Solid Edge ST3 Standard Parts installation to a server already running SQL 2008 SR2 This article is a sample

which describes the steps to install Solid Edge ST3 Standard parts, so that they are added to a server running SQL 2008 SR2: 1. Select a machine on the network with Solid Edge ST3 and install Standard Parts Administrator with the default settings (do not install the Master Part Files feature). 2. Run Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio on the server and step through the Configuring SQL Server section in StandardPartsInstallationGuide.doc. This document is delivered in the program folder (i.e. C:\Program Files\Solid Edge ST3\Program) on the machine used in step 1. 3. Create a folder on the server which will be shared with full permission for the user logged in step 1 and the personnel who will be using Standard Parts (i.e. \\hsvnt407\STDParts). 4. From the network machine running the Standard Parts Administrator, run Start->All Programs>Solid Edge ST3->Standard Parts->Configuration Wizard. Key in the shared drive (i.e. \\hsvnt407\STDParts) and click on the Defaults button. In step 2 of the configuration wizard, for the working database, click on Browse. Click on External network database option, key in the name of the server, key in the SQL user login created in step 2 and click OK.

5. In the Database Manager dialog, click on the New database button, and enter a new database name (i.e. STDParts). Then click OK. This action creates two databases on the server (i.e xsmp10se_STDParts and xCP_localGUIDdb95). Click OK to accept.

Click now the Save button.

7. On the server (i.e. hsvnt407), change the Default database for the SPUser login created earlier. While in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, expand Security->Logins. Right mouse click on SPUser and select Properties. Change the Default database to xsmp10se_STDParts and click OK. 8. Install the Machinery Library, and point to the same shared location on the server (i.e. \\hsvnt407\STDParts). To do this, make sure to click on the Change button before selecting the standards that you wish to install. After you click on Change, key in the server shared location, which for this example is \\hsvnt407\STDParts and click OK. Complete the selection of the standards and proceed with the wizard to begin the install. Likewise, install Piping Library if you are licensed to use this product. 9. From the network machine running the Standard Parts Administrator, run Start->All Programs>Solid Edge ST3->Standard Parts->Administrator. 10. Click on the Register parts in the database command. Select Add from existing multiple part files option. Click Next , verify that the path is pointing to the shared drive folder (i.e. \\hsvnt407\STDParts\Standard parts) 11. Click OK. This will take a significant amount of time, depending on the standards that you want to add to the database. 12. With everything setup, any user who wants to point to this external networked database would need to start Solid Edge ST3, open an assembly document, go into the Solid Edge Options dialog, click on File Locations, click on Standard Parts SAC file and click on Modify.

13. In the lower left corner, key in the server location as shown. Click on Open, select the SMAPINIFILE.sac for that server, click on Open and then click OK to accept.
