Creating Postscript Files - Illustrator CS

The first step to creating a postscript file is to load the correct driver and PPD. See sheet on this procedure.

Open the print dialog box, (File menu: print) General Tab - select Postscript File from the Printer drop down - select Adobe PDF from the PPD drop down - Size: Custom - Width and Height should be 1 inch larger than your document size, (e.g. 8.5x11 would be 9.5x12 ) - Print Layers: visible and Printable Layers - make sure you select Do Not Scale

Set-up Tab - Crop Artwork to: Crop Areas - Placement: Select the center button on the grid

Marks & Bleeds Tab - Under All Printers Marks check on the Trim Marks - Printers Mark Type: Roman - Trim Mark Weight: 0.25 pt - Offset: 0.1667 in - All Bleeds should be set at .125 in

Output Tab Mode: In RIP Separations Emulsion: Up (Right Reading) Image: Positive Printer Resolution: 175 lpi / 2400 dpi Check the Covert All Spot Colors to Process unless you are using Pantone ink or have a 5- or 6color job

Graphic Tab Flatness: select Automatic Download set at Complete Postscript set to LanguageLevel 3 Data Format on Binary select Compatible Gradient and Gradient Mesh Printing - Document Raster Effects Resoluion: should be 300 ppi

Color management Tab We ask that you do not use any type of color profiles added to your ps file. If you must choose a profile only use CMYK.

Advance Tab - Overprints: Simulate - Preset: Custom - select the Custom button Custom transparency and Flattener Options window will open. - Raster / Vector Balance set to 100 - Line Art and text Resolution: 2400 ppi - Gradient and Mesh Resolution: 300 ppi - Select Convert All Text to Outlines - Select Convert All Strokes to Outlines - Press OK

Now Save your postscript file You can now drop the postscript file into Acrobat Distiller. Using the Penton job options, you can now create a useable PDF file.
