This paper demonstrates how the fundamental concepts of a layered design found in the OSI model may be realised in the dataflow diagram type approach to application development. It describes a methodology using that coupling to design implementations of applications. The work serves to complement existing approaches to the conceptual modelling of distributed information systems.
