ENGLISH LESSON PLAN Class: Year 4 Level: Intermediate Date: 12 FEB 2013 Time: 10am-11am (1 hour) Theme: World

of Knowledge Topic: Malaysia, My Country Focused skills: Speaking Integral skills: Listening and writing Curriculum Specification: 1.1.1 Listen to and enjoy childrens song rhythm and poems. 2.3.1 Responding to Wh questions. 2.6.2 State whether one likes or dislikes the story heard or read 4.4.1 Provide missing letters in words. Behavioral objective: By the end of the lesson, student should be able to:I Make at least 5 simple sentences. II Spell 8 out of 10 Malaysia foods correctly. III Identify 10 Malaysian foods and 5 Malaysian cultures. CCTS: Classify of food and culture in Malaysia into various such as food, festival, religion and traditional costume in Malaysia. Previous knowledge: Based on the previous lesson, students have learnt about races in Malaysia in Year 3. Educational emphasis: Listening skills

STEPS Set induction 5 minutes

CONTENT Teacher gives handout to the pupils on poem Foodorama Teacher recite the poem of food in the class Example of teachers question: I) Have you heard the poem before? II) What is this poem all about? III) What is this poem focused on?

TEACHING AND LISTENING ACTIVITIES Students are asked to read the poem Students recite the poem silently then they recite together a few times. Students answer a few questions pertaining to the poem.

RATIONAL/REM ARKS To attract students interest about the topic. Teacher recites the poem with action and with a rhyming.

STEP 1 10 minutes

Build up a list based on food and culture of Malaysia. Example of clue: I) What is your favorite foods? II) What is common food among races in Malaysia? III) What is the common culture in Malaysia?

Students are asked for the name of Malaysian food and culture that they know. Teacher asked student to name of food and culture of Malaysia. Students spell and teacher write answer on blackboard. Teacher gives explanation to students about food and culture in Malaysia. Students are showed a picture of different races in Malaysia. Students are asked to match the picture showed before with the Malaysian food and cultures there are listed in the blackboard. Students make a simple sentence from picture given before.

To reflect students previous knowledge. To develop their thinking skill.

STEP 2 15 minutes

Sentence structure for question: I) What can you see from this picture? II) What is their religion? III) What are their popular food and culture?

To introduce sentence structure for questions and response to video clip.

STEP 3 20 minutes

CCTS activity Students talk about the food and culture into the various categories such as: I) Food II) Festival III) Religion IV) Traditional costume We should appreciate our culture; love our country and proud to be Malaysian.

Students are divided into four groups. Every group is asked to write the content of topic at least 10 sentences. Teachers assist the weaker groups. Each group displays their answer in front of the class. Students learn values like being proud to be Malaysian. To help student realize to good values of culture to be practice in daily life. The importance of conserving it for the future generation. Weaker student to be given work where they identify and write the name of Malaysian food and culture correctly. The better students attempt the enrichment activity. Both remedial and enrichment activity work are displayed at the back of the class for everyone to see.

To encourage discussion among peers. Develop students selfesteem to views their knowledge.

Closure

To help student appreciate our country.
