Engineering)
Time: 3 hours Max. Marks: 70
Answer any FIVE questions
All questions carry equal marks
---

1. a) Prove that a discrete linear shift invariant system is stable if and only if its unit
sample response is bounded.
b) Prove that the convolution in time domain leads to multiplication in frequency
domain for discrete time signals.
c) Plot the magnitude and phase response as a function of frequency for ω ≤ ∏, for
the system whose impulse response is given by
h(n) = { au u (n) a <1 for n≥ 0
n

for n ≤ 0

2. a) State and prove the parseval’s property of DFTs.

b) Find the DFT of the sequence (1, -2, 0, 3). From this find the DFT of the
sequence (6, 2, -4, 0). Prove the properties you have used.
c) Perform and obtain circular convolution of (-1, 0, 2, 1) with (1, 2, -1, 0) using
DFT approach.

3. a) Explain the symmetry properties of DFTs which provide the basis for fast
algorithms.
b) Show that to any DIT FFT algorithm there corresponds to an inverse transform
algorithm that is DIF.
c) Obtain the DFT of the following sequence using Radix-2, DIF FFT flow graph.
Show all intermediate results.
x(n) = { 0, 1, 2, 0, 0, -2, -1, 0}.

4. a) State and prove the convolution property of z-transforms.

b) Determine the causal sequence whose z-transform is given by
z2
x( z ) =
( z − 3)( z − 4)
c) Determine the respuse y(n), n≥0 of the system descubed by the difference
equation.
y(n) – 3y(n-1) – 4y(n-2) = x(n) + 2x(n-1) to the input x(n) = 4n u(n).
