Prayer Before an Election
Lord God, as the election approaches, we seek to better understand the issues and concerns that confront our city/state/country, and how the Gospel compels us to respond as faithful citizens in our community. We ask for eyes that are free from blindness so that we might see each other as brothers and sisters, one and equal in dignity, especially those who are victims of abuse and violence, deceit and poverty. We ask for ears that will hear the cries of children unborn and those abandoned, Men and women oppressed because of race or creed, religion or gender. We ask for minds and hearts that are open to hearing the voice of leaders who will bring us closer to your Kingdom. We pray for discernment so that we may choose leaders who hear your Word, live your love, and keep in the ways of your truth as they follow in the steps of Jesus and his Apostles and guide us to your Kingdom of justice and peace. We ask this in the name of your Son Jesus Christ and through the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Congratulations to Fr. Peter, Priest of the Holy Sepulchre (LHS)
This is an Ecclesial Order of Knighthood. The new Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulchre received papal approbation from Pope Pascal II in 1113. It was reorganized by Pius IX in 1847. The only Order of Chivalry under the protection of the Holy See. Membership is considered one of the highest honors conferred upon clergy and laity alike. It is a worldwide Order with 20,000 members in 30 countries. Selection occurs because of meritorious service to the Church, to the Community and to one's fellow man. This honor comes to you due to the distinguished Catholic of demonstrated fidelity, notable accomplishments, and readiness to serve the Church. Bishop Conlon accepts nomination of priest which is then sent to Rome for approval. It is truly a mark of distinction to be numbered among the 10,000 Knights and Ladies in the United States. There are spiritual and temporal responsibilities first among them being daily prayer for peace in the Holy Land. The Holy Father has given the Order the twofold modern day mission of fostering the practice of the Christian life in the modern world, and, the preservation of the faith in the Holy Land. We are truly blessed at Christ the King to have such a dedicated priest that leads us to Christ. Yours in Christ, Eileen B. Maggiore, Pastoral Associate

A Nice Story
My client, Mary, (not her real name) just found out shes having a boy. She wanted to pick a name for her baby that had strength and meaning. After much thought, she decided on Gabriel, after the Archangel. She liked that he brought the message to Mary about bearing the Savior. She beamed as she told me that fianc Mike agreed this would be a great name for their son. Thank you for your support of Womans Choice Services of Lombard and Joliet. CHRIST THE KING FINANCE COUNCIL
Meeting minutes for Sep 19, 2012 The Finance Council met on the evening of September 19th. Rick Cosenza, Lori Bhardwaj, Brian Carnahan, and Elaine Ward were in attendance. We opened in prayer, and the minutes from our prior meeting were unanimously approved. Lori gave an update on the school. We have 30 full-time equivalent students, with 9 being Kindergarteners. Fundraising efforts are going well on the pizza sales, Fall Fest, and Winter Wonderland. We discussed the latest updates from the Administration Commission, and the largest expense is going to be the heating at the school. Financially, we are current on all bills, and expenses are in line with expectations. We looked at an example Stewardship Report from a different church and really liked the format. We will work on creating a Christ the King Stewardship Report for distribution in November. Our next meetings are scheduled for Oct 10th and Nov 14th.

Through delving into Scripture and human history this midpoint session of the course explores a twofold aspect of the Christian Journey: the radicality of Jesus and His teachings as well as human tendency to try to contain Him. Rather than resisting Jesus through attempts to cage Him, viewers are invited to see the abundant life possible once they surrender to Jesus and set Him free to enter every aspect of their lives. It is shown that through such an uncaging of Christ, a new level of personal freedom is reached. For more information please call Eileen at 630396-6076.

