What is Internet 2
Internet2 is a consortium of universities, technology

companies and government agencies working to develop and deploy advanced network applications and technologies in order to accelerate the creation of a next-generation Internet.
a group of 36 scientists met in Chicago to discuss ways

of developing and implementing a new Internet in 1996, which they named Internet2.

Mission & Goals


Internet2 Mission Develop and deploy advanced network applications and technologies, accelerating the creation of tomorrows Internet. Internet2 Goals Enable new generation of applications. Transfer technology and experience to the global production Internet.

Relationship of internet & internet2


Not a separate physical network.
Internet2 users can only contact other Internet2 users. Internet2 have not been open to the public.

BUT internet2 will not replace the Internet.
