Formalism reflection Formalism is a style, a style that has no content, no backstory to explain what the object we are looking at is because the form tells us everything we need to know. Formalism gives more importance to how an object is presented than how it is explained like how the form may be a window and a guy outside or a painting of a window with the guy outside of it. Most formalist say that if the form is followed correctly then the content will be expressed well so in laymans terms if picture or sculpture looks good and not to abstract then the content or story will match what most people perceive it to be. If the content for a type of form is different the from remains the same example clown with balloons near children thats the form the content could be there is a birthday party, carnival or fair, or a sexual predator luring children with balloons whatever the content the form stays the same. Formalism is densely symbolic to mean a variety of things depending on race, culture, or religion. Let us take a cross or a star most Anglo Saxon Protestants might see the cross as a religious symbol while most Arabic or Hebrews might acknowledge the star as a holy symbol. Formalism says that spiritual or psychological truths are revealed through structure or form. By using the correct form and characteristics of formalism one will expose truth. Formalist use distortion and manipulation to uncover essential truth so by changing an image even more they try to find truth from it. Formalist twist words and images out of their natural shape and change or reorganize them to suit a propose basically they change words meaning to fit what they think the form means and thats ok because form is what the creator wanted it to be but other people sometimes do not agree with that. Formalist believe everything has a deeper meaning and make it their job to uncover what is basic or necessary or reveal some important belief about life. Formalism is something people in their everyday lives use like when meeting someone new you look at the form of there facial features, tall or short, and fat skinny you still have not heard there content but by just looking at the form you judge them by what their form tells you. In truth formalism is sometimes unfair and unjust like when a pretty girl goes to court and is accused for homicide most people will judge the outside form and assume innocent but then one day she comes in without her makeup and pretty clothes assuming your judging by form you would now accuse her guilty. Form is one of the most difficult and yet simplest things out there. Its explanation is the most difficult to understand yet when put into practice a child has more of a chance to understand then most matured or older people. If only form was and maybe is an idiotic idea it would make more sense describing it as idiotic so that people would be confused with a reason that reason being that it is idiotic. Yet formalism is something used to define a form without any knowledge of content in order to make the person think what the content is which seems confusing but people use it subconsciously while they know it or not. Formalism also gives an upper hand to con men while their form presents a confident trustworthy person their content is actually sinister where they just want one thing to feed their greed. Form to be used often should be no surprise once people know what form is. According to formalism it focuses on how something or someone is presented not what is being presented saying that the content does not matter and to most people content really does not matter just how they present themselves or image.
