Philippine History

Spanish oppression and the desire to replace Spanish rule led Andres Malong to start a revolt in Pangasinan in December 1660. He declared himself king and established a capital and defense forces. However, the revolt failed because he overextended his smaller army by sending troops to other regions, leaving his base weakly defended. In 1661, Pedro Gumapos continued Malong's revolt but it also failed due to lack of support from Ilocanos and weak leadership. Both revolts aimed to overthrow Spanish rule but were defeated.
