9020 LEGO Soft Starter Set Music with birds singing and bees humming to create a fairy garden atmosphere

Connect
Talk to the children about fairytales where they might find a garden full of fairies. Can they think of any stories or films with such a garden? A garden fit for fairies must have lots of flowers and colourful scenery, and be very quiet so they wont be disturbed. Perhaps we should place it at the end of a rainbow! No-one has ever seen one in real life but most people have quite a clear idea of what such a place might look like if it did exist. Have the children describe their versions. Use the music to enhance the fairy spirit.

Construct
Have the children create and build all the fantastic flowers and plants that can be seen in the Garden of Fairies. Make sure they can use lots of different colours for the stems and different shapes for the flower petals.

Suggested model solution

Contemplate
Encourage the children to fall asleep in the Garden of Fairies and then wake up and stretch their arms, legs and necks! Have them describe the feeling. A Garden of Fairies is a beautiful, peaceful place. Encourage the children to think of a way in which they can run around in the Garden of Fairies without knocking over the flowers and plants? Test to see if it works! How do fairies dance? Encourage the children to make up their own fairy dance!

Continue
Have the children pretend that they are fairy pets try hopping like rabbits and frogs, crawling like snakes, or waddling like ducks. Amuse all the fairy pets by creating and building some playground equipment for them in the Garden of Fairies. Imagine what the Fairy Queen looks like. Design and build her. Then build her a fairytale castle, with towers and spires.