Year of the Eucharist 2010-2011 Wetlands Project- Update
Page 7 9
The parish, and the Administration Commission, have received from DuPage County, the final documents closing our wetlands project. This means that we have met the criteria set by the County for that space; and no longer are required to have annual inspections, and pay to have extra landscaping work done to get the space up to those standards. It is a matter, now, of one less item of regulation that the committee and staff have had to deal with for the last 3 years. In order to maintain the appearance and utility of the space, we will continue to spend monies to re-seed and control weeds as necessary. However, overall, this is a great final step forward for our campus; and should be less time, talent, and treasure to maintain- going forward. Many have noticed that the area referred to as the wetlands was actually under water for a period of weeks in August. Given the dry nature of our summer, the area has been a wetlands in name only for most of the time. The engineering aspects of the project intentionally made the area a detention pond. Meaning run-off water, from even not-so-heavy rains, are detained there for a time, until the sewers and streams can handle the flow. We had water a bit longer than usual in August, because there was a blockage found in one of the drains and control valves. That has been taken care of. Now the space is dry (or drying out), because it is not a retention pond. A retention pond is designed to almost always have some water in it, being retained permanently. The detention characteristics match the small water spaces that were filled in and paved over when we added the Parish Life Center and expanded the Narthex. Having the ground in that area covered in grasses tolerant of both extra water and drought allows us to use the space, and not have a muddy hole in the schools back yard. Thank you for your financial support, and please take the opportunity to look at the finished project. The Parish Administration Commission

Election 2012
Election 2012
This is the second of four bulletin inserts to offer guidance and reflection points from Illinois Catholic Bishops in preparation for the elections of November 6, 2012. (The first insert was an introduction to this effort.) A conscience formed by our Catholic faith is needed to bring our moral principles to the debate about issues and candidates. We feel compelled, here at the beginning, to clarify the definition of conscience, because some cite their conscience as a justification for immoral public policy positions or support for a candidate whose positions conflict with the common good. Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way? Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me. [John 14:1-7] How can we know the way? This is a question Christians have been asking since the beginning, and one that we must continue to ask today. Like St. Thomas, we know that we cannot find the truth by turning in upon ourselves. Rather we look to Christ and to His Churchfor the Church is one with Christ. To help us know the way, God has placed in each of us a CONSCIENCE, which bears witness to the truth in reference to the Supreme Good.1 In the words of the Second Vatican Council, Deep within his conscience man discovers a law which he has not laid upon himself but which he must obey.2 Conscience does not make us morally self-sufficient, but points us toward the truth for which we were made and which alone can make us free. [John 8:32] Thus, while one must never knowingly act against the clear judgment of his or her own conscience, it is also true that a conscience can only act as a reliable moral guide when it is well-formed. With a spirit of humility and love we reaffirm the words of our brother bishops, reminding all the faithful that it is the moral responsibility of each Catholic to hear, receive, and act upon the Churchs teaching in the lifelong task of forming his or her own conscience.3 A well-formed conscience requires, first of all, a genuine desire to embrace goodness and truth and to avoid evil. For Catholics this begins with a willingness and openness to seek the truth revealed to us in Sacred Scripture and Tradition. Because sin and neglect can distort the judgment of our conscience, prayerful discernmentaided by the wisdom of the Church and the grace of the sacraments, especially reconciliation and the Eucharistis necessary for a well-formed conscience. Catholics must understand that if they fail to form their consciences they can make erroneous moral judgments. Conscience is more than a feeling or intuition; it is a judgment of reason whereby a person recognizes the moral quality of a specific, concrete act.4 Moral decision making requires the clearest possible understanding of the specific act being judged. In short, a well-formed conscience will be a well-informed conscience. It is to that end that we offer these words of guidance, and to which we implore you to make every effort to learn the teachings of the Church and to form your conscience well. In the next insert beginning on October 14th, we will discuss how a well-formed conscience and prudential judgment guide the decisions we make as citizens and voters. Additional information can be found on the Catholic Conference of Illinois website, www.ilcatholic.org, or in the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) publication, Faithful Citizenship (www.faithfulcitizenship.org).
