Jefferson Cereal Box Project

OBJECTIVE: Students will be working with a partner to re-designing a cereal box to explain the important events from Thomas Jeffersons Presidency. Begin by researching the important events from Jeffersons Presidency. Some events to include: Election of 1800 Marbury v. Madison Louisiana Purchase Lewis and Clark Expedition Chesapeake-Leopard Incident Embargo of 1807 Next, research interesting facts about Jefferson and his presidency and quotes that show his view on government. DESIGN: 1. Cover an empty cereal box with paper. 2. Design the front of the box so that it includes the name of the cereal, an appropriately-sized picture of Jefferson , and any other slogans, catch-phrases, or advertising gimmicks that might entice someone to purchase your cereal box. You may print pictures from the internet to use on your box or they can be original and handdrawn. 3. Design the back of the box with a 2-3 paragraph summary of Jeffersons Presidency. The summary should include all of the items that you researched and should be logically organized. Include a bibliography of your sources. Use www.easybib.com or a similar site for formatting. 4. Design a side panel so that it includes a list of important and interesting facts about Jefferson and his Presidency. 5. Design the other side panel so that it includes a timeline of the important events from Jeffersons Presidency. 6. Design the box top so that it includes a quote that explains Jeffersons view on government. Explain the context of the quote. 7. Design the box bottom so that it includes your name and your class period. Be sure that all of the work done on this project is done in your own words. Internalize the things that you have read in your research and express them using your own choice of words. Remember, if you even use someone elses ideas in your essay, you must cite your sources. SCORING: The project will be worth a test grade and will be graded using the following rubric:

Front 25 points (design, images, slogans) Sides 10 points each (accuracy of facts and placement of events on the timeline) Top 10 points (quote on government, context) Back 50 points (Details, accuracy, style) Creativity - 15 points (overall look, neatness) Bibliography 10 points (sources, formatting) 130 points total DUE DATE: This project is due on _____________________________________________
