Main activities Expressions of giving, receiving, and declining for invitation Definition of Invitation Invitation is a way to invite someone or more to go to a place or to do something.

There are two types of invitations 1. Formal invitations Formal invitation is usually originate from Institutes, Companies and a kind of it. Normally formal invitation is written invitation. 2. Informal invitations Informal invitation is personal invitation given to a friend, family, etc. Informal invitation can be written invitation and verbal invitation.

The examples of expressions Giving invitations Would you like to come to my party on Saturday night? Would you like to go to caf rest tonight? I wonder if you could come on a picnic with us this weekend. We are going to the cinema. Would you like to join us? How about going fishing? Do you fancy seeing a basketball game? Will you join us for dinner?

Accepting invitations Sure Yes, Id like to very much Yes, Id love to Yes, please. That sounds fun / nice. Yes, with pleasure. Thanks. That would be great. Thank you Thank you for the invitation That would be wonderful Id be glad to Its very nice of you to invite me It sounds interesting

Refusing invitations Sorry, I cant. Ive got some work to do. Sorry, maybe some other time. Thank you, but Im afraid Ive got another appointment. Thank you, but Im afraid Im tied up. Thats very kind of you, but Im afraid I cant. Ive got to do some work Id rather not. If you dont mind. Ive got a headache.

Example of dialogue Joko : Do you have any plans for this weekend Ragil? : Well, Id like to invite you to my sisters birthday party.

Ragil : I think no, why Joko? Joko

Ragil : When is it held Joko? Joko : 5 pm this Saturday. Can you come? Ragil : Sure, Id be glad to come.

EXERCISES Exercise 1 Identifying the expressions of giving, accepting, and declining an invitation in the dialogue below by giving the underline! Devi : Im going to visit my friend in Rembangan on Sunday. Would you like to come? Vivin : Oh, Id love to. Ive never been to Rembangan. Devi : You will like Rembangan. Im going to catch the seven oclock bus. Is that ok? Vivin : Thats fine. Where will I meet you? Devi : Meet me at the bus station at six thirty.
