The best holiday I ve ever had. We were all in good spirits after spending the whole summer camping in Europe. Italy was our final destination and we were setting up camp for the very last ti me. We were staying at a fantastic campsite, big trees shaded our tent. At night you could hear voices happily chatting in the darkness and insects buzz ing in the trees. One evening, we decided to go to a traditional Italian restaurant. We had been cooking for ourselves most nights, so it seemed like a real treat to have someone prepare our meal for us. Everyone got dressed up in their best clothes and we headed off towards the town . The food was delicious.
We tucked into all kinds of pasta, pizzas and juicy fresh fish dishes. Then, after we d finished eating there was a special dancing demonstration by so me of the locals. We clapped and cheered as they whirled around the dance floor. Then, they made us have a go. No one was very good but we had a great time trying to get the moves right. When the music finally stopped we noticed that everything in the restaurant was shaking from side to side. "Quick! Get under the tables. It s an earthquake," shouted one of the waiters. We hadn t noticed the ground moving before as we had been concentrating on danci ng! We were trembling with fear by the time the earthquake was over. It only lasted a minute, but it seemed like much longer. Luckily, no one was injured and the restaurant wasn t damaged, apart from a few broken plates and glasses. One thing is certain though, my friends and I will always remember the night whe n our dancing nearly brought the house down! As I was driving home, it started to rain. Suddenly the road became very slippery. Then, out of nowhere a dog ran out in front of the car. The dog disappeared from view and I slammed on the brakes. Luckily, I had learned how to drive in dangerous conditions and I stopped very q uickly. As I was getting out of the car, the dog wagged his tail. He was absolutely fine. I could hear the wind howling around me. It was quite dark that night and it felt strange to be out in the wilderness all alone. Always took on the bright side of life, kids, Mr Frisbain used to tell us. Have you ever travelled by train on a warm summer night? I am sure you all know what a bargain is. Why, for no reason at all, do you feel scared when you walk into some rooms? It was so quiet, I could hear my stomach rumbling. We were all lying on the floor as the bank robbers took the money. The man behind the counter had saved us all with his bravery. We were all extremely grateful. I often think back and laugh to myself. I met my husband because he dropped a pot of paint on me while he was painting a window frame. Just as well I m not superstitious!
