Part A: Download and prepare the file for the tutorial


1. Download the Excel file GBIDataWinter2011.xlsx from the course CLEW site. 2. Open the file in Excel. 3. Save the file by clicking on the Office button on the top right corner of the worksheet. a. Choose Save As on the left panel b. Click on Excel Workbook c. Type the file name as YourFullNameGBI.xlsx (e.g. StephQuanGBI.xlsx) 4. Each tab at the bottom of the file represents a worksheet. List the names of the worksheets: ____________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________ 5. SAVE the file and close Excel.

Part B: Basic spreadsheet skills


1. OPEN YourFullNameGBI.xlsx a. Click on tab US Customer. SORT the worksheet by State in ascending order (from A to Z). Within each state, SORT by City in ascending order.

b. Use the COUNT or COUNTA function. Count the total number of US customers.

Use the COUNTIF function to count the number of customers in Colorado. How many customers are there in CO? ______

2. Click on tab Vendor. Repeat 1.a. to 1.c. using the Vendor worksheet. How many vendors are there in WA? ________ 3. Click on tab Purchase Order. a. Insert a column and name the column Purchase Amount.

b. Calculate the purchase amount for each purchase order using formulas (Product cost * Quantity).

c. SORT the worksheet using Purchase Amount from the largest to the smallest values.

4. Click on tab Canada Sales. a. Insert a column and name the column Sales Amount. b. Calculate the Sales Amount for each sales order using formulas (CND Sale Price * Quantity). SORT the worksheet using Sales Amount from the largest to the smallest values. c. List the three sales orders # (SO#) having the largest sales amount. iv. SO# _________________ Sales Amount:_________________ v. SO# _________________ Sales Amount:_________________ vi. SO# _________________ Sales Amount:_________________ d. Identify the sales order having the largest amount by using the function MAX. Write down your formula here: _______________________________ e. The total sales amount is: _______________________ 5. Click on tab US Sales. a. What will be the new Sale Price for each Sales Order # if GBI gives the discount of 2% for all wholesale companies and 3% for all retail companies on its US Sale Price? Step 1: SORT by customer type from A to Z. Step 2: INSERT a new column called NEW Sales Price.

Step 3: Use IF function to calculate the total sales amount by giving the discount of 2% for all wholesale companies and 3% for all retail companies on its US Sale Price.

6. SAVE YourFullName GBI.xlsx 7. Email your file to [email protected] along with the subject Excel Tutorial 1 for Class 273-02. Make sure that your file has been duly received by the TA before leaving the class.
