The five pillars of Islam are the basic practices of the Muslim faith: the Shahadah (faith in the oneness of God and acceptance of Muhammad as his prophet), Salah (prayer five times a day), Zakah (giving alms to the poor), Sawm (fasting during Ramadan), and Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca once in a lifetime if able). The first pillar, Shahadah, involves professing that "There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah" and signifies accepting Islam.
