The sale of Albrecht Dürer: Masterpieces from a Private Collection achieved $6,002,750/£3,781,733/€4,442,035, selling 80% by value and 76% by lot. The top lot of the sale was Albrecht Dürer’s The Rhinoceros, which realized $866,500/£545,895/€641,210, setting a world auction record for the artist. Richard Lloyd, International Department Head, Prints, said: “We are very pleased with the results of this remarkable collection, which saw tremendous prices for several lots including, The Rhinoceros, which far exceeded the presale estimate when it soared to $866,000, setting a world auction record for Albrecht Dürer. The sale saw competitive bidding from private clients and the trade from both the United States and Europe. We are looking forward to continuing Old Masters week with tomorrow’s sales of Old Master Paintings Part I and Renaissance.”
