HTP Ineffective Breathing

The document discusses effective breathing techniques to teach patients, including abdominal breathing and pursed lip breathing. Abdominal breathing uses the diaphragm for deep, full breaths with little effort. Pursed lip breathing helps prolong exhalation and prevent airway collapse by maintaining pressure as the lips are pursed and breath is slowly exhaled over 7 seconds. After nursing intervention teaching these techniques for 1-3 days, the goal is for patients to have an effective breathing pattern and feel relief in their breathing after 8-10 hours. Adequate hydration is also important to thin respiratory secretions.

HTP Ineffective Breathing Pattern Learning Objectives GOAL: -Discussion After 1-3 days of nursing intervention, the patient

will be able to have effective breathing pattern.. -Demonstrate to the patient performing specific airway clearance techniques such as forced expiratory breathing A commonly employed breathing exercise is abdominal (diaphragmatic) and pursed lip-breathing. Abdominal breathing permits deep full breaths with little effort. Pursed lipbreathing helps the client develop control over breathing. The pursed lips create a resistance to the air flowing out of the lungs; thereby prolonging e exhalation and preventing airway collapse by maintaining positive airway pressure. The client purses lips as if about to whistle and Jose Reyes Medical Center 5:00pm -Visual aid: printed copy of the topics -Time and effort of the group members -Money for the materials needed in buying and making visual aids -Improvised visual aids regarding proper breathing -Sample videos regarding proper breathing techniques QUESTION AND ANSWER Learning Content Methodology/Strategy Venue/Date/Time Resources Evaluation

breathes out slowly and gently, tightening the abdominal muscles to exhale more effectively. The client usually inhales to a count of 3 and exhales to a count of 7.

After 8-10 hours of nursing intervention, the patient will be able to display feeling of relief in her breathing.

-Teach and Encourage the patient to do proper breathing and coughing exercises Administering Salbutamol Nebulization 2.5 ml as needed/ as ordered. -Discuss the importance of increasing fluid intake Hydration Adequate hydration maintains the moisture of the respiratory mucous membranes. Normally respiratory tract infections are thin and therefore moved readily by ciliary action. However when the client is dehydrated or when the environment has a

low humidity, the respiratory secretions can become thick and tenacious. Fluid intake sould be as great as the client can tolerate.
