S. Muralidharan
Dear Business Partner, Just a few years ago, in order to accelerate and sustain the growth in the automobile sector in India, the Ministry of Heavy Industries in consultation with the industry, planners, academia, state and central authorities, prepared a comprehensive document titled "Automotive Mission Plan 2006-2016". Herein, it lay down a blueprint for the development of the automotive industry, with a vision to make India a global automotive hub. In its assessment of the situation, it also clearly identified the challenges as well as the opportunities that faced India. One of the key topics that was put forth as an area of focus was "availability of trained manpower". This would not only aid in the growth of the sector, but also facilitate in achieving the employment goals. Today, the Indian automotive industry is in a very enviable position it has emerged as the world's fastest growing passenger car market, the largest manufacturer of tractors and 3-wheelers, the second largest 2-wheelers manufacturer and the 4th largest producer of commercial vehicles. The OE landscape is dotted with Indian and global manufacturers, spread across the length and breadth of the country. Joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions are the trend, with players wanting to gain access to new markets and new technologies. The Indian auto component sector too is witnessing robust growth rates the prime driver being cost advantage of Indian manufacturing. Increased component localisation for Indian OEMs and component outsourcing for global vehicle manufacturers bode well for India. The vehicle parts is geographically dispersed and complex with the co-existence of three generations of systems! Labour cost being relatively low in India, it continues to be a repair market. All these factors create a conducive environment for companies like Bosch to leverage on its unique strengths: Parts+Bytes+Services strategy. At Bosch, we believe in "investing" in training; globally, we train about 70,000 people each year. In the AA world, India is maintaining a leading position in terms of the number of participants trained each year. In order to develop competent manpower, it is imperative to make training accessible, relevant and effective. We have achieved this objective through various measures: f f f f f Continuous upgrade & introduction of newer course modules to meet business requirement Collaborations with channel partners and government bodies to expand training infrastructure Joint certification at educational institutes and universities through curriculum development Making training an integral part of our service concept to upgrade the skill levels of technicians Customised programmes to address specific needs Bosch System Technician (BST), Service Promoter, Select Train Employ & Perform (STEP), Sales Force Academy programme for Field Representatives.
We have thus gone beyond the obvious and used Training as an important tool to enable the entire value chain, thereby securing our market leadership and our future success. I am confident that you will find useful courses/ modules in our Training Calendar 2012. We look forward to welcoming you to our 'gurukul' soon. Let's together build competence for today and tomorrow. Yours sincerely,
T.S. Ananda Kumar General Manager Technical Service & Support Automotive Aftermarket
