicator in Nano etc. the difference between a transport vehicle and a passenger must be evident strongly.
